Is switch lite good for speedrunning mario odyssey?
Sicily, Italy

So my switch broke in 2017 and i've been getting into speedrunning and want to speedrun mario odyssey but, as i said, my switch is broken so im considering buying a switch lite but i dont know if its good for speedrunning cause its SMALL so im just asking here

The only difference between switch and switch lite is that the switch lite cannot connect to the tv, other than that they are basically the same thing. I do not know if you can connect controllers like pro controllers. And it would be difficult to record because it cannot be connected to a tv. But it is mostly just preference. If you are fine recording when in handheld then get one but if you do not want to then get a normal switch.

Well, when you're done with the speedrun, do you want to post on speedrun.com? Because you can't record any footage since you can't connect the Switch Lite to your computer, so you can't post it. Besides, the normal Switch has the Joy-cons and is more practical.

I don’t think using a capture card is required for this leaderboard.

Yeah, not even. For example, I run Ocarina of Time but I don't have a capture card. I just point this shitty USB camera at my tv and they get verified no problem. Capture cards are not required, but they do help quality-wise.

I think that in order to submit a run you have to at least have a good video quality like a capture card or a video of the tv screen that's in better quality.

It appears that the game recognises the Switch Lite as a rumble-less controller; hooking up regular Joy-Con causes the game to play as usual without the screen shake, so the game appears to adapt to your needs. So yes you can play mario odyssey on switch lite.

To actually answer your question: It's better to get an actual switch, but you can still submit runs on a switch lite. You have to connect another controller to the switch lite though, as no mod is going to verify a run in which you just shake the screen the whole time. You can't dock a switch lite, but that doesn't mean you can't record. Just use a phone or other recording device to record it instead. In case you're wondering, it's good to have splits, but they aren't required to verify a run. It's definitely going to be a bit of a hassle, but it is the cheapest option. Okay, why do people think Odyssey doesn't work on the switch lite? It's literally the same software. However, the switch lite just has different, smaller hardware, so it can't be docked. Other than that, the switch lite is the exact same lmao.
