If you have any suggesitions on the categories, speedrun.com/ots or anything ots related, I guess a Thread to regroup them all would be nice.

So I'm gonna start : Why not get this thread in the stickies ? ;)

Suggestions and Ideas :

1.) Can the background set to fixed ? It's a bit of a pain to read long forum posts with this moving background. 2.) Another idea for the background : http://studiominiboss.com/presskit/ots/promo/Background.png

3.) Why not changing game cover by the following one ? http://studiominiboss.com/presskit/ots/images/logo.png

4.) For the currently named any%, why not simply calling it broken% ?

I won't change anything until i got at least prettz opinion on this (i will try to contact it when i will have solve my hardware issues). But here is what i think of it:

  1. If more people want to use it i agree that it should be sticky. For the moment it's not really useful especially since it's nearly at the top of the thread list.
  2. Personally it doesn't bother me but i can understand it can be a little bit annoying for some people.
  3. It's exactly the same background but without the characters making it less interesting imo.
  4. I like both, no opinion on it.
  5. The name, rules etc... where decided a little while ago on a huge conversation between several runners of the game. The name of any% changed a lot as we discovered more about the game breaking glitch but was finally decided that day. The main reason is because it matches the definition of any% http://www.speedrunslive.com/faq/glossary/ since we don't impose any limitation on trick/glitch that can be use contrary to any% IGT.

  2. Yeah, I've been considering that for a while as a change, especially without a nicely faded edge between both sides. Does add a lot of character to the section though.

  3. I decided to have the game's cast as the background based on limited ability to have the game's content shown in the run section so it'll always have at least something to do with Grigori being chased by Yuri or Yuri with his teleport gun.

  4. That image is already the speedruns.com logo in the top right and the game cover image I found is the original game cover design by the creators of the game.

  1. Oh yeah, right. I didn't see it was the same. ^^' As for the game cover : yeah I know but, imo, it looks a bit "Meh...". :/

  2. Couldn't be here, I didn't have internet access since 3 or 4th of August... Anyway, for the Any% categories, puting "IGT" in the name is not the solution... It's not representative of the difference there is between the two categories. We should use a similar solution that speedrun.com/smb used : naming the glitch (Wrong Warp in that case) and then naming one category "any%" (no WW allowed) and the other "any% WW" (use of the WW). We may call it Wrong Warp, but it's not really a wrong warp... We also could call this glitch the 5_5 OoB, 5_5OoB, 55OoB or something like that, but it's not really sexy... 5OB, SOB, maybe ?... I dunno...

We're definitely NOT naming it SOB. (I don't know if it was a joke or not)

Anyway, the IGT is here to differentiate the two main way of keeping track of time. The problem with the In-game timer is that there are two tricks that breaks it: -Save warping (used in any% and collectible%) -Smoke Overflow Glitch (or whatever people choose to call it, we doesn't even have an official name for it)

That's what forced us to create different categories. That's also why we used the method to keep track of time to name them, because that's one of the main reason these categories were created.

Your suggestion is also good and was suggested during the meeting but the majority wanted to name the fastest/limitless category any% and that's where the names come from.

I can understand that it doesn't sound very well for some people. Frankly, i don't think there is a perfect name that will please everyone for these categories but the current system has the advantage of making clear what timer to use.

At the shootemup, isn't it better to get hit by 3 ships, either top or big 3, then dying to the fouoas it appears?

At "Before the City", why do people jump at the ledge before shooting the gun? Wouldn't it be faster to jump before and fall right after the ledge to increase your vertical velocity, so you can shoot the teleport gun earlier? Would you fall down the bottom of the screen before the teleport bullet can hit the block?

So hitting 3 ships in the first group? You have to hold left to do that so it takes a long time to get to the fourth ship whether you choose it among the first group or race straight ahead to the second group.

If you have an idea try it out. I don't see a faster way to do it, but maybe you have some strategy in mind that could actually work. There has not been a ton of optimization of this stuff so don't just assume that what people are doing is always optimal.

A very easy and rough way to test if you're faster than current strats is to after having your ship destroyed just hold right and skip the first dialogue box (don't use teleport gun at all). With current strats the dialogue box in Spaceship Graveyard triggers almost immediately after the timer turns to 00:00:07. So if you do this with your space strats and the dialogue box comes up at 00:00:06 that means they are slightly faster.

If on the other hand you do the same, but you do the small teleport at Crash Site, then with current strats the dialogue box comes up right before 00:00:07. So if you do this with your space strats and the dialogue box comes up at 00:00:07, then that means your strats are slower.

As you say the screen would transition before you hit. Exactly when we jump could be optimized a little bit I bet, but it's very minor.
