Segmented run in progress (X360, Pal)

#13 is done, and as I told previously, I gained 3 whole minutes on the pursuit. It might be a bit harder for #12 tho.

Next segment might take some time to be done.

France

#12 is done, no big changes. I managed to gain 10 seconds on the pursuit by ending it just when I needed, but that's all.

France

The run is on semi-pause atm, for a few reasons.

First, Forza 6 is out for 2 weeks now and I still play it a lot to learn and master the game. Second, when I don't play Forza, I try to spend my free time doing other things or just casually play other games for fun. (If only I could stream!) Third, I speedrun other games, and it takes me some time to learn and find some strats. And MW has annoyed me a bit because of my fail, so I tend to do it for shorter sessions, and do cleaner races when it's possible.

I've already finished Big Lou's segment, I just need to edit, render and upload it; might do it in the next few days. Baron is nearly done, only the pursuit and duel remains.

EDIT : Also I'll have to test some strats that should be possible only in segmented, so this too might make the videos with longer interval between them. I'll have to test the Elise start glitch, and also the master glitch for the final pursuit later.

So, if some people still follow this run, do not be surprised if you see that the videos aren't done, and sorry for the delays.

#11 part is done...

Question for an admin :

I've just finished my #9 race in which I'm chased by the cops, and I've only be seen by one a few meters above the finish line, and he instantly "fled". That means that at the exact moment on when I cross the line, I'm evading with no cops on sight, but I'm however not in cooldown mode yet. So my question is : Can I keep this race for editing, and then make my pursuit normally? (that implies that the pursuit segment will be most likely to start with many cops cars on me, which will cause a difference on screen).

Czech Republic

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand correctly. What difference are you talking about? Bounty points?

France

No, this has nothing about bounty points or heat level (during #9 races you get stuck to heat 3, and I'm already on it). This is just about cops "presence"

I drove the only race with cops in my routing, and I've got seen by a cop only a few meters in front of the line. The cop just took another road so I was beginning to escape. When I exactly crossed the line, I was escaping, but I wasn't in cooldown.

If I keep this segment, when I'll do my pursuit segment, there will be a visible difference in game, because you'll see the end of the race with litterally no cops around me. And after the line, the pursuit segment will start, and I'll have some police cars around me (because I drive the race and the pursuit separately, to get the best times possible).

So, my "simplfied" question is : Is the difference on screen OK enough so I can keep this race segment, or should I re-drive it to get more cops and lower the difference?

If it's still quite difficult to understand (no problem) after that, I'll try to make some screenshots to show you what it looks like.

Czech Republic

Oh, you were escaping, but not in cooldown. So if I understand it correctly, if you were to continue after finishing the race (eg. in RTA run), you would have to wait for the cooldown, right? How did you "end" this segment without cooldown? I don't know how it works in MW, but in Carbon you can't leave the game when you're in pursuit or cooldown, unless you use alt+f4.

I'm afraid that you have to redo the segment without being chased at all or you need to escape during the race. The visual difference between segments is not a problem imho, the problem is you actually didn't finish the segment. You sort of break the game's rules.

EDIT: On the other hand, if ALT+F4 trick works in MW, then I think you're okay (you'd probably have to do it during recording, which you probably didn't), but to be honest I would redo the segment myself, just to be safe.

France

There's just one point you misunderstood. I want to get cops attention to avoid to start a pursuit from the menu, which is like 5 seconds slower than starting one during a race. My goal isn't to escape in this race, so that's why it's hard to say for me.

I know that technically I didn't break anything, because I was still in pursuit when I crossed the line, so cops could've found me right after the line. My only worry was about the cops that aren't there in the race segment, but will be there after the line in the pursuit segment.

And reminder : I'm on X360, so I don't have Alt+F4, but I can come back to the Xbox main menu with one button, so it's quite the same.

http://hpics.li/4867ab1 -> The moment the pursuit starts, you can see the finish line is not far away

http://hpics.li/e0438a4 -> And the moment I cross the finish line, you can see that the cop made a u-turn, and I'm still not in cooldown, because there isn't the little "semi-circular" thing in the middle of the black sensor. Then imagine there is many copsright next to me after the line, like they just popped out of nowhere.

Czech Republic

OK, so if I understand it correctly now, you want to start the pursuit (segment 2) right after the race (segment 1) to avoid starting the pursuit from menu, thus save 5 seconds.

JessicaSix, you are correct, however I think there is one exception - autosaves and quicksaves. I believe MW use autosaves and if it works the same way as in Carbon, the game automatically autosaves after each race (or cutscene) and everything beyond that point doesn't matter (that's why alt+f4 trick works in Carbon).

What I don't understand at all is how are you gonna start a pursuit from autosave if you won't start it from menu? There shouldn't be any cops around unless the autosave counts them.

France

To understand, I'll explain you how I record my segments : (in this case I'll talk about this race & pursuit)

  1. I tryhard the race to get it as I want (this means the good time and good cops, and I've got it despite the cops are not directly nearby me on the finish line)
  2. I quit the game without saving, and then I re-launch it when I want to do the pursuit.
  3. When re-launched, I re-drive the race, but this time I don't care about the time, I just want the cops.
  4. Once I estimate that the cops 'presence' is OK, I end the race, and start the pursuit. 4b)When I edit my replays, I cut the race video at the last frame of the 'winning screen', and then I add the pursuit.
  5. I repeat the 3) and 4) until I'm satisfied of my pursuit, and then I can do my speedtraps OR the duel if all requirements are done.

I proceeded on every segment like this, and you never told me there was a problem at this point so I don't see why it's good now.

France

My autosave is disabled of course. Moreover, what's this 'map' you talk about? I mean, when I finish a race, I've got the winning screen with the photo, the time and the cash gained. When you leave this screen, you can select a new race or a milestone. Getting cops attention during the race avoids me to open this menu to start a pursuit, because I'm already in another one!

Check my previous segments if you're not sure, but nothing lacks because every time you see the winng screen and the menu after it if I select a race, or a speedtrap When I drive a race after another, I cut at the first frame of the 2nd race. When I drive a pursuit after a race, I cut at the last frame of the winng screen. That's just all.

Czech Republic

JessicaSix: If I disable the autosave, how can I reload my latest save file if I don't save? That doesn't make sense.

Seven: The problem is that you're using two segments while it should be just one, OR there would have to be that 5 seconds menu. Discrepancy between segments is not allowed unless you have a very good reason for it.

EDIT: So either do both segments as one, or redo the first one WITHOUT cops (or with cooldown, but you obviously don't want that - which means you can't use the current video) and the second one with that 5 seconds menu, where you choose the pursuit.

France

Watch this screenshot : http://hpics.li/03840f7

This is just a quick attempt to show you what you'll probably see in my pursuit segment. Cops cars. Everywhere. So is that difference (going from no cops cars, to plenty of them) OK, or not?

EDIT : You understand that I did that on every other part right? There was no problem as far as I know. SO wtf?

Czech Republic

Sorry, I guess I didn't notice that. Going from no cops to plenty of them is not okay. That's an advantage and discrepancy between segments, even though you can theoretically do it the same way in just one segment, so the advantage is kinda non-existent.

JessicaSix: What do you think? I'd really hate to see Seven restart his run again because of this tiny discrepancy.

France

You're the one who told me that I should do as many segments as possible to get the best times. On the other segments the difference is minor, so I can re-drive this last race if needed, but I can't do more.

I just can't do a race + a pursuit in a single segment perfectly, sorry. Because that means that I would need a great driving + no bad traffic + no cops in my way + these cops that must follow me all race long + a good RNG for the cops spawn during the pursuit + a good RNG for roadblocks when I need them. Do you really think you can do this in a one-shot. I don't.

Czech Republic

Yeah, but I didn't say there can be discrepancies between segments :)

I only said to do it in one segment as an option, not necessary thing. The decision is up to you. I'd still wait for JessicaSix's opinion, though.

France

Now the choice is quite simple tho.

  1. You both decide that I can continue this way

  2. If you decide that I can't, I quit. I just do this segment so that I can wait to play this game on a good PC

Really? How can you say I cut out some parts of the game? Is any race missing? Is any single bounty point missing? I just don't get your point of view.

I just posted my parts one by one on purpose because I wanted you to tell me if everything is ok, if I'm doing everything correctly. And today, I ask you about something, and at the end, all I get is a 'I don't want an anwer from you'? Are you damn serious?

I thought that you were an help, who could learn me some tricks or just give me some infos on how to do better, and this looks like a sermon.

The least coming from you could've been to answer me nicely so that I could be satisfied of your answer and keep my will of doing my segments. Your answer just completely broke my will of doing this. Maybe you can this fleeing, maybe no one will agree with me, but this is the way I understood it.

To continue, when did I even say that it was Ewil's fault? I just said that he was the one who told me to do as much segments as possible, so I tried to do my best and get the best times I can. Maybe I did wrong, maybe some people would say it was good, but whatever. The person is not the problem, it's that I did as I thought is was the best and no one here told me that I was doing wrong (at least for this point, I don't talk about the 1st time, that was my fault, entirely.)

I think that you still don't understand my request though. You seem to understand I wanted to escape, and then I started another pursuit. This is wrong ! I told you that my goal with to keep cops attention on purpose ! So If the difference with the cops cars on screen was too big, I could've re-drove the race, so there's no problem. But now it seems that it's an entiremy diffrent problem, that I even don't understand.

You talk about Resident Evil , but as any other game, I know what's speedrunning. Man, I don't get the point of this argument. Please explain what you mean, you lost me.

As segmented 'rules' (tho I don't think it's about rules, but just a difference of understanding of the situation) are creating that much of a problem, I don't see the point of continuing it, because I'm tired of fighting to understand what I'm doing wrong and getting harsh answers than friendly and comprehensive ones.

I'll probably just stick to single segment runs which I'll do when I'll have a good enough internet to stream it. It will be enough, I'll wait till this will happen.

You know, I'm still new to speedrunning community, but I wanted to help other people, to search for glitches, to get the fastest route. In one expression, to make the community go further. Seems that I failed, and now it's even like I'm totally out of it. I'm young (20 yo), but I've got respect to me and to everyone, thus I'd never submit somthing that is uncomplete, I just couldn't bare myself for it. When I do something, I try to do my best and getting me and others satisfied.

This is my last post about it, unless you ask for my opinion. I've said everything I had to. I hope that you don't have a bad impression of me, and if it is, well, I can't do anything more about it. See ya later !

Czech Republic

Holy shit, calm down, guys.

Example: 8:10 of Big Lou You can see that Seven ends the race with 2 cop cars and then continues with 3, maybe 4. That's a segment discrepancy, which would be rejected on SDA due to gaining an advantage, although very small one. It's like finishing a level in Quake with 20HP and starting a next one with 30HP.

Seven: I'd like to somehow fix it, but I'm not sure it can be done. Since you ended the race while still in pursuit, there is the missing part of getting away and 5 seconds from choosing the pursuit from menu (that's what JessicaSix was talking about - cutting video parts).

I feel like unless more cops means raising the Heat up faster, one more cop on a screen makes no difference. However, there is still the problem of luck manipulation, which is of course easier with more segments, so even if we say it's okay to keep it like that since you didn't get any measureable advantage from different number of cops, you still got an advantage from using more segments than we can see in the video, even though you can theoretically finish both the race and pursuit in the very same time, it would just take much longer to do, obviously.

If I were the only mod here, I would probably close my eyes and let it go with a promise to never do it again since it's your first speedrun and unfortunately one of the more complicated games to run segmented due to its weird gameplay mechanics, but JessicaSix has apparently a different opinion, so I'm afraid we have to reject it.

If someone has any idea how to fix it, please do tell. I really really hate to reject runs on the basis of not knowing one fucking thing.
