Downgrading to older versions

For the last few weeks I've been practicing All Missions, only to find out yesterday that because of the 1.2.0 update, most of the relevant glitches are near impossible or just patched out.

I've reinstalled the game in an attempt to start running it using 1.0.0, but the game refuses to start unless it's updated. I've tried multiple methods for disabling update prompts, such as editing DNS or using recovery mode, but with every method the game requires to be updated before starting.

Am I just stuck with 1.2.0, or is there something I'm missing?

Did you factory reset (wiping your saves)?

Tried it just now and it works fine, thanks!

I strayed away from doing it at first because the tutorial I followed for disabling update prompts highly suggested against factory resetting, though in retrospect that tutorial probably wasn't what I was looking for in the first place.

if you factory reset, can you update back to the newest update?

It's fine, they bought the system it, they can do whatever they want with it. It just kind of seems weird that they would wipe it completely, save data, digital games, profiles, all that just to play an older version of a game to get a faster time for a speedrun.

Actually you still have your profiles (if they're connected to a Nintendo account), as well as your games.

If you're planning on running 100%, 1.2.0 is actually faster than 1.0.0 if you learn a glitch called coin duping. This glitch is only possible since the 1.0.1

So one thing I've noticed and should share is that you can initialize the console without deleting save data in Maintenance Mode (Turn off Console, turn back on by holding Power and Volume Up + Down to access Maintenance Mode).

This resets everything including software updates. Saved game data, accounts, pictures, videos WILL be fine tho, it won't get erased. However, I have ran into the issue that you're required to update to the latest version if you want to play, despite the fact it's sitting at 1.0.0. So that option's out and I assume this is just part of the ordeal with Switch Ver 5.0.2 that was patched in the past month or because it's kept track of your prior gameplay history and is preventing you to go back to an earlier version... idk. But hey, I would love to be proven wrong if anyone can manage to bypass that roadblock.

Gonna test out a microSD card soon to see if a full-blown factory reset is required to play 1.0.0. (Don't want to lose data on certain games I've already put in hundreds of hours on)

As of now, turns out you really have to blow up your entire Switch data with a whole initialize. Sucks, I know.

You also need to have a physical copy of the game. Digital is gonna automatically be 1.2 during the download; no way around it. (as of this post anyway) BEFORE INITIALIZING: If you plan to save any data and somehow have a spare Switch lying around, I recommend transferring your saved user account and game data to that switch if you have any precious feelings towards that 100% file of 120 shrines/900 Korok seeds or whatever. MicroSD cards aren't gonna help much; only able to save pics/vids/album stuff.

This is also just something I heard recently, but depending when you bought SMO, your cart could be 1.2 if you bought one of the later copies produced. idk if this is completely true or not, but might be worth getting in touch with an earlier/potential 1.0 copy, if applicable. I'll post if I can find any further confirmation.

If you go to Maintenance mode, there's an option that says "Initialize Console Without Deleting Save Data" Will that work?

Also, if you're save data is connected to a Nintendo account, then isn't it saved on the cloud?

So everything is saved to your user then?

So if I go into Maintenance Mode and select Initialize Console without deleting save Data, It should work, right?

No, it won't work. iirc it just leads to a tutorial of how to switch your save data to another switch in order to preserve it while you factory reset.

The games are saved to your account, not the save files.

Everyone who votes that needs to change, say "I"
