100% Route/Strategies

The 100% route uses a few glitches listed in the Key Glitches and Tricks guide, so if you have any questions regarding those, please reference that guide. If you still have questions, feel free to ask me any questions.

This category is fairly new, but is now easily do-able with the Power-Up Glitch discovery. Anybody who has ever played this game casual knows how much grinding goes into the game. Since glitches are allowed, the amount of grinding is non-existent. 

Keep in mind, that there are a few rules and key changes when compared to the much shorter Any% run.
1. 100% visits all dungeons, whereas Any% visits only 9 (Roron, the 4 Dams, Gaira, Skure, Crevice, and Noah), and 7 of those don't have encounters. In 100%, there are encounters in every dungeon, and lots of them.
2. 100% gets all characters, whereas Any% adds only Rudo and Amy.
3. 100% fights all bosses, whereas Any% only fights Dark Force and Mother Brain.
4. 100% forbids the acquisition of Key Items through glitching (those are listed below), whereas Any% gets the Key Tube, the Key Cards, and the Nei Items early for a quicker run.

There are a couple similarities between the runs, however, but not many.

So why run 100% over Any%? I find that 100% showcases the game a lot better than Any%. It is also cool to have a bit more flexibility in which characters you wish to use. The game runs about 3-4x longer than Any% as well. Also, since there is no acquisition of Key items through glitching, there are less possibilities of your runs ending because of mis-counting when trying to get the right item.

So why run Any% over 100%? Nei power! Seriously, for those who played the game and wished that Nei could stick with you through the entire game, Any% is the way to go (the category for a while was even called Nei%). It is a much shorter run (under an hour now), and is much less encounter heavy.

The RPGClassics shrine has a good listing of maps that are great when you're first learning this run. It also contains information on every enemy and item in the game. There is also a walkthrough with pictures to help you find your way, though keep in mind that the walkthrough was developed for casual play (though it is handy for getting through Ikuto). The Gamefaqs guide provides similar information all on one file, though no maps are given. For a 100% run, generally maps are all that is really needed as you don't need item information for item glitching, but you're free to customize your run as you see fit.

-THE ROUTE-
1. When naming Rolf, name him whatever you want, but for safety sake, make sure you put at least 1 S in his name.
2. Once you have control, dump Rolf's inventory, go to the Storage Room, and activate the Inventory Glitch by going to Slot 56 (which will store a Moon Dew).
3. Use the Inventory Glitch and pull out the Crystal Chest from Rolf's Slot 21, 22, 23, or 24 (whichever you have the letter S in). Give this to Nei.
4. Buy Nei 2 Steel Bars and equip them
5. Sell Rolf's Slot 17 (which is a Laconian Helmet, sells for 14500 meseta.
6. Buy 2 Telepipes and 4 Escapipes for Nei.
7. Using the Power-Up glitch, start buying Antidotes for Rolf. General rule of thumb is once the name is completely covered by black squares, buy 29 more Antidotes to get a complete Power-Up of the next character, though sometimes this can be different. If you find out you bought fewer than needed to at least Power Up the Defense, buy a more until you do. If you buy too many and it shows that you have Antidotes equipped into your weapon slots, re-equip any weapons. Trust me, you don't want to be fighting with Antidotes.
8. Using the Equipment Glitch, equip the Crystal Chest onto Rolf.
9: IMPORTANT! Re-order your party so that Nei is in front. 
10. Go to Arima and walk out.
11. At this point in the game, having Nei use the Crystal Chest will be the fastest way to get through battles. There are some battles you can run from, and some you can't (Double Froggy). Use your best judgment when attempting to run (the more enemies there are and the longer their attack animation, the more likely that it will be quicker/safer to just fight it out).
12. Go to Shure and collect the Small Key and Letter. Escapipe out (3 left).
13. Re-enter Shure and collect both Dynamites. Escapipe out (2 left).
14. Go to Nido and get Teim. Escapipe out (1 left). Telepipe (1 left).
15. Go to the North Bridge and go through the cutscene.
16. Go to Oputa. Buy Nei a Ceramic Bar (equip) and a Ceramic Knife.
17. IMPORTANT: Make sure you get the MUSIK technique for ROLF. If he is dead, revive him.
17a. (Optional but can save time in the long run. Go back to Paseo and get Rudo & Amy, refer to steps 20 and 22 for this (though disregard Hugh for now).
18. Go to the Biosystems Lab. Get the Dynamite and then the Recorder. Escapipe (0 Left) and Telepipe (0 Left). At this point in the game, use your best judgment whether you want Nei to use the Crystal Cape or attack. It may take 2-3 rounds with the Crystal Cape compared to 1-2 with normal attacks.
19. If Rolf is dead, revive him. Go to the Central Tower and go through the cutscenes to get the Key Tube.
20. Return Home and recruit Rudo, Amy, and Hugh.
NOTE: Though you can use ANY character you wish in 100%, it is recommended right now to use Amy, Anna, and Shir. This will allow you to have the most inventory space and Anna will have the easiest time killing mobs with her slashers. If you wish to use any of the other characters, you may have to use Equipment Glitching more often in order to make them useful. Regardless, you should have 3 characters by the time you enter the Dams who can deal damage (Rolf doesn't count). For the sake of this guide, we will be using Amy, Anna, and Shir. If you wish to use Rudo, you have to glitch Nei's inventory. Glitch Amy for Hugh's and glitch Anna for Kain if you so wish.
21. Add Rudo and Hugh to the party.
22. Activate the Inventory Glitch on Rudo and Hugh (Slot 17 for both).
OPTIONAL: Instead of using Slot 17 for Rudo, if you wish to try Hidapipes, you can pull from Rudo's Slot 50 to store one. Just pick it up afterwards.
23. Buy Nei 2 Escapipes and 1 Telepipe.
24. Buy Rudo and Hugh Antidotes until you've reached 29 Antidotes after their names disappear. (This can be easier if you re-order them so that Rudo and Hugh are first in line).
25. Return home and pick up Amy (make sure that Nei and Amy are in front).
26. Equip Amy with a Ceramic Knife (leave her Scalpel equipped).
27. Teleport to Oputa and go to the West Bridge.
28. Use the Key Tube to open the door.
29. Go to Zema and exit.
30. Go to Roron. Talk to the Motavian who gives you the Jet Scooter. Escapipe out (1 Left).
31. Board the Jet Scooter. Go to Piata and exit (the reason this is done now is because the encounter rate is a bit lower during this time of the game. It is worse after Neifirst is defeated. However, you can skip this step until you need to go to the Control Tower, but you will have to Teleport to Kueri, sail west, and walk. A Hidapipe may help at that point).
32. Go to Uzo and get the Maruera Leaf. Escapipe out (0 left).
33. Sail East and go to Kueri. Buy a Laser Slasher for Amy (to give to Anna in a bit). 
34. Trade the Maruera Leaf for Maruera Gum. Exit town and Telepipe (0 left).
35. Return home to pick up Anna. Add her and Amy to the party (make sure Anna, Nei, and Amy are in front).
36. Give the Laser Slasher to Anna and duplicate it. Equip both.
37. Go to Climatrol (hopefully, Anna will have first attack in every battle, so she should be able for the most part to wreck anything).
38. Before talking to NeiFirst, equip Nei with 2 Ceramic Bars (you can either duplicate them or use the Equipment glitch).
39. Fight and defeat NeiFirst. Nei should have no trouble doing this. After the cutscene plays out, Rolf will be revived if he is dead.
40. Pick up the Moon Dew from the Storage Room and give it to Amy.
41. Buy a Telepipe and Escapipe.
42. Teleport to Piata and go to the Control Tower.
43. Go to the Piano and use the MUSIK technique (if Rolf is dead, Duplicate the Moon Dew and revive him). Grab the 4 Key Cards. Escapipe out (0 left), Exit Town, and Telepipe (0 left).
44. Recruit Kain and Shir. Add Kain to the party.
45. Activate the Inventory Glitch on Kain (Slot 17).
46. Use the Power-Up Glitch by buying Kain Antidotes until you buy 29 after his name disappears.
47. Return home and pick up Amy, Anna, and Shir (the last time you will need to return home). Put Amy, Anna, and Shir in front. Duplicate the Ceramic Knife and equip it onto Shir (she should have a Dagger and Ceramic Knife).
48. Buy 4 Telepipes and 9 Escapipes. (If Shir runs away, go back home to get her. Bonus points if she gets a Hidapipe).
49. Go to the Green Dam. Use the Green Card to open the door and the console. Escapipe out (8 left).
50. Go to the Yellow Dam. Use the Yellow Card to open the door and the console. Escapipe out (7 left).
51. Go to the Blue Dam. Use the Blue Card to open the door and the console. Escapipe out (6 left).
52. Go to the Red Dam. Use the Red Card to open the door.
53. <deleted step, as FireSlasher and FireStaff are no longer needed)
54. Open the console to activate the Army Eyes. Switch everybody to defense and fight. This is quicker than trying to run, plus it reduces the chances of a successful run to 0% (whereas before it was still a slight possibility).
55. Go to the console at the end (you can interact with it from the upper part). You can only run from fights.
56. Make sure your order is still with Rolf at the end of the line.
57. Fly to Dezo.
58. Go through Skure and make your way to Crevice and the Esper Mansion.
59. If Rolf is dead, revive him. Wake up Lutz.
60. Grab the Prism and exit the Esper Mansion.
NOTE: Naval, Guaron, and Ikuto can be done in any order and shouldn't make any difference in time. Menobe is done last because it is right on the path to Crevice.
61. Use a Telepipe (3 left). This will return you to Skure.
62. Go to Naval. Grab the Nei Shield and Nei Emel. Escapipe out (5 left). Telepipe (2 left) to Skure.
63. Go to Guaron. Grab the Nei Cape and Nei Armor. Escapipe out (4 left). Telepipe to Skure (1 left).
64. Go to Ikuto. Grab the Nei Shot and Escapipe out (3 left).
65. Re-enter Ikuto. Grab the Nei Slasher (no need to equip) and Escapipe out (2 left). Telepipe to Skure (0 left).
66. Go to Menobe. Grab the Nei Crown and Escapipe out (1 left).
67. Re-enter Menobe. Grab the Neimet and Escapipe out (0 left).
68. Return to the Esper Mansion. Talk to Lutz and grab the Nei Sword. (there's an audio glitch here. Pausing the game a time or two then talking to Lutz after you get the Nei Sword will fix it, though will cost a few seconds time).
69. Talk to Lutz to go to Noah.
70. Before opening the chest with Dark Force, revive Rolf if needed and use the Equipment Glitch to give him the Nei Sword.
71. Fight Dark Force. This fight shouldn't last too long, 3-4 rounds, maybe more if you get unlucky with the curses. Having Rolf alive gives Dark Force an extra target for his curses, allowing your 3 damage dealers to deal more damage. If Rolf has the Nei Sword, he may still get an attack in, dealing over 100 damage per attack. You shouldn't have to worry about everybody getting Major curses, but if that happens, you should be able to just tank the damage until a random Nei Sword proc. All things considered this fight is quite safe compared to the old route or playing casually or glitchless.
72. Fight Mother Brain (options Yes then No to start the fight). Press C to win. Don't worry if Rolf dies. Should take 3-5 rounds if everybody hits.
73. Talk to the Earthlings. Time stops when the final cutscenes begin.

Any% - Quick Equipment/Inventory Glitch guide

CURRENT STRAT as of 7/28/17

This is basically a quick walkthrough out of what equipment combinations you need to pull out certain Key Items and in what slot. This requires knowledge of activating the Inventory Glitch. It also requires that you name either Rolf or Rudo to be named ABWX (although it is quicker to name Rolf ABWX as time doesn't start while in the name screen at the beginning. This guide will continue assuming you named Rolf ABWX, otherwise during Steps 15-18, use Rudo's inventory instead).

You need the following items to finish the game:

1. In Rolf's Glitched inventory, go to the 2nd Page and press Up twice (cursor should be above NEXT). Store this item (Key Tube). Come back for it later.

Exit Storage Room:
2. Rolf's Slot 54 for Yellow Card. Give to Nei.
3. Rolf's Slot 56 for Moon Dew. Give to Nei.
4. Discard Nei's Carbon Vest
5. Rofl's Slot 56 for Teim. Duplicate to be able to activate Teim Glitch later. Give both to Nei.
6. Unequip Nei's Ribbon and Sandals.
7. Rolf's Slot 56 for Nei Shot. Give to Nei.
8. Equip Nei's Ribbon and Sandals again.
9. Rolf's Slot 56 for Blue Card. Give to Nei.
10. Toss Nei's Ribbon.
11. Rolf's Slot 56 for Visiphone. Give to Nei.
12. Buy 1 Steel Bar, Sell Rolf's Slot 17, buy 1 Telepipe. Give to Nei. Toss her Ribbon and Sandals if you'd like.

Visit Arima, North Bridge, Oputa (Losing both Teim's during this process with the Teim Glitch). Return to Paseo for Rudo and Amy.

Second visit to Storage Room:
11. In Rudo's Glitch Inventory, store Slot 48 for the Red Card. Grab both Key Tube and Red Card and give to Nei.

Teleport to Oputa:
12. Buy Fiber Gear for Amy, 1 Ceramic Bar for Nei, and 2 Ceramic Knives for Amy.
13. Equip Nei with Steel and Ceramic Bar.
14. (optional) If you want a Hidapipe, go to Rudo's Slot 50 for one and give it to Amy. 
15. Rolf's Slot 21 for Nei Helmet. Give to Nei.
16. Rolf's Slot 22 for Nei Crown. Give to Amy.
17. Rolf's Slot 23 for Nei Armor. Give to Nei.
18. Rolf's Slot 24 for Nei Cape. Give to Amy.
19. Equip Amy with Fiber Gear, 2 Ceramic Knives, Nei Cape.
20. Rudo's Slot 56 for Nei Slasher. Give to Amy.
21. Equip Amy with Carbon Suit and Nei Crown.
22. Rudo's Slot 56 for Nei Shield. Give to Amy.
23. Equip Amy with Fiber Gear, Toss Shoes.
24. Rudo's Slot 46 for Green Card. Nei.
25. Rudo's Slot 56 for Nei Emel. Give to Amy.
26. At this time, buy 2 Telepipe and 4 Escapipes. Escapipes will be used after Roron, Red, Green, and Yellow Dams. Telepipe will be used after Red Dam and in Skure.
27. At this time, start buying Antidotes for Rudo and Rolf. When doing so, you will soon start to see the character's name being replaced by a black box, one letter at a time. After the 4th black box appears, buy around 29-32 more Antidotes. This should be enough to set the stats of both Nei and Amy to be really high.
28. Go through the remainder of the route: Roron, Red Dam, Green Dam, Yellow Dam, Blue Dam, Gaira, Skure, Crevice, Esper Mansion, Noah. 

NOTES: After returning to Paseo from Gaira and before going to Dezo, put Nei and Amy in front of the party. You also don't need Rudo in your party at that point. If Rolf is in front by the time you get the Nei Sword, you will lose the item and softlock the game. Also, Rolf needs to be alive to get into Esper Mansion, so if he dies along the way, just use the Moon Dew before going in.

Damage Formulas

No matter what variation of the speedrun you wish to play, or even if you're playing casually, having the information on how damage calculation works in this game can save you time and effort when creating your route.

(Credit goes to a forum post I found on rpgdl.com by a member named Meeplelard, who gives credit to someone named Twilkitri).

-Damage of Bladed weapons-

The basic formula goes something like this:

((Character's Natural Attack + Variance) ¤ (Weapon's Attack + 2)) / 100 + (Enemy Defense ¤ 5)

or shorthand:

(NA + V)(WA + 2) / (5D + 100)

The Variance in the formula was calculated to be any number between 84 and 115.

A Weapon's Attack for these weapons is essentially the weapon's given attack stat EXCEPT for swords. The Weapon Attack for Swords is essentially 50% of what the game says it is (the game considers each hand having the weapon in it so it doubles it, which explains why all swords have an even number attack. This makes it interesting to note that two Laconian Maces for Hugh/Kain would do more damage than Rolf's Nei Sword if you didn't count in anybody's natural attack.

-Damage of Guns-

The formula here works differently as guns ignore defense altogether. 

Gun Power x Variance

The variance is basically between .92 and 1.07, so each time damage is dealt, it is dealing between 92% and 107% of the gun's power.

HOWEVER, the attack power of guns is NOT what the game says it is, not even really close. There isn't a certain percentage point that is universal between all guns, so instead I'll just give the list that was provided in the post.

Gun Power:
Silent Shot - 4 (assumed, wasn't given in the chart)

Spread guns (Shotgun, Vulcan, Pulse Vulcan) work off the same formula but attack multiple times depending on the gun (Shotgun is x2, Vulcan is x3, Pulse Vulcan is x4). So the above calculation is done up to that many times and can attack that many enemies in one attack, or stack the damage onto one enemy. This sometimes can be random, but it generally favors spreading among groups (for instance, if the Vulcan attacks a group with 2 enemies, the damage will hit one of them twice and the other once). Also keep in mind that each time the spread gun calculates the attack, there is always a chance that each calculation will still produce a miss.

-Attack Accuracy-

It was discovered that Dexterity does play a role in if an attack hits or misses, as does agility. Basically, it relies on certain conditions.

AD = Attacker's Dexterity
EA = Enemy's Agility

If: AD < 0.5¤EA  Then Accuracy = 80%
If: 0.51¤EA < AD < 1.5¤EA  Then Accuracy = 90%
If: AD >= 1.5¤EA  Then Accuracy = 100%

-Technique Power and Accuracy-

The formula is pretty much the same for Guns as stats like Mental do nothing to alter the damage (making techniques completely useless in a speedrun unless you are playing a Glitchless run).

-Damage Overflow-

This is where things get hectic. The developers never intended for anyone to discover these glitches that we use in a speedrun to super power our characters (either by the old Power Leveling method or the new Antidote Glitch method), so there was never any need to worry.

It is mostly confirmed that damage rolls over after it reaches 255 back down to 0. This is important to note in a speedrun setting when using the Antidote glitch as to which weapons will deal which amount of damage to enemies based on their defense. That being said, when you first start the Antidote glitch, your character's Natural Attack will be set at 5140. Then, whatever levels your character gains after their first victory will add a random number to that. At Maximum, your characters should not have any Natural Damage over 5200. 

To find the damage in this case, you would plug the numbers into the equation like normal then divide your final result by 255. You are then looking for what the REMAINDER is, which will be your damage (or at least close to it).

So, let's take the initial battle for example after setting up the Antidote Glitch. You have Nei equipped with a Steel Bar (7 ATK) and a Ceramic Bar (27 ATK) and are going up against a Fire Ant (4 Def). Say both rolls give a variance of 100. With a Steel Bar, Nei would do 393 Damage, but after rollover it ends up being 138 Damage. Now with a Ceramic Claw, the damage she deals would be 1266, or after the numerous rollovers would end up around 246 Damage. Either way, for that enemy, it is a kill.

Now for the sake of argument, let's find something with a bit more defense. An Owl Talon has 79 Defense. Using the same math and weapons, a Steel Bar would deal 119 damage (with no rollover) whereas a Ceramic Bar would deal 384 (or 129 after rollover). In that case it would take 2 hits to still take out that enemy (145 HP).

One more example, but this time let's add in a Laser Bar for Nei (38 Attack). Mother Brain has 120 Defense. After adding everything into the equation, the Steel Bar would deal 67 Damage, the Ceramic Bar would deal 217 Damage, and the Laser Bar would deal 299 Damage, which after rollover gets dropped down to 44. So in this case, even though the Laser Claw is the strongest weapon Nei can use, because of the rollover it does LESS damage to Mother Brain than the Steel Bar!

-Conclusion-
With that said, there is still a lot of research that can be done on damage. Currently, the overflow can cause a bit of slowdown in the way battles are played out, but still speed up the game immensely.

OTHER STUFF, NOT REALLY THAT IMPORTANT
-Status Effects-
Sleep: Essentially death, as it can cause a game over if every character is put to sleep.
Paralysis: Keeps the affected from acting for up to 3 turns. Can be reapplied.
Insanity: Basically, think of it as Blindness which reduces physical hit chance by 50%
Silence: Not really a silence, but think of it as a Blind effect which only affects Techniques' hit chance by 50%

Escape Rate

Just some handy information I dug up. Each enemy has an escape rate which is compared against a random number that is generated when you attempt to run (between 0-255). If the number rolled is larger than the enemy's escape rate, you are blocked. Also, in the case of different enemy types, the enemy with the lower escape rate is what the random number is compared against.

Knowing these rates can be handy when trying to improve your times, that way you can know which enemies you will have to fight in order to save time, or which ones you can run away from with near certainty.

For the sake of simplicity, here is a list and the odds of being able to run from each enemy. Bosses are not included.

Glitched route(s) notes

these are my notes for the glitched routes of PSII (slightly improved from what I used when running).
This is not an exhaustive guide, just notes for some of the more difficult things to remember meant to be easily read while running.

I'd suggest you familiarize yourself with the glitches before you try and use these notes.
The notation in ()s is from the last slot of your inventory, for instance (40 D) means go down 40 times from the last slot of your inventory.

As you can probably see the credits warp is incredibly simple, and I would suggest anyone who wanted to pick up running glitched categories start with that.

Weapon Damage Chart & Weapon Choices

Using the damage formula and calculating under the Antidote Glitch with some variance in natural attack gains, I have compiled a chart which anyone can view and see what weapons do what amount of damage.

Cells in Red mean the weapon can one-shot the enemy.
Cells in Yellow mean the weapon can two-shot the enemy.
Cells in Blue mean that the weapon cannot at least two-shot the enemy.

As I have posted in the forum, it is my educated deduction that the following weapons are best used in the speedruns based on what category is being run.

Any% (aka Neimy%)
Nei: 1 Steel Bar, 1 Ceramic Bar (or 2 Steel Bars for DF, 2 Ceramic Bars for MB)
Amy: 2 Ceramic Knives

100%
Nei: 2 Steel Bars up to Kueri, then 2 Laser Bars through Neifirst.
Anna: 1 Slasher, 1 Laser Slasher
Everyone Else: 1 Ceramic Knife, 1 Laser Knife (though on way, Scalpels and Daggers can also be added).
