Information that can help to better understand what is sometimes happening.

How the Map is Built

You can think of the map as multiple cells linked by loading triggers. You must go through a loading trigger to load the next cell.

Good to know:

  • The loading triggers are limited in space, meaning that if you are far away from where you are supposed to be, you might encounter their edge.
  • What goes through the loading trigger determines what is loaded in the next cell.
  1. The hitbox of Stranger loads the collisions of the next cell.
  2. The camera loads the textures of the next cell.
  • If you are in the situation where the textures are not loaded, you can simply fix this by quickly switching the camera. (this will only work if the hitbox of Stranger went through the loading trigger)

Event Triggers

Throughout the game there are multiple invisible triggers that will spawn enemies or change the status of objects on the map. Some of these can be avoided to prevent some of those events to occur.

Fall Height Calculation

To determine the height of a fall, the game will only look at the height you had when you left the ground and the one you have when you land. This explains why after some Rope Launches we don’t get any splatter animation, even if Stranger flew miles upwards.

Automatic Refill of Magazines

After you fire some ammunition and don't reload it, you can switch to 3rd person camera and stay with this camera for a bit of time. If you spend enough time in 3rd person camera without ever going back into 1st, the next time you switch to 1st person camera all your currently equipped ammunition will be fully loaded.

Stranger Can't Move

Sometimes, Stranger won't be able to start moving in 3rd person camera. You will encounter this situation only in unrestricted categories because it's an issue caused by high framerate. There are 2 main ways to fix this. You can either:

  • Switch to 1st person camera to start moving.
  • Make a quick save. This will cause the framerate to briefly drop.

Invisible Ground

There are some out of bounds places where it looks like there's no ground to walk on, but you can actually walk on an invisible surface without falling. Sometimes it's ground without texture because it's in a place we are not supposed to be, some other times it's the hitbox of something below that actually extends further up than what it looks like.

Stranger and the Water

Stranger can only swim on the surface of the water. If he is under the surface, the game will push him up until he reaches the surface.

Good to know:

  • The water extends infinitely below the surface.
  • This means that Stranger can enter the water from below the surface.
