It looks like the DLC for 300,000 Red Orbs, which you can get from early retail copies, is disc-based and cannot be removed at all once you've installed it. If not disc-based, then at least not removable as far as I know. The file size, when I look in my download library/history, is "N/A" as opposed to listing a regular file size like the 2-costume DLC for Lady and Trish (listed at about 200MB) which can actually be removed normally.
I've tried just about everything I can to get rid of the damn Orbs.
I've done complete uninstalls of the game data, which is supposed to clear all DLC associated with the game, but it still remains installed when I check my Add-Ons from the PS Store. But, as mentioned above, the costume DLC is uninstalled just fine. I also can't select the DLC itself to try deleting it manually, which I'm not sure you can do on the PS4 to begin with. I've also played the game at version 1.00 to see if 1.01 was automatically doing something. Nope, still there. I made sure that the save files all had above 300k Orbs so that it could be subtracted without any issues. I've deleted all save files for it on my system (after backing it up of course), created brand new saves... and still no good. I've tried different methods for about 2.5 hours now with no luck.
This is obviously an issue for me, as someone who runs this game on a retail copy on the PS4 and has installed this stupid Red Orb DLC once, a while ago now.
Every run I do starts with 300k Red Orbs from the beginning. All of my practice runs have never had the Orb count go below 300k -- a normal NG run -- and would like to start submitting stuff, but I don't know if it is against the rules just to have it installed at all.
Thanks.
Dang, that sucks. If you're confident you've tried everything you can with the game I'd just pretend you don't have the 300,000 extra orbs, i.e. if your orb total ever goes below 300k the run is invalidated. Look forward to seeing your times!
Just verified your run. I'm damned impressed with some of the play and strats you have. I have a writeup about what I saw while watching it that you should read
tl;dr your Holy Water route needs heavy work and you're not as consistent with the bosses as you should be. Most everything else is great though
Holy crap, thanks for such thorough feedback! This was very helpful.
Yeah, I'm still in a bit of a "play on instinct" phase so I really need to work on routing and strategies.
In-game time would be a bit of a pain but it would make the leaderboards more fair for everyone. I'd be okay with switching to it, or adding a column for it or something.
On that M7 skip you mentioned, unless the person is doing something special, I can't walk off the ledge the way they do. It may have been patched for version 1.01, so I'll downgrade to 1.00 and test it out later.
(Update on the skip: I still can't do it on 1.00 so I'm clearly doing it wrong.)
As for Assaults, I sort of change strategies depending on the area. I'll need to test whether they're going to be the fastest but it's certainly what I'm most comfortable with.

For Ancient Plaza, I'm worried about Rapid Slashing off of the ledges (mainly the giant pit) which is why I go with Lunar + Blistering there. It also works nicely with the Tricking you'll use in this area.

For fights in flat, relatively confined areas where you can bring in or quickly build Max Concentration (M9 + M17), I go with Max Conc. Rapid Slash JJC's. You build Concentration as you wait for them to land after spawning in M9. In M17 I use JCE for the Angelos so I usually maintain Concentration for the next fight with the Assaults + Mephistos.
I still don't have a really good strat for the Assaults w/Chimeras stuck to them. I prefer Rapid Slash JJC's since I'm always moving around, which I think helps with not getting hit by the others. I'll throw in a Blistering Swords if they start whipping around their tentacles. I'll need to do more work on these guys.
