Question regarding Run submissions, Timers/Splitters, etc etc

I've CONTINUALLY felt like a buffoon this week, asking such simple, Rookie-ish questions here lol. But I'm new to this, and am VERY computer/technology illiterate...I mean it's bad...VERY bad.

So my question is, what is the criteria for submitting a run? Can I just capture it and send it in (which even as simple as that method is I dont know how to do lol), or does it HAVE to have a Timer/Splitter displayed somehow? I can already tell from reading about them in the forums that those will be a NIGHTMARE for me to set-up/use. My inability to adequately use PC stuff is why I've always STRICTLY been a Console gamer. Also, I see it suggested to Watermark your video to prove it's you/deter theft of Runs, and I wouldn't know how to do that either :( I'm beyond embarassed gang.

Can someone give me the requirements? And perhaps direct me to a thread that can give a Novice step-by-step instructions? Thanks SO MUCH in advance, this is very important to me, and I need help to do it by the book.

ConkeyJoe89 you must use splits with your recording, i submitted 3 runs. 1 with no splits at all (just game speedrun recording) 2 with splits (but no autosplitter (timer was not showing In game time, but was showing Real time))

I have crappy computer knowlede and it took me ages to set up the autosplitter, and i can explain my methods that aren't complitcated with a clear step by step guide on how I set my stuff. in the end it works!

As for the splits, you can get them from the guides section. chose the scenario you want to speedrun and get the splits for it

by the way all those runs i did got rejected

Do you know why they were rejected? Was it bc it needs both RT and IGT displayed w/ the splits?

And yes, if you could detail to me how you've gone about recording your runs w/ splits displayed that would be great! I mean all the way from how you capture the audio/video, to setting up splits, and finally applying a Watermark if that too is required.

I still have to figure out how I'm gonna set this up, as the only PC in my house isn't mine, and is in our dining room not located by a TV to play on. Whata headache.

Well what about for PS version FurryWulfz? That's the only version I have interest in, and the US version in particular. Do I have to display both RT and IGT? Bc if I only have to show IGT why isn't the time displayed on the Final Ranking screen enough? Bc that shows the IGT if I remember correctly...

You don't need to have LiveSplit or any timer on display if you're not running the PC version. The only reason why the PC version has a mandatory rule for it is, because there are various ways to influence the in-game timer to your advantage whether the player is aware of it or not. So, having the timer on screen makes the verifying process much easier since you can monitor if the timer is being exploited.

All you need is to have the full run done in a single segment or segmented (a run done in multiple takes) if the board supports that format, but we don't track segmented runs here. Your run also has to meet these conditions to finally be accepted which are not having the audio muted, no frame drops (small quantities are acceptable) and the result screen is present in the video.

You can also check this thread for more about submitting runs. It's a general guideline so it doesn't contain any board specific rules for each respective RE game. https://www.speedrun.com/resident_evil/thread/a1ykt

Thank you SO MUCH Roofress! Can't ask for a much better rundown than that, and I'm very relieved to find out essentially all I have to do is capture the run with audio and good frame rate (both non-issues) seeing as I run it on the PS2.

England

conkeyjoe89 my runs were rejected becuase i was playing PC version that didn't show the splits, just the game footage. with pc version, the in game timer must be shown, but for other platforms, they don't. so you want to speedrun on ps2 version? if you want to learn how i managed to do it on pc version (with my crappy pc knowledge) (and i am a noob at using splits) then i am more than happy to explain simple step by step guide on how to do PC version set up

England

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN RUNNING PC VERSION:

in that case here we go!

1 - Download sourcnext version of the game. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_2277100523&feature=iv&src_vid=uUX0sBUPkgc&v=hI6qZWf9RSk) THIS WORKED FOR ME

2 - Download Livesplit (speedrun timer and split program) (http://livesplit.github.io/downloads/)

3 - You will need a screen recorder, the most common one we all use is OBS! really good for speedrunning! you can get it here (https://obsproject.com/download)

4 - In OBS, make a new scene called "window capture" and open your Biohazard 2 sourcnext and chose that (now you can record the game, (OBS let's you move the window recording anywhere in the screen, and also lets you shrink or stretch the recording view.

5 - Now your screen recorder works and your game works, you need to link an autosplitter with your livesplit (this will make the timer be with in game time and will change the splits automatically and show how much time you gained/lossed) this worked for me: ()

6 - Go to OBS, and chose "window capture" and select livesplit (open livesplit before doing this)

7 - Shape your livesplit and game so that they don't overlap and that they can fit on a widescreen resoloution (16:9) (you can chose this in the settings (OBS is really easy to use and understand!)

This will take some time setting up and following the youtube tutorials, but in the end it all works trust me! and issues, please please please please ask! i had an issue and i thought about giving up, but in the end i managed to make it all work just fine!

Thanks Loanshark! That's actually easier than I thought it to be, so I may look into running PC version at a later date!

sure man! PC version is 100 times better than console, it is much faster too! with console, it adds like 28 minutes due to door animation and loading times, it sucks!!!

Hello guys i submited one run in Pc claire A any%, i recorded only the game screen, and it was rejected, i don't knew that was not permited to run the game in Pc version without timers and srt in screen, but i know that was my mistake, cause i don't read the rules before submitting a run.Next time i will submit with srt, if it's allowed only the game screen and srt showed someone cold tell me.

United Kingdom

As long as you are showing the IGT on the screen then it should be fine to submit

Yea BombaNemesis, as Caliguluke and others have said PC just needs the IGT displayed (well, in addition to the basic in general rules). Btw Caliguluke, I love the profile pic! That's my fave Leon to play as, sucha BAMF with his Magnum!

And its funny Loanshark, I thought the same thing!!! Joe vs Joe, how hilarious is that hahaha. Although, I gotta admit, ConkyJoe is my childhood nickname from my Dad, my actual name (as well as his) is Jonathan. So he called me "ConkyJoe" or "Little Conky" as nicknames...dont ask, I have NO IDEA where that came from lol. Its funnier to me not to even ask

England

make a youtube account and submit runs to your channel! when you upload speedruns, you will need a URL to submit as proof, so that URl will take you to your youtube account where you uploaded your speedrun! and i look forawrd to Joe Vs Joe!

I'm happy to say I just completed my first TRUE speedrun of RE2, wanted you to be the first to know Loanshark!!! My final time was 01:28:36 with a rank of B (not like rank matters, but I was hoping it would denote my lack of saves, and only 2 FAS's I believe.) Learning the stuff I have from videos was enough to drop my previous PB when just playing for A/S rank and fun (01:46:03) by 18mins 33 seconds!!! And this was just my first time running this route, so I think the goal I set out to achieve (a sub 1:20:00 run) is totally doable.

Actually, I just checked and that time is good enough to claim 12th place on the PS leaderboard by like 53 secs! And 4th place on the US version leaderboard (like if you filter it to US only). I gotta order my capture card IMMEDIATELY and start recording, I want that 4th place haha. And only up from there!!!

England

very impressive! especially for you to play on console version becuase it's laggy and when you drop from a ledge, you can't control your character for about 0.40 seconds (i always fail runs because of this) today i was at PB pace and at final boss, i messed up and died. was about to get like 52 minutes (pc version)

England

make a youtube account because i am interested in seeing your speedruns and upload this on your channel!

Texas, USA

I have to first

A- buy my capture card (which will be the IO GV-USB2)

and B- figure out how to connect my PS2 and TV to it, bc while I have instructions to set it up on the PC it doesnt have any online to tell me how to CONNECT IT lol. It's original instruction manual will be in Japanese bc its from Japan. But this particular capcard was recommended to me directly be Cacrinogen, so I assume its top notch and reliable.

C) then I have to repeat a submission-worthy run. Which may be hard, may not. Idk yet lol
