Dsum manip manip: if you soft reset the game and do a hop 1 intro it will line you up with slots 9-10 if you get an encounter 2-6 steps after reloading the game (soft resetting resets your dsum value). Can use this if you're struggling to calculate where you are in the cycle!

This guide is not beginner friendly and assumes you know the red nidoking route. 

-Buy 4 or 5 balls (4 allows you to buy 8 pots before Brock, if you get lucky you may get to skip the mart after brock if you have 7 pots left over after brocks gym)

Nidoran female Manip (4 frame yoloball, you want a Lvl 4 with 19hp) (lvl 3 nido female is an IGT)

-Get hidden tree pot and hidden pot before weedle guy

-after weedle guy swap nido to front and heal squritle to full

-MART and buy 7 or 8 potions (4 pokeballs is 8 pots)

-Fight first trainer in Brocks gym: 
	-LEAD with nido, swap to squritle and use bubble until diglette is dead (scratch does 6/7, use potion when needed). 
	-Swap back to nido for sandshrew, use potion on squritle turn 1 (WHILE NIDO STILL OUT), swap to squirtle and then bubble X3-4,(1 speedfall makes you faster, scratch does 6/7) 

-Brock - normal fight use bubble and swap both times (both will be 2 shot even with 11 spec after lab rival)

-AFTER BROCK MART - buy 3/4 potions

-R3: Bug Catcher - Caterpie - tackle all, Weedle - scratch all (use tackle to finish), Caterpie - scratch all (use tackle to finish)

-use 1 pot before shorts guy, 2 if hp is really low

-Shorts guy - use scratch only cant afford to miss, heal when needed, (speedtie with ekans)(No reason to yolo wrap w/ speedtie)

-Bug catcher - Scratch whole fight, Kakuna (speedtied with 1 string shot), Caterpie (tackle does 2), Metapod (speedtied w/ 2 speed falls)

-Bug catcher - PS all

-TOP LASS - heal before this fight if under 20 hp. (pot twice if in redbar)
	 - ratatta - scratch/tackle X2, PS (speedtied with rat)
	 - nido - scratch/tackle X3 (Horn Attack does 9 after 1 def drop)

-catch a flier in the grass before moon

-REDBAR PARAS YOLOBALL DOES NOT WORK, HEAL IF YOU ARE IN REDBAR BEFORE THE MANIP

Old route use to be Bulbasaur thus Krazyd4n is comparing squirtle vs bulba below. The squritle route has a very low chance of actually finishing.

Good: have tail whip, so faster rival fight on average
Are water type, so 2 shot by lv 5 pikachu
 
Bad: Massive amount of RNG around the pidgey/slowbro catches, as neither can be manipped (we're talking single digit success %)
 
Faster in the ideal case, slower on average in a no-reset run, as if slowbro has bad special, you have to reset all the way to before the deathfly.

If low on balls, pick up weedle guy potion and sell it to buy an extra
If really low on balls, also pick up the antidote and the corner potion (or reset)
If really really low on balls, reset 

Switch Nidoking/Slowbro to front before Brock Thur Walls

Buy an escape rope
Do BTW (if unsure of movement watch someones run)

Here is general info on how to do BTW
After mart swap slowbro/nidoking to front
Head due right from the mart
Hold start once you step in front of the guy, move cursor to save
Press B to exit menu while holding right
Trigger the cutscene
When the "Follow Me" textbox appears, clear it with the B button
Instantly after pressing B hold the START button
If you did it right, your start menu should pop up
Hit SAVE (you are already over it) and reset
If your start menu didn't open, you hit start too late. Just go back and try again
Once the game reset, load the savefile normally
Once loaded spam B while holding right
Go back to the guy and stand talk to him
after clearing the last textboxes hold B and hold RIGHT
If the game crashed, your Pidgey had bad HP or your slowbro/nidoking didn't have 16 Special
If that happens, reset and try again or reset to start the run over
Switch pidgey to front if have nidoking


Save and reset for DITTO manip after BTW
Catch ditto (AA pidgey works, SLOWBRO also seems to work)

This is a guide for how to beat Pokemon Red without using any TM's (TMless).  Teaching TM's to any pokemon for any reason is banned.  Since certain HM's are required to progress the game, teaching HM moves is allowed, even nonessential ones (mainly just fly, but also technically applies to flash); however, using any HM moves in battle is banned.
 
This guide is still a work in progress and is subject to change at any time.  This guide also assumes you know the general glitchless route (locations of important items, how to get Instant Text, etc.)

The route is the same as glitchless up to Mt. Moon, with small changes:
-Buy 6 poke balls in viridian (need 5 and want 1 extra for the bag slot)
-Buy 6 potions in pewter, also buy antidote if you used one on weedle (necessary for dugtrio manip)
-Money is pretty flexible, so you can buy extra balls and potions if you like, but you then have to do the Pewter shop after Brock
-Swap leer and Horn Attack (HA) on third Route 3 trainer
-Take the center before Mt. Moon

It is still unknown if doing misty early with nidoking or doing it late with dugtrio is better.  Late misty saves about 3-4 turns over the course of the run, but requires extra biking down to vermillion, taking 40-50 seconds.  I am of the opinion that early misty is faster, however it is much, much safer to do late misty with dugtrio.  If one wishes to do late misty, the only changes from the notes below are to get bike voucher immediately upon entering vermillion, dig out of diglett cave and do misty after getting dugtrio, and rare candying after the second slowpoke in rock tunnel instead after the bug catcher.
