How to clean up game with too many categories?

Hello everyone, I'm MigratingPig, Supermod/Speedrunner for the game Iggy's Reckin' Balls.

I'm speaking on the behalf of the small community. We have a pretty big problem regarding the layout of our page because this game has way too many unique ways to run the game. My question regards the page itself rather than the game, so I hope this is the right place to ask.

Real quick regarding Iggy's Reckin' Balls, This game has 11 different worlds with 10 towers each. Each world is categorized as a run and we do have each runner run on Hard difficulty. Starts when you select the world, ends the moment the final checkered platform on tower 10 is touched. Now these runs range anywhere from 7 minutes to 30 minutes, with an average of most worlds being 22 minutes.

Apart from the basic runs. We also have full difficulty runs, because running all the worlds on Easy only allows the first 6 worlds. Running on Medium is 10 worlds. Running on Hard is all 11 worlds.

We do not have 100% quite yet but it's been talked about due to a potential length of 9-10 hours on a good run.

Then we do have a separate category for each Individual levels so all 100 levels have their own category apart from the main ones.

There's a JP version of this game where every tower is 2 laps. Some towers in the EN version are 3 laps.

Now here's where things become much more questionable. A glitch was found a couple of years back that allows the runner to completely skip a lot of platforms. It's a bit difficult to pull off so after some talk with a few other runners, we went ahead and split the categories to include No Major Glitches and Any% so those who do not wish to learn that glitch may not need to, plus that glitch may in fact crash the game on the N64. Then add all of those separate categories to the JP version since you can perform the glitch on the JP version.

Then just last year, the game was added to the NSO, which is much more stable than the 64 version. However, there's input lag on the NSO version compared to the N64.

I've had other potential runners message me asking me about splitting the two versions N64/NSO so each one can have their own categories because the NSO loads worlds better BUT they do have different start cycles and can cost some runners time all because of different tower start cycles.

Now with splitting up these two categories, we essentially have far too many game categories which does not look clean for the page at all. My question now would be if there's any better way to actually clean this up and to make it look more presentable without actually losing potential runners due to not having one version versus the other. If anyone has any way to clean this up, I'd love to hear your thoughts. You don't need to be a runner for the game, maybe you have some advice from your own games about fixing this.

Thank you in advance!

quite the situation. i dont really know how you could get the nso/n64 split.

you can really satisfy everyone and this site isnt perfect for every game so all i can really think you can do is give in and make the platform split or own it and not do it for the sake of the boards itself and tell runners to use the website's own platform filtering if they want to compare only to n64.

Hey MigratingPig, totally get where you're coming from! When a game has that many unique ways to run, the page can get overwhelming real fast. Maybe grouping similar categories under collapsible sections (like by version or glitch rules) could help keep things tidy without removing anything? Some games also use subcategories smartly to avoid clutter. Hope you find a clean setup that works for everyone — your community sounds super passionate!
