No one's looking like a jerk for putting in research into this, don't worry, it's a fascinating mechanic and we just need a solid understanding of how it works.
I also want to add that because of the goofiness of the game's save system and because the save mechanism isn't displayed internally in any way, showing proof of a fresh start/no save file in further videos is a good idea.
I don't have access to PT so I can't test myself, so a solid start-to-finish video of exactly what's going on would cement this for all of us.
Thoughts? I don't think this counts as a New Game run.
Respectfully, since the game doesn't have "new game plus" as a feature, I also don't think this counts as anything. The game autosaves and doesn't have any game saving feature built into the game and the only way to clear your save is to delete it from the PS4 settings menu.
I also ran it on my lunch break, without streaming or recording yet, and it's clear it's simply loading the previous save, that's why once you beat the game, it will keep loading the final loop after restart until you go beyond the first cycle or otherwise overwrite the old save. I didn't even glitch any doors or anything and I was able to get it to go back to the final loop again without doing anything other than restarting from the first loop after beating the game once.
I can still add an edited video later just to show how the saving process works and what the game looks like when it's starting from a fresh save so all the mods know what to look for.
Yeah, that certainly seems to be the case. The jumpscare video seems to be single segment/no restarting though, that's the only thing I don't understand.
That's just utilizing the door glitch and I don't think is effected by the save. You pretty much walk up to the door, walk into it enough that you just trigger it opening, then you pull back immediately, cancelling the door animation and skipping that loop. Then the door is either stuck there or sometimes it vanishes, but you can keep rapidly glitching it, it's just harder to do because the animation is broken, but every time you do it successfully, you skip another loop, so he must have done it enough times to get to the loop where Lisa kills you, which is the loop after you see the gouge it out message for the first time.
Here's an example from my run last night where I skipped multiple loops to get straight to the flashlight loop. Wish I had kept going but I gave up because I was getting tired. Really does a number on my wrist.
And for the record that was not starting from a clean save. Not sure if that makes it easier to glitch the door or not, but from now on, any run I do is going to be from a clean save, just to be safe. If I notice that it makes glitching the door much more difficult, then I'll let you guys know since I still run this game all the time.
Thanks for the compliment Flaco!
About the New game thing, ok I Kinda agreed with you 3... (and I say Kinda cause I'm not pretty sure that the first time I did the glitch, it was not after finished it... But I agreed that if it only works after finishing the game it would be a Any%+ Game...)
But now I want you two to try this like I said in the first blog here XD "Now I've tried to see if was the fact that the game don't save when you close the app when you skip just one loop and it could had loaded the last puzzle of the game I had finished before, BUT NO the game saves when you start over, so is not the case... "
And I said that because of those two major facts:
1: The pieces of photos that I took, was not anymore in the photo... It was like a clear brand new run with no pieces photos taken... (And I had took all in the run before you guys can check in my twitch videos I posted here, I suggest you to take the pieces too to try it)
2: This glitch only works Once! You can try to do it again just after beating the game using it, like doing it forever right? But again you can see that this don't happens at the end of my video for the WR, the glitch don't work twice... If you try, You will now start at the loop with Lisa opening the door and the cockroaches on the floor... Then I ask Why? If it is loading the last save from the last puzzle as you guys are arguing, it should, don't? ^^"
Also, I've send my Jumpscare% run too and this like the Flashlight% one, you can do it from a new save file, so no problems with this one, will be accepted right?
Thanks Tekkie!
I'll try to make it happen, without the need of finishing the game, This or I'll just try to see if the game let you pass the "press X at the photo" Loop, that was the far I have gone with the regular door glitch... XD
Sure, I'll try and stream my findings tonight or tomorrow, but today I was able to keep loading the previous save over and over again as long as I didn't progress past the first door on the first loop after one playthrough of the game. As far as the picture fragments, the game may just not do a good job tracking them. As we've seen, it doesn't seem to know whether or not you've picked up the flashlight as sometimes you have it and sometimes you don't at the end when you use glitches. When glitches are in play, it's tough to predict whats happening to that poor save file. I've said on my streams in the past, I'm surprised the game isn't even buggier considering it was only a demo for an unfinished game.
But every time you did, you beat the game again and again? Cause I was only able to do it once everytime I've tried it ^^" I even did the same thing in the first loop at the video, and it not worked to me...
I played a little last night and while you were right about only being able to reload the last loop once from the start it was still only after beating the game that I was even able to do that. I cleared my save and ran through again and put all the pictures together and when I reloaded my old save after beating the game, the fragments were gone like you said, but I'm not sure that proves much since it again only worked after playing through the entire game once. It's definitely some sort of glitch but I feel it has something to do with that save file and either way involves beating the game completely first, so even though it's a cool bug it doesn't help you beat it any faster since you'd technically have to start time when you start the first playthrough that seems to be required to even trigger the bug.
Yes I ageed that this method don't fit the New game Any% or 100% categories... I just wanted to prove that this is in fact a glitch, and not just "the game loading the last save" at first, I had thought of that too, but now I'm sure this is in fact a glitch... XD
Like plywood said, it could work for a New Game+ Runs, but we don't have this category, so well.... Gonna focus now on diferents glitch skips now XD
I don't think that it should be a category because it isn't really significant or competitive, though it is neat that we are continuing to discover things about the game.
Really cool to see new things discovered after all this time, regardless
After reviewing bye's most recent WR in the category, I noticed he did not delete his save before starting a new run. I did some investigation into the game and whether this would be a valid run, and I realize that the rules for PT can be updated to make attempts better.
As long as when you loa
