So, I got past ditto today for the first time (first try after switching from PS4 controller to keyboard) in BGB with GBC ROM and everything.
At first, I went straight for PP strats because I wanted to get one clean run before I try to go for the more risky strats. When I was standing in the gras and switched the pokemon around, I took a step left and got stuck right away. Like I locked myself between 4 walls so I can boing around like an idiot but that's it.
The guide was a bit unclear on which pokemon to switch if you don't have a pidgey. It says "If you don't have a pidgey, read Slot 6 as Slot 5" so I created a save state and tried out every combination.
S1->S5, S5->S13 (stuck between walls) S1->S5, S6->S13 (freeze) S1->S6, S6->S13 (literally crashed and white screen. No sound, nothing)
After that, I went off again trying pidgey strats. But I got 17 special but at least I have a pidgey now, right? So I tried again and did it exactly as said in the guide (S1->S6, S6->S13, S14->S15, S15->S17, S16->S9), stepped left and I'm "between walls" again.
What's going on here? Am I doing something wrong? Should I upload a run to youtube so somebody can take a look?

Indeed I did. It's guaranteed that the trainer ID is correct if I get Chansey after Squirtle, right?
Edit: Now I'm ending up in lavender town.
Edit2: Tried it again! Back to the walls. This time with pidgey strats.
