Minimum Apples Problem...

I was looking through the minimum apples runs, and even though some runs still get unnecessary apples, the run is still counted. For instance, In level 1, Swskrei performs the level perfectly, but in the last part, he gets 2 apples instead of one. It's been proven by Michael Chan that 1 is possible. The same goes for the other levels. Why are these runs counted? I'm not trying to hate on anyone and all that - I just don't understand why these runs are counted.

I understand that level 9 has a TAS for minimum apples, but I still think that we should determine the HUMAN minimum number of apples. I think that once we determine that human number for each individual level we should start to accept speedruns only if they have their respective Apple number. Please help me understand what's going on. Again, I'm not trying to blame anyone or anything, I just think this is a problem that needs to be fixed.

Minimum apples is a very controversial topic. Lots of the tricks are nearly impossible to do in succession, like level 6. For my level 1 run, I used the minimum in @dn_scrtch's run. Although this is not the 'true' minimum, it was the minimum determined by the mods. If @DemonicSushi360 changes the minimum, then I will happily (well, maybe) redo my run.

I would agree with swskrei's comment. We will continue to use the "mod's limit" unless it is changed. For now, though we won't be using Micheal Chan's limit.

Personally, I think doing the true minimum apples is a fun challenge, but a terrible experience for speedrunning.

Hmmmm. I seem to have forgotten the mods limit. Can you tell me what it is for each level? The problem is whether or not a trick is "Too Hard" to perform to make an actual minimum apples run. For instance, the WR for level 3 held by speeeeeeedy collects 5 apples, but I have gotten 3 very easily. The only semi-difficult "trick" that is used, is the tight jump in between the spike and apple at the bottom of the tunnel. The apples in this image can also EASILY be skipped. Can @demonicsushi360 please help with this dilemma? I personally think that we need to change the number of minimum applls for some levels. I do understand, however, if he decides not to change this number.

Mods, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they are as follows:

Level 1: 2

Level 2: 4

Level 3: 5

Level 4: 1

Level 5: 0

Level 6: 4

Level 7: 18

Level 8: 15

Level 9: 9

So we could actually say that to do a minimum apples run you must collect a maximum number of apples for each level?

United States

@TheGreatYoKai what do you mean? For each level even if you get fewer apples than the mods limit, the run doesn't count? That seems REALLY counterintuitive to the whole concept of minimum apples... The reason I am pushing so hard for true minimum apple runs is because it's such a great concept and challenge for speedrunners who want a new challenge. (Also yes, I know that I haven't posted any levels to the leaderboards, but I am grinding for a actually good run for each level. )

Switzerland

@DoubleSpratt I didn't mean you must collect a specific number of apples, I was just asking if it's correct that you can collect a number of apples starting from the REAL minimum ammount until the mods limit. For example, according to what @Sir_Farcelot said, in level 8 you can collect until 15 apples for a minimum apples run; though you can actually collect much less apples

United States

Ok thanks, I understand. @demonicsushi360 could you please give your opinion on this situation?

Vietnam

Honestly, if an apple is too hard not to get but is still possible to avoid then getting that apple is fine. If first place we'll call a and second place b, if b beats a by collecting one less apple then b will be first.

Vietnam

So the maximum amount of apples for Level 1 can still be 2, but if someone gets one then they will be first

Ok, thank you for clearing up any confusion I had.

This makes sense, and doesn't ruin the entirety of the communities minimum% runs. One theory I was thinking of was that for every apple under the run with the least apples subtracts a certain amount of time from your run. For example, If someone gets 1 apple on level 1, but gets 21.5 or something of the like, their time would be 21.0. This creates a incentive to get less apples, and if the time taken away per apple is fair, it might work. What do you all think?

United States

Interesting!

The situation with minimum apples is quite awkward, but I think this is a great solution to the problem.

Ultimately, its the Mods decision. @DemonicSushi360, what do you think?

@Swskrei thats a pretty neat idea!

New Standards of Proof

Due to a recent cheating situation, I feel that top runs should have more proof.

  1. Any top 10 full game runs now needs a video of at least 20 minutes of attempts submitted along with it.

  2. any top 50% individual level submission now must have the replay code in the description or, if it's too lo
