A Comprehensive Guide to Speedrunning RE:RUN.

Introduction

New to speedrunning? Or more importantly, RE:RUN? Sick of being trash at the game? Well, look no further, as this is The Comprehensive Guide to Speedrunning RE:RUN. Here you can find Movement Techniques, which features everything as basic as strafing to something as complicated as the glitched double jump, Standard Routes, which showcases various routes for the levels in the Standard Category, and Glitchless Routes, which showcases various routes for the levels in the Glitchless Category.

Movement Techniques

Speed-strafing

Speed-strafing is a way to increase speed by holding both the forward key (default is [w]) and either one of the strafe keys (default is [a] for left, and [d] for right). You can also gain a little extra speed by moving your mouse in the direction of your strafe. https://i.imgur.com/karLti7.png Example for Speed-strafing Doing this can increase your speed to [24.3m/s], an increase from the average walking speed of [22.8m/s].

Strafe-jumping

Strafe-jumping is moving in all three axes at once, and can increase your speed to [33.1m/s - 33.3m/s], and is achieved by holding the forward key, either one of the strafe keys, and also pressing the jump key (default is [space]. https://i.imgur.com/Q5PgWVk.png Example for Strafe-jumping

Crouch-jumping

Crouch-jumping is the act of jumping and then immediately crouching afterwards. This can be applied to the normal walk, or strafe-jumping.

Doing this while normally walking and jumping can increase your speed from [23.6m/s] to [34.3m/s]. Example. Doing this while strafe-jumping can increase your speed from [32.2m/s] to [~40.5m/s]. Example.

Sword Boosting

Sword boosting is when you boost yourself upwards by throwing your sword downwards at your feet. This has to be done at precise times, as it would not work otherwise. This technique is now obsolete, as it is a glitch, and there are better glitches for making higher jumps. Example. Credit to Snazz for the clip.

Damage Boosting

You get a slight boost whenever hit by an enemy, whether it be sword or arrow, and you can use this to boost yourself upwards or forwards. Example.

This can be utilised in standard runs, and maybe in glitchless runs in the future, as this is considered a glitch as of 22/8.

Glitched Double Jump

And finally, the best-est of the glitches, the glitched double jump, more informally known as GDJ. This glitch is a very hard one at the start, but with practice brings consistency and perfection. It allows you to double jump without the power-up.

This can be performed by crouching and jump at a precise moment. This is not like a normal crouch jump, this is where you crouch moments before the jump. Think of it as a rhythm, a drum beat, from where you crouch, and jump, and jump again.

Standard Routes

This is a list of the standard routes. Standard routes feature any glitch and is any%.

Level 0

Noob's current WR clip This level is pretty simple, all it takes is grabbing the sword power up https://i.imgur.com/Uj3SY2y.png to breaking the wood https://i.imgur.com/j4Zq877.png then to do a glitched double jump, and reach the blue square.

Level 1

iPad's current WR clip This run is extremely simple, by just doing a glitched double jump up both of these ledges, and then to reach the blue square.

Level 2

Noob's current WR clip This is another super simple but not easy to do run, all of the levels are like this in the standard category. All you do is do a glitched double jump (or a normal jump is fine) to a ledge https://i.imgur.com/vyscoXJ.png and another from that ledge to reach the blue square.

Another way to do this is by glitched double jumping up to the ledge that has the button, pressing it, and using the movement techniques to get to the blue square.

Level 3

Noob's current WR clip

Again, another really short level. Which involves grabbing the sword just by the ledge at the start of the level, and performing a glitched double jump to get up the wall, and breaking the wood and jumping over the gap to get to the blue square.

Level 4

Noob's current WR clip A super simple level, involving just jumping round the ledge, and performing a crouch jump on the ledge to make a fast dash to the blue square.

Level 5

Noob's current WR clip This level features a clip. You can do this by crouching at the top edge of the door, which can get you through the door. This can only be performed on this level, as this level is the only one that has this type of door fitting.

After you made it through the door gap, you perform a glitched double jump to make it to the platform, and then the blue square. Plain, simple, sometimes easy.

Level 6

Noob's current WR clip This level doesn't have any skips or bypasses or anything, really. You kill all the enemies. The first blue guy can be flung off the side of the edge by hitting him in his legs and rapidly crouching to push him off.

Then the other enemies come up, and you take them out one by one by doing a sword hit until you reach the last one, which you throw the sword to, and jump off the other side. The more speed you have, the higher your damage from the sword, so speed is key.

Level 7

Noob's current WR clip This is a hard level, so it'd require some practice. The first thing you do, is run up and grab the sword power up, as you can't get anywhere useful without it. Afterwards, you run up the first step, and perform a glitched double jump to make it to the main bridge, and break the wood.

There's a handy trick where you can hit both of them enemies with one sword swing, and if you do this a couple of times, trying not to die, and kill the enemies, a wall should lower revealing a rewind power up. This unlocks the door right in front of you. If you go through this and with your speed, hit the swordsman twice, you can deal enough damage so that he dies to the arrow the archerman sends. You can then throw your sword at the archerman and easily be above the blue square when it raises.

Level 8

Noob's current WR clip Another super short level, but it doesn't mean it's easy. You can beat this level by doing a glitched double jump off the left ledge, aiming for the platform after the wood planks, and then just doing a crouch jump to the blue square platform.

Another way to do this is the glitchless route, which is listed after.

Level 9

There are two different ways to properly do this level.

Noob's current WR clip This is the fastest method, where you do a glitched double jump (or a normal jump) up to the first platform, and do another to where the pillar is, holding up the stone hut where the blue square is. There is a clipping bug where you can clip to the top of the pillar by crouching on the edge of wall, and once you're on the pillar, just jump.

Example of the second route, by Silvia You can do this a number of ways, but the fastest is doing a glitched double jump up the platform where the spikes are, and jumping to the buttons. Then you run past the big blue swordsman, and perform another glitched double jump to make it to the bridge to the hut that has the blue square.

Level 10

Noob's current WR clip This level is REALLY short, and quite simple. All you do is a glitched double jump through the red ring and perform speed-strafes to make it to the blue square quickly.

There is a 1 second slower route, but it is glitchless, and listed later.

Glitchless Routes

Level 0

Cambammm_'s current WR clip Like the Standard run, you can completely skip the double jump, and only grab the sword. Break the wood, and crouch a lot to gain extra speed, and press the button, jump, and try to make the platform. The second platform with the blue square is easier to get to, and is easily done with one jump.

You don't have to do this, though, you could just grab the double jump as well, for a 2 second delay, but it is easier overall.

Level 1

Silvia's current WR clip This weird run can be done by jumping over to the platform where the blue archer is, and crouch into his legs, and he actually shoots himself. Then you just go collect the double jump power up, and go up the two platforms and go to the blue square.

Level 2

Noob's current WR clip This is quite a hard level to do fast. In order to perform this weird jump, you need to get on the platform. This can be done by simply crouching at the top of the wall, and it should boost you up. Then you set yourself up for a big jump by prejumping, and landing on the edge, and performing a crouch jump all the way to the button.

Level 3

Silvia's current WR clip This fast route can be done by grabbing the sword, and instead of throwing it from the starting platform, you run up and throw it, collect it, grab the double jump power up, break the wood, and run to the blue square. Plain, simple, and easy. The jump to the blue guy might be hard, but with practice of the Movement Techniques, you should be fine.

Level 4

Noob's current WR clip A super simple level, involving just jumping round the ledge, and performing a crouch jump on the ledge to make a fast dash to the blue square.

Level 5

Noob's current WR clip Now this one is quite difficult. The first bit isn't, but the second is. Firstly you need to jump around the platform, which is quite easy, just use your movement techniques, and/or skill to make it there. Then, you need to do the same thing needed on level 2, in order to make it to the blue square.

The second route is kind of similar, but instead of going straight to the blue square, you kill the blue man, grab the double jump power up, and go to the blue square. This is considerably easier, but around 5 seconds slower.

Level 7

Noob's current WR clip This is VERY similar to the standard variation, but instead of performing a glitched double jump up to the bridge, you just jump a step higher, and then crouch jump while speed-strafing on the ledge to make it as far as you can down the bridge, and then just follow the rest of the guide on the standard category.

Level 8

Noob's current WR clip Almost identical to the standard variation, but instead of doing a glitched double jump, you use your knowledge of the movement techniques to jump through the red ring, and all the way to the blue square.

Level 9

Silvia's current WR clip This can be done by performing a crouch jump while speed-strafing on the ledge to get to the first platform quickly, then jump up while crouching at the top to not bump into the wall of the second platform. Simply jump over the the spiked platform to the button, press it (you could stand on the button, and it is faster), and throw the sword at the blue man, so that he falls off, so you don't have to do any damage to him. Simply grab the double jump power up, and then double jump from the first platform to the second, then to the bridge.

Level 10

iPad's current WR clip This level is ridiculously easy. All you have to do is get on the first ledge by crouching at the top, and then from that, perform a crouch jump while speed-strafing on the ledge, so that you make it to the platform, and continue strafing in order to keep your speed, and break the wood. Simple.

Conclusion

Well, that concludes The Comprehensive Guide to Speedrunning RE:RUN. I hope you enjoyed this, and learned something about speedrunning RE:RUN.

May you have great speedruns, and this took a while to make. Get those world records!

Big thanks to iPad, Silvia, Noob, Snazz, and Cambammm_ for the clips!
