I've never tried to do a speedrun before and never have I considered it. However, my favorite game came out (Resident Evil 4 Remake) and now I'm trying to get to the leaderboards. I don't know what tools to use to record times (like you see in YouTube speedruns, with timer on the side and the chapter). Can anyone give me some tips to start my speedrunning training? Thanks in advance :)
As far as tools go, many people use splits.io as a timer and a way to keep track of their runs. I personally use a timer that is in my editing software, though, and I usually retime my videos after I upload them to youtube. For recording, OBS is a good, free option for PC. When it comes to actually speedrunning games, I like to watch the videos of the top runs and search for any guides and resources that could help me be quicker in that particular game. I suggest playing smaller games, too, if you don’t want to dedicate hours to a single game.
