I believe it was originally made as a race category between Japanese players, I could be wrong though. I think I remember it being mentioned in a discord somewhere

Close. You need 30 stars to get into DDD. This makes 30 star a chopped 31 star run, without DDD, BitFS, BLJs, and BitS at the end. Cutting a run off at the halfway point seems a bit weird, though I guess the upsides of a shorter and perhaps more fun run still apply. In Super Mario Odyssey, the mods didn't want to accept the point of Festival% for a while, even though the ending was unique and the same upsides applied.

Guys, there is actually a 30 Star category, it is in the "Misc." categories.

But for those referring to 31 Stars: The point is that it was the "any%" category before Mips Clip was discovered, making it a "legacy any%" category (alongside 1, 16 and 70 Stars, which are also legacy any% categories).

For the actual 30 Star category ... I have no idea what it's point is, but I have to admit Fluffey could have a point, as it really just sounds like a race category.

I see 30 stars also as a category to practice the first 30 Stars of the 70 Star routing (from BoB up to LLL). That`s just me though. :)
