Some basics about the mechanics
Updated 3 years ago by UnPigeonVoyageur

Maristice is a 3D puzzle platformer with an isometric point of view, meaning that movement is only done in diagonals. There are 2 movement settings that can be selected in the main menu.

Prologue introduces standard mechanics where one can play around to test out platforming strategies and limits.

Platform priority:

Some platforms will have their effect prioritized compared to others.

Example with the ice tiles which prevents jumping and only allows sliding on one direction until a wall, pit or death is achieved. They also have priority over poison tiles.

This depends on Marisa's positioning. It can be tough to manoeuver around at times since Marisa's ground hitbox is slightly less than a tile, so fairly big.

Jumping mechanics:

Marisa jumps one tile in height, she can pick up boxes and use them to jump another extra tile. Other items like hats can be used as well to gain that same extra tile in height but they will have to be pushed if needed instead of being picked up.

Another tile in height can be added by buffering the jump input before releasing the box. Marisa will automatically jump from the box mid-air. Only works with boxes and not consumables (hats, potions, etc...)

An advanced strategy allows her to jump one more tile in height and further but require a double input when jumping from a box on the ground. It allows jumping and picking up the box.

Knowing Marisa's hitbox allows for interesting skips using corners and ledge from tiles during a few jumps.

Potions: All potions effect last for only one room

  • Green potions let Marisa see invisible platforms. Those can be walked on without their usage, so their usage can be optional unless for learning purpose. Since runs are fairly long, it's a good thing to use them at first to help in memorizing invisible patterns.

  • Purple potions can be used to make ennemies disappear, useful in rooms to avoid waiting for forced cycles

  • Blue Potion prevent damage / death from ennemies, doesn't work on poison tiles. It allows ennemies to be jumped on if necessary to bypass some cycles.

  • Orange potions completely stops time in a room, ennemies or moving platforms will stop moving while being in the room.
