Hello, I am also new to speedrunning (I have been speedruning for 4 months, so it could be considered that I am new) and I would be cool to practice any% of SMO. I have the physical cartridge and I had it updated to version 1.3.0 (the most recent version and the cartridge was already updated) and I would be cool to know if there is any glitch with which I can skip parts of Super Mario Odyssey or the glitches of Super Mario Odyssey that were used for just that, have they already been patched? I would appreciate if you could answer me
well moon skip is something you need to know, and if you wannt to get a bit more advanced nut clip and chest clip, but alot of the glitches that helped were in 1.0 but the load times are way faster in 1.3
You can also roll cancel clip, but it is very hard on 1.3. I have 1.3 and have done it a few times, but the best place to learn in by the shop in Cascade. The specifics are in any Minimum Captures video
iirc the only glitches that were in 1.0 and are no longer present in 1.3 that affected any% are first moon skip (the jump is still possible but the madame broode fight doesn't start), sphynx clip (i think icicle clip is in the fastest 1.0 route for sand, routed in after 1.3 was released, and while i think it's still possible it's certainly much more difficult) and turnip clip. other glitches like nut clip/other moon clips, fish clip and moon cave skip are all still possible. and as mentioned above, definitely check out tomshi's beginner tutorials for the routes, including glitches used in any% (there's no moon clipping in the beginner route i think, but moon cave skip and fish clip are still there.)
what is "moon clip" and "first moon skip" I know what moon cave skip is just not first moon skip
When Mario backflips, side flips, and some other stuff and you throw cappy mario gets pushed through a wall but straight back out but if you collect a moon while you’re through a wall you get to stay out of bounds. That’s moon clip. First moon skip is skipping the first moon in cascade kingdom and going straight to the mama broodal boss fight, but the trigger for the fight was changed in 1.0.1 so that it wouldn’t trigger before collecting the first moon.
you would be better served if you could factory reset your switch (ik if you have games, don't do this) and get 1.0, cuz all the loading times are barely faster than the loads on 1.0, but on top of that, on 1.3 physical all the above glitches don't work(all in all, 1.3 physical is 30 seconds slower than 1.0 on physical) or you can sell your cartridge and get a digital copy if you ever get really serious about smo speedrunning(it only loses like 30 seconds) and @Pods chest clip saves 2 seconds, not 0.5, but ye, it's still not worth for beginners, I have a 139, and I just do chest clip and nut clip cuz im dumb :) but yeah, 1.3 digital is fastest by like 10 seconds(from 1.0), then 1.0 is 2nd, 1.3 physical is slower by like 30 seconds(again, from 1.0), and that's it (well, technically 1.2 and 1.1 are much slower, but those versions were never used by speedrunners anyway.) Ik you just wanted to know about which glitches work, but glitches are not super important for being fast and mainly the loads are what make each version faster. But you might have to just disregard my shole comment, im not 100% sure how much faster the loads on 1.3 physical are, 1.3 physical might even be faster than 1.0, idk, but I know 1.3 physical loads don't save nearly as much as 1.3 digital tho.
Lululover, I tried to erase the game data so that it was restored to version 1.0 but it always stays in version 1.0 and unfortunately I have no money in the e-shop.
I'm sorry I'm wrong, I wanted to say that when deleting the data it remains in version 1.3
make sure your cartridge isn't in the switch when you initialize, and turn off automatic updates before you put it in
