Hare are some tips to successfully doing the door glitch:
- Positioning of the playable character
Take three steps forward (you will hear three audible steps in game), then begin flicking. You are trying to enter the loadzone trigger, then immediately pull out of it. This will break the door and allow you to skip cycles. If you get out of position, just tap forward to push yourself closer to the door.
- Speed of your flicking
You literally want to flick your stick as fast as you possibly can. I've seen a higher success rate the faster I flick the stick up and down (roughly 12 and 6 o'clock). Most of that is done with my fingers, but you can try to use your wrist as well. The slower you go, the more likely it is to fail. Essentially, try to ABUSE your analog stick.
- Hand position on the left analog stick
I position my left thumb on the bottom of the stick, and my index finger on top. In other words, pinching the analog. This gives you good control over your speed.
- Execution after initiation
Initiating the glitch can be difficult, but once you get it, it is a matter of execution. The door at this point should be broken. When the door breaks, you should BACK UP. Just flick your way into the load zone repeatedly. If you get pushed into the hallway, BACK UP. You want to get behind the load/animation zone so you can do the glitch again. Don't be afraid to take your time when doing followup door glitches.
You can get a variety of 'broken doors.' Often, the door will disappear. Sometimes, the door will get stuck in a position. The hallway can be lit up, and other times be darkened out. This doesn't really make a difference, unless you get the weird door that Leo got in his Flashlight run.
Examples:
How things can go wrong:
You end up triggering the door animation and walk through - You didn't pull away quickly enough.
You performed a single cycle skip - The door wasn't broken enough(?), this happens on the first door, and it's a huge pain. Your goal with the first door skip is to BREAK the door, not perform a single skip.
You don't seem to be affecting the door at all - You aren't close enough to the door, or aren't in the 'lane' for the door. You can be too far left or right when performing the glitch.
After reviewing bye's most recent WR in the category, I noticed he did not delete his save before starting a new run. I did some investigation into the game and whether this would be a valid run, and I realize that the rules for PT can be updated to make attempts better.
