Hi everyone! waves

I am still extremely new to speedrunning, so I apologize if this is a "well known" answer already.

I have been fortunate to obtain an Everdrive N8 Pro, so I can run games on the original NES system Hardware.

I believe I understand that physically pressing the reset button on the console itself to hard reset is preferred, because this resets the global timer, and allows for a better chance to get a good seed/RNG, correct? (Please feel free to let me know if I am mistaken.)

If I hot Down and Start, I can pull up the Everdrive menu and select reset. I was just a bit confused why this is not a good way to reset? Does resetting from the everdrive menu act more like a soft reset, and the global timer jumps back at unpredicted intervals?

I am working to understand is all.

I appreciate the insight! I am looking forward to making some PB attempts. Hope you all have a wonderful day!

I'm not 100% sure how resetting from the menu works on an Everdrive as far as the RNG goes. I would assume it provides some kind of benefit though, as the game rules state all resets need to be done from the console itself on official runs.

When I was setting up my savestates on the N8 Pro, I had a really difficult time getting the right seed when I was just doing plain old resets on the console. It wasn't until I started hitting the power button instead of just resetting that I ended up with the right seed. I spent about 3 hours doing resets with a bunch of no buzzers before I powered off and got the right seed around 15 minutes later. I can't say you'll have the same experience, but if you're having trouble getting any runs going on your N8 Pro try powering off and then on again.

Good luck on the runs!

The main reason I specified using console reset is that I felt using the reset from the menu was somewhat of an unfair advantage in this case. People who use a regular cart can't do that, so treating the everdrive like a regular cart in this case seemed like the best compromise to me. Hopefully that makes sense.
