Looking to get into speedruns

Hey guys, I hope this is okay to post here I'm sure a lot of these posts happen so I'm sorry in advance. Recently a youtube video appeared on my recommended talking about mario kart and super mario bros speedruns and I found them really interesting and made me feel like starting grinding. I have 5 CRTs in my house, a couple of gamecubes and wiis due to the fact that me and all of my flatmates play super smash brothers melee competitively, and of course a PC. I was trying to find a game that is not really too long to speedrun, something like super mario bros or mario kart but I would like some more recommendations. I tried speedrunning melee before but I don't really find it fun to speedrun.

Posting here is fine. Would have been better off in https://www.speedrun.com/Introductions/forum but I doubt its a problem. You can use the search bar at the top to find the respective leaderboard for a game of your interest. On there you will usually find a Discord server in which you can ask more about speedrunning the game. Good luck on your speedrunning endeavours and have fun.

Hey fellow melee player! Nice to meet you.

Check out The King's Bird. It's a technically deep and rewarding platformer with a solid art style and tight controls. In fact, it has many mechanics that remind me a bit of melee: walljumping, wavedash-esque techniques, precise analog movement, etc. It has 80+ individual levels (with leaderboards). It's been my speedgame of choice recently; I just got my first IL (individual level) record a couple days ago. Aiming for records across the board. Lotsa fun, with many features to make life easier for speedrunners. https://www.speedrun.com/The_Kings_Bird

Also check out www.superninjaslash.com. It's yet another technically deep platformer, and one I happen to have the WR for. It's free, and it tracks your time in-client, to the hundredth of a second. Technically it has 9 individual levels, but the run is so quick once you learn the route, you'll be aiming for <1 minute completion of the game (all 9 levels). It's still easy and fun to practice one level at a time, though.
