About the bio2cs.exe (Cutscene skip mod)

So I guess most of you have now heard about the new Cutscene skip mod for SourceNext 1.0. It's just a patcher you download to modify/patch your regular bio2.exe file so you will get the ability to speed up the cutscenes in the game with the map key. IGT speeds up with it so there doesnt seem to be any difference in time. So far I've only done 1 test at the Kendo cutscene.

Last couple of days I've been running the game with splits for every single door in the game to find out how low the SoB can go (currently at 48:45.02 for Leon A). So I will run the game tomorrow with the mod and see if I can get any new gold splits with it.

There are a few places in the game where the testings would be perfect to do. Take the Anette shot for example. You can have the first camera angle in the cutscene to start the timer and then the last camera angle to stop the timer. Then do 1 test without the mod and one with the mod.

If it turns out that the mod doesnt make any difference to IGT then I cant see any valid reason to reject it.

I did some repeated testing on the Meet Marvin cutscene (Claire A). Timing was done from first camera change to next room. I also threw in "25 FPS" test, since this game does rely on voice clips for timing.

I repeated each test three times, and got two different numbers for each!

Few notes: For cutscene skip, I waited until the camera change to skip. 25 FPS is when you don't have running media in the background, which makes the frame rate like PAL. I decided to do this test since this game does rely on voice clips for timing.

No cutscene skip (no mod): 1:26.10, 1:26.13 Cutscene skip (mod): 1:25.13, 1:25.16 25 FPS (no mod): 1:25.80, 1:25.76

VA Cancel (pausing, 1 test): 1:24.56 No Sound (regedit, 1 test): 1:24.30 25 FPS No Sound (regedit, 1 test): 1:24.30

So, compared to not skipping, Cutscene skip was faster by about 1 second (~30 frames). 25 FPS is faster by 0.3 seconds (~10 frames). Pause cancel is faster by 1.53 seconds (~46 frames). No Sound is faster by 1.8 seconds (~54 frames), probably same effect as VA cancel.

It seems cutscenes can give or take a frame, and is definitely subject to change depending on your sound card.

This makes me want to analyse how pausing the game affects IGT as well.

EDIT: I did a test with constantly pausing to cancel voice clips, and got 1:24.56, which is even faster than cutscene skip.

EDIT(2): No cutscene skip with mod was indifferent to no mod.

EDIT(3): On 25 FPS mode, cutscene skip produced the same result (1:25.16)

EDIT(4): No sound regedit produced 1:24.30.

Did a few cutscenes today:

Cutscene - No Patch - Patch - Difference

Marvin: 1:25.33 - 1:24.50 = 0.83s Anette Shot: 2:00.46 - 1:54.06 = 6.40s Anette Pipe: 1:23.50 - 1:22.61 = 0.89s Ada Dies: 1:29.80 - 1:29.40 = 0.40s

Difference is pretty big.

Out of the question, if people wanna run the game faster with a 3rd party mod then they are welcome to do so. They wont however be able to use this board to post their runs. RE2 doesnt need anymore categories for free WRs.

It "improves" the IGT and it's third party. I think this won't make it to the leader boards.

quote "improves" because you can achieve the same effect and even better by cancelling the voice clips by pausing.

If this mod didn't save time then maybe it would be considered as a category, but in it's current state..all it's doing is gaining time from nowhere. it isn't much time save and it would still be hard to achieve anything close to the current WR'S while using it. Also it's just opening the doors to an unnecessary category or "free wr" If it is possible to tweak the cut scene skip mod to gain no time that'd be nice.

Supergamer57 "you can achieve the same effect and even better by cancelling the voice clips by pausing"

Personally never noticed a difference by doing this, but if this is true we need to nip this in the bud and not allow pausing during a run.

^ If we were to add a rule for this obviously no runs would be affected prior to the new rule.

not working for me. its just load the game normally and when it comes to kendo nothing hapens.patched the file correctly. SN1,0 version

i know, but can you help me with it? run with admin rights and all that stuff. dunno whats the problem. thanks in advance
