aiming whilst running doesn't make you run faster than usual, it moves you forward as you stop to aim, the devs intended that, it may being abusing the system they put into the game, but it is not manipulation/glitching, imo it should be allowed in glitchless
I'm going to try and explain the "Stamina Manipulation Exploit" as much as I can. I will start off with a definition of a glitch. This is from Speed Runs Live, one of the longest standing website that tracks speedruns and showcases races. They define a glitch as - "Glitch - Unintentional mistake in the game's code, often exploited"
So applying this logic to the stamina manipulation, it was probably intended by the developers that when you aim, you move forward slightly, but it was not intended for the player to be able to move faster than the speed cap of holding down sprint with this. So in essence, there was a mistake in the coding, making this a glitch. Not by my definition, but from the definition of a reputable source.
Now lets take a look at Cuphead. For those unfamiliar with the game, there is a glitch called "Weapon Swap Exploit". The game allows you to have a primary and a secondary shooter. You can swap between them with one press of a button. The devs intended this. Each shooter has different attributes, ranging from damage, fire rate and range among others. Stronger weapons typically have shorter range and lower firerate. Now, if you change weapons quickly, repeatedly, you can cancel the cooldown time in between each shot fired. This can be used to kill bosses very fast and saves a lot of time on runs. The devs did not intend for this to happen.
Yes. The devs intended for the player to be able to switch weapons as many times and as fast as they liked, but did not intend for the increased fire rate. The community of cuphead defined this exploit as - Weapon Swap Exploit is defined as: “the intentional misuse of weapon swapping in order to avoid weapon cooldowns.” This glitch is NOT allowed in the glitchless runs Cuphead, which is a somewhat similar example to this.
Hope this helps. Thoughts are welcome
by that logic, moving normaly and aiming would be classed as a glitch, and you'd have to reset your progress, if you want to clarify abusing the system is ilegal, that's fine, but this is an unintentional mistake in the games code that you can't avoid no matter what you do.
so should people have to stop sprinting to aim, do you have to limit this or just let it be a thing?
it has to be one of them.
My point is don't do it intentionally to gain speed. If you want to use the exploit, do it in glitched
If someone is aiming fairly regularly when there is nothing to aim at, then they are abusing the system to gain speed. That would be against the rules if implemented. one accidental click of a button would not be against the rules.
I seem to be having spasm's and reallylyly want to run this gaem, do i have an advanagetdge in teh glitchless category?
To be honest, you're the leader of a community. You should listen to your community. Be reasonable and don't be all selfish - "I got mod so I can decide everything right now!" - it's even stated in the common speedrun.com rules on how to handle your game.
Aiming so now and then only makes the game more interesting - movement tech is cool, you know it. Give your community what it wants, get the speedgame together - both the leaderboard and rules. Communicate with your community - if you come up with such post, take their feedback, don't be a dictator in the games you're an (only) moderator on.
Can we keep on topic of stamina regen or can we move onto other points that I mentioned in my original post? Because I would really like to get a defined ruleset and adjust the runs accordingly
I did miss the message actually I do apologise.
The problem is that we can't come to a sensible discussion of the rules. I will happily move it to glitched if everyone wants it. Including my own run. Not a problem. Just get all the runners together and decide
Stamina regen and ladder skip should not be considered a glitch imo. That's my feed for the rules that we ALL want to make sure to be a community agreement, right?
Obviously with a new timer that made a lot of the older runs unobtainable in terms of time, we've decided to move all the old runs to misc, and start the board fresh.
Please feel free to submit any runs and ask me any questions!
