does copyrighted music invalidate your runs?

I've recently done a speedrun in which i had some background music that was copyrighted is that going to make my run not valid?

If it ends up muting your video, then yes, it has the potential to be rejected. Usually, mods will like audio to be present during a run as it helps them verify that the run isn’t spliced.

All of this is dependent on the game and the mods of that game though, so you need to contact them for a definitive answer.

IMO don't put music under your run. It makes it harder to watch for anyone - you might like the music, but others might not.

Not op but usually when i speedrun, i like to put my music on because most game have really repetitive music, If i want a run with game audio, i'll usually plug my earbuds to my phone so sobs doesn't capture the audio, but i usually speedrun for myself and don't really care if the run is considered valid for the community or not.

It is still a bad idea to put background music, an option is to look for songs that are not copyrighted.

The solution to this problem is to have music on a separate audio track from the game, that way you can just mute the music audio track and upload that version to youtube

@Lonne Oh yeah, that sounds great.

The answer to the question is not that music is directly responsible for rejection, but that some games have audio requirements, and if your video gets muted when uploaded to youtube that can cause a rejection. A way around this is to upload it somewhere else, like google drive, where it won't get muted.

In games that I've played, the music just needs to be audible (specifically just SFX), so i have my music playing in the background and the SFX a little louder and it's fine.

Just split your audio so that your personal music isn't captured:

However if it's IN GAME audio that's copywritten, good luck.
