I've been running Cape Thor lately. In the description of the lap WR Gnobel says he "flew over the lake and skipped the U-turn"...has anyone ever done this? Or is there a video that shows the skip?
I tried for some time but never got over the lake. I don't even know where to do it. There seems to be a point at the end of the first section, like a small hill at the wall and just before the left turn, that you could use to jump, but it never worked.
Anyone any idea?

it works. I played this game about 20+ years ago as kid and after this comment, I insta remember me to accidentally got this one time as well. But cannot remember, how this happens.
I didn't think it was possible, for me the only cut was the U-turn, when I see the description of Gnobel I didn't understand what does he mean about the lake :/
I dont think, this "cut" can be hunted, like this bug at the end of moosejaw falls. its just random AND you have to land on the road on the other side so nearly impossible
I figured out something like a strat (after being inspired by a lake skip that Firen achieved). I did a video for everyone who wants to try it:
After many fails (snow bridge above all) I managed to beat Gnobel's run yesterday. It's possible to get a 30.xx time, probably even a sub 30. While you can raise your chances to jump over the lake with this strat, getting the skip is just RNG. Also getting a crashless skip is simply luck. You just try it over and over again and you'll get it sooner or later. I'll post some more links and thoughts on discord in case someone wants to run this track. I don't know if Gnobel "flew over the lake" and got a skip with a crash or without. But he got a decent time and a record that stood for almost two years and was virtually untouchable. I'm glad this mystery is more or less solved now.

Sorry for being away for a long time!
To give you more info about the mystery of 'the flight over the lake and skip the U-turn' (I didn't know how to describe it better). I managed to skip that part as you can see in the videos The8arber have made. I skipped without a crash and was so surprised that I even stopped for a second or two before I continued the run. I would say sub 30 is definitely possible.
I am amazed by the fact you actually could reproduce the lake skip! I was not able to reproduce it.. oh I have tried.. Because it was impossible for me to reproduce it I was hesitant to post my lap record at the time since it felt like cheating.
Anyway, I like to thank you The8arber for all the effort you put into reproduce it! I am happy you were able to beat my lap record.

great to have you back here :) was really cool to read about your run, where you got the skip. I have to say your lap record was one of the biggest challenges in the game. And still is.
