Reset Glitch for Any% - in depth analysis and explanation

I found out about a glitch that can save some time. I already shared an explanation of it in the Speedrun Discord but thought I‘d also share it here:

When you score the ball in a hole and reset the shot, you normally get set immediately to the next hole to go on.
However, there is a small window when the ball is scored where you dont get set to the next hole but to the same hole you just scored on and scoring in it will count as if you just scored in the next hole.
This is most likely because the parameter that makes you reset on the next shot is not updated until a few frames after the ball is scored.

This means: You score the ball for example in hole 4 and reset the shot within the first few frames, then respawn on hole 4 again, after respawning the game realizes you scored and thinks you are on hole 5. You score the ball on hole 4 which is faster than hole 5, it updates to hole 6 and you can respawn at hole 6, skipping hole 5 which is one of the slowest holes. If you try to do the reset glitch again it will just spawn you on hole 5 and think you are on hole 6, so it can only be pulled off once each hole.

As far as I know the perfect route for Any% would be:
Hole 1 -> normal skip
Hole 2 -> normal skip
Hole 3 -> normal skip
Hole 4 -> reset glitch
Hole 4.2 -> reset glitch
Hole 5.2 -> normal skip
Hole 7 -> normal skip
Hole 8 -> normal skip
Hole 9

However this "perfect route" is just theoretical and hasn't been tested or proved.






## Update

A new route has been found!
The double reset-glitch hasn't been tested yet, however doing the reset glitch on hole 7 to play it twice saves about 0.6 seconds in Any%.



The route used in the current Any% WR is:

Hole 1        -> normal
Hole 2        -> normal
Hole 3        -> normal
Hole 4        -> reset glitch
Hole 4.2/5 -> normal
Hole 6        -> normal
Hole 7        -> reset glitch
Hole 7.2/8  -> normal
Hole 9        -> finish
