Would you like to separate leader boards with real machines and emulators?

Arizona, USA

Hello! I'm clearly biased about this, however I don't think that is required. From my experience watching these speedruns, I have never seen a noticeable difference between the load times of an emulator versus that of an actual GameCube. This is something however that I have been considering doing some actual research on, and I will take a look at it.

If I'm being frank here, I would be disheartened if this change was implemented. I spent a lot of time during college optimizing a run for this game, and the only console that I had access to during that time was an emulator. Therefore if this change was put into place, it would render a large amount of work and time (almost a year of it to be exact) completely irrelevant. It wasn't a matter of using an emulator. It was a matter of putting in the hours to produce a run I could be happy with. On top of that, this is not a game that is currently dominated by emulator users. The only person who uses an emulator with a time within the top 20 of the main cup, as well as the only person with an emulator time in any other category, is myself.

Again, I will spend some time tonight an make a video comparing load times, but as of now I really don't see the logic behind a change like this.

I absolutely agree with Blitzerama. If you are still absolutely dead set on separation, put it to a poll.

I am not denying the emulator But I think that it is inequality to resemble the same place Because conditions are different I paid money to do this game, I bought a lot, reset a lot and issued my present record But in the emulator it is not necessary and resetting efficiency is better than that I think that it is better to divide this from this I just want you to let me know if only I like this

Friend I will get you a picture of my GameCube and hard copy of Mario Superstar Baseball if you think that I haven't paid for anything. I've owned this game since it's release, in fact I own multiple copies of it. I'm going to hard disagree that finances should be a barrier, let alone a distinguishing factor, between speedruns. As for the resetting, I am sorry that it takes you 20 extra seconds per run of the game.

I also think this misses the point entirely of why any other video game would have these sections separated. A game like Legend of Zelda bans emulators not because of a financial or "time for user" barriers, but rather because the loading times are significantly increased, among other things.

EDIT: Sorry, reading over this I sound like a jerk. Didn't mean for that to sound so mean. I was just tired and grumpy, so I apologize there.

Well then why are you using the emulator?

Arizona, USA

I was in college when I began speedrunning this game. I did not bring the GameCube with me when I moved, therefore I used the emulator as a replacement.

Sorry for your personal question. However, I do not think that the actual machine and the emulator are the same condition, so we recommend a different leader board. What do you think?

Arizona, USA

I personally disagree with you, however it's not up to me, it's up to the mods. I've messaged RDA on twitter and have asked him to shed some light here. If any other mods are ghosting this post and want to jump in, feel free to.

I have to agree with Blitz here. The only time financial reasons should split up a leaderboard is if spending more money nets a significant advantage (such as using an amiibo). Until there is substantial evidence that there is a clear advantage to an emulator run (load times, emulator only glitch, etc.), they should be on the same leaderboard.

I understand, thank you Blitzeramh made me feel bad I'm sorry

Ah man, I'm not out to hurt anyone's feelings. That was never my intention. It took me a lot of time to get this record, so I apologize if I came off sounding defensive.

That last thing I'd want to do is drive people away from playing a game that I enjoy. The amount of people who have posted runs in this game is amazing, and I'm really happy to see that there is a continued interest in the game. I never meant to hurt your feelings man, my apologies.

I know I’m super late to the party and that my opinion may not matter. I also don’t want to sound like I’m being a jerk. But I’m the current 2nd place runner by 15 seconds. I did a test today by starting at the exact same time as the WR run. And I would get into a load time faster then the WR run and then his screen would go to the next screen before I would finish loading. Yes it’s a small difference, but I mean it does kind of add up.. Is it possible to bring this back into discussion? I don’t wanna sound like a sore loser because that’s not who I am. But it’s frustrating. I’ve done 400+ attempts of the run and looking at that run and it definitely makes a difference. if no one else agrees that’s fine. I just wanted to put my 2 sense in there
