Speedrunning Unlocking Competitive On A Fresh Account (Level 1 -> 25)

Planning on buying another smurf once the game goes on sale during the event. Want to do something interesting to try and make leveling it to unlock competitive a little bit more interesting.

  • Timing would start as soon as you que for your first game.

  • Time ends as soon as you pull up your profile.

  • No restrictions on queing with people, playing certain game modes, etc. The only restriction would be NOT doing this run during a double XP time period (afaik, only one has ever happened).

Probably won't do this for a few weeks, but, let me know if you're interested in doing this. I know according to the current rules it won't be added as a category until then.

Here's some quick math/strategy.

278,000 XP to level 25 4.2252 xp/sec while in a party in a game. Therefore before factoring anything else, 65,795 seconds (18 hours 16 minutes 35 seconds) of in-game time needed for level 25.

Time saves:

  • 35 seconds for each match finished.
  • 118 seconds for each match won.
  • 35 seconds for end of match gold medal exp.
  • 71 seconds for each consecutive match played.
  • 94 seconds for backfill.
  • 355 (x2 for 710) seconds for First Win of the Day.

Time lost:

  • How much time it takes to find a que and finish hero select.
  • Failing to do the above listed things to an acceptable degree.

Strategy:

  • Always play with a friend. (+20% EXP)
  • Spam QP to avoid XP penalties in other game modes and get consecutive match XP.
  • Try to win as many games as possible. (Saves 2 minutes, per additional win)
  • Start the 'run' at a time of day that allows for you to get 2x First Win of the Day.

I'm estimating that this probably takes somewhere between 12-16 hours of real time to complete if the above strategy is executed properly.

It's a alright idea but won't work Reason 1: Not that many people would attempt

Reason 2: To make a run you got to pay 50$ for a account! It isn't worth it

The game is most likely going on sale for 50% off during the next event. Also, I heard that console players can make as many accounts as they want with a single copy of the game. Not sure how true that is.

Obviously, this isn't really meant to be a super serious category though.

I'll accept this if you do a run, but just because of the fact that you have to pay money to even do a run it will be a misc category. So yeah, if you do the run feel free to post it and I'll add it in.

It won't work without paying on PS4 because you have to have PS Gold which costs around 10$/month

On PS4 as long as you have the main account set as primary ps plus will be avaliable to everyone therefore on playstation not sure about xbox but you can make as many accounts as you want.

As long as you have the account that has playstation plus is set a primary account on you're PS4 you can go make other accounts and they will also have ps plus so in result you will have free ps plus on any account so you can therefore play overwatch on any new account. Like i've said I have no idea how to do this on xbox or if it's even possible and I know you have to buy a brand new account for overwatch on pc but if pc players wanna run they could go to g2a or something were you can get a new account for free.
