My second news post this week! Can you tell I've been taking my adderall?

Map Update

I held a poll in my public Discord about whether I should make some certain changes to the current fixed map we use for speedrunning on 1.19+. The answer to every change I proposed was a unanimous "yeah do that." Every single one of these changes is to help with lag issues. With that, here's the changelog.

Infinitely burning Furnaces in Mine Co.'s "Smelting Room" have been changed into regular furnaces

Parkour Thief makes use of debug tools to create furnaces that are infinitely in cooking mode, even when they're empty. When there's 50 furnaces all cooking at once like there is in this room, with a sound effect playing for each of them, shit gets real laggy. Minecraft's sound engine actually completely breaks as well. It's bad. This change makes them normal, inactive furnaces. Thank god.

Rain has been disabled

It rains pretty much every 5 minutes in this map without fail. I don't know if that's a 1.5.2 map thing or not, but it's laggy for most players and annoying for all of them. The gamerule doWeatherCycle is now false. No more rain!

TNT in the TNT sequence at the end of Chapter 3 is now pre-exploded

I was considering whether or not this was too far, but for the sake of the game and accessibility, this was the best choice. TNT is laggy as fuck on most computers. The side-effect here is that the randomness of the TNT patterns is no longer a thing, effectively cutting out a major RNG section in the run. To some this is "too far" but I think it's ultimately the right call for the future of the speedrun based on accessibility alone.

That's it for the map. Make sure to grab the latest version of the speedrun map in the resources section, or right here.

Parkour Thief 1.19 MultiMC Practice Instance

This is something I've been working on cleaning up for a while and something I've shared early versions of in my Discord, but I'm happy to say that this is now finally completely public!

The instance comes packed with Sodium for performance enhancing, Iris for optional shaders, LoTAS for savestate creation and loading, 19 savestates for the full map, the Parkour Thief Practice Map for practicing strats, and a map to practice item grabbing.

This instance is an incredibly powerful practice tool for this map, and I highly recommend anybody interested in speedrunning Parkour Thief to check it out. You can find the instance with more info in the resources section, or here.

Parkour Thief 1.19+ Practice Map

This map is already packed into the Practice Instance by default, but I decided to release it on it's own for anybody who can't use the Practice Instance for some reason. This map is really only good for practicing strats, so for practicing longer sequences or full chapters, check out the Practice Instance. With that said, this map makes practicing strats extremely efficient. When you miss the strat, you warp back to the start of it. When you hit the strat, you warp back to the start of it. When you want to practice a different strat, go back to the hub and select it. It's really that simple. With this I've been able to come up some personal visual queues for some of the hardest strats in the game, and if I can you probably can too. You can find the map on it's own here.

That's it! I hope these resources help to make the game even more accessible and lower peoples times in the future. The map has never been as playable as this. Practice is a powerful thing, and it has never been this easy. With these combined, the future of Parkour Thief looks exciting.

Have fun guys!
