Welcome to this game! I will write up some basic information here for anyone who is interested in picking this game up. This is just to give an overview over the glitches rather than teaching the route (that you can easily grasp from watching a run).

__[big]Glitches[/big]__

**Cast Renegade Spells**

This bug allows to cast spells that you don't have. How to do it:

1. Open your spell book
2. Click once on any spell in any type of magic
3. Select a different type of magic. The type will determine which spell you get.
4. Click on the "Set Quickspell" icon.

The spells that can be used this way are:
Air --> Inferno
Water --> Fly
Earth --> Ice Blast
Spirit --> Death Blossom
Mind --> Shared Life
Body --> Psychic-Shock
Light --> Flying Fist
Dark --> Sunray
Dark Elf --> Armageddon

For speedruns, you will want to use this bug to gain access to Fly from the start.

**Alliance skip**

You do not need to form the alliance and go to Regna to complete the game. Due to a programmer's oversight, if you have the 4 elemental hearts from each of their respective planes and visit the hostel in Ravenshore where Xanthor hasn't arrived yet, you will receive the conflux key and can enter Escaton's Crystal.

**Door skip**

In places such as Escaton's Palace, you can skip past doors to complete the dungeon faster. This bug abuses the fact that the game engine loads doors/objects last. How to do it:

1. Save in front of the door you want to skip
2. Load while holding forward and the "cast spell" key. You will move slightly into the door and the spellbook will come up. Let go of forward and close the spellbook.
3. Repeat 1. and 2. until you are through.

This trick is said to behave differently depending on whether you have a slow or fast PC. On slower PCs, you could go through a door without having to rely on multiple save & reloads. But this behavior isn't well investigated.

**Cast Telekinesis through doors**

Similarly to the above glitch, this abuses the fact the game loads doors after everything else. Save in front of the door you want to telekinesis through, and load while holding the "cast spell" key on the loading screen. Select telekinesis and use it through the door. This is only really useful when done at the final door before Escaton's throne room.

**Cast Town Portal indoors / with enemies nearby**

You normally can cast Town Portal only when outdoors and when no enemies are near. But you can do it whenever, if you exit or enter a dungeon and hold the "cast spell" key on the loading screen. This can be done as an alternative to death warping, after completing the Earth or Fire planes.

**Item Click Buffer**

This bug allows you to receive any item that is lying on the floor in an indoors area / dungeon. How to do it:

1. Stand in front of an item, or throw an item before you.
2. Save the game (savegame 1)
3. Enter a dungeon where you want to get an item from the floor, save the game (savegame 2).
4. Load savegame 1, then load savegame 2. While loading savegame 2, on the loading screen, click at where the item was that you were facing (= you are buffering a click).
5. If done correctly, you will receive an item.

The item you receive depends on the no. of the item slot of the item that you buffered a click on. For speedrunning, this bug is useful because it allows you to receive the Fire heart, Earth heart and Air heart without having to go through those dungeons. 

Specifically, in order to receive the Fire, Earth and Air hearts, visit the Ravenshore library and throw an item in front of you, then save (savegame 1). Then visit a dungeon of one of the three aforementioned planes and save (savegame 2). Load savegame 1, then load savegame 2 while buffering a click on the thrown item. If done correctly, you will receive the heart. It works this way, because the item you throw in the library is the 1st item that becomes active - it occupies slot 1. And the heart in each respective plane also occupies slot 1.

**Object Buffer**

Instead of throwing items in the Ravenshore library, you can face certain wall pieces and do the same trick in order to skip having to walk to Escaton's or the Lords' rooms. The wall pieces are listed [here](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vQE2U3WzE24Y5az_StSMuaEREC_hbIThxBXadpwwqAKlVhidEi0EzNIHXvYt3ro-euDU09_5XU8FgKf/pubhtml?gid=0&single=true).

For any%, it is best you use these wall pieces (check with the sheet to see where exactly it is). Save seperate savegames while standing in front of them, and then use them when you are in the respective location to trigger them:
- Escaton's Palace, Escaton's room =  Plane of Air
- Fire Prison, Lord's room = Shadowspire
- Air Prison, Lord's room = Ironsand Desert
- Water Prison, Lord's room = Ironsand Desert
- Earth Prison, Lord's room = Ravenshore (before you get the Conflux Key)

**Exit Click Buffer**

This bug works like the above trick, except you do it on the exit of a dungeon. Like the Item Click Buffer, this only works when loading a savegame from an indoors area.

1. Save in front of the dungeon's exit (savegame 1). It has to be the exit of the same dungeon you want to do this trick in.
2. Do stuff in the dungeon
3. When you're done, save (savegame 2)
4. Load savegame 1, then load savegame 2 while buffering a click on the exit.
5. If done correctly, you can exit without having to walk back

Useful in Earth Prison and Escaton's Palace.

**Use the ingame hotkeys**

Using keys such as "Trigger" and "Exit" can speed up your gameplay. Trigger can be used to enter doors and pick up items without clicking on them. Exit can be used to close shops and dialogue screens without having to click on the Close button.

The game doesn't accept certain keys, so you might want to remap your keys (by using a registry edit tool).

any% no Cauri [Software mode]

The new glitch allows to prevent monsters in Escaton's Crystal from spawning, therefore no need for invisibility spell or high level characters.

#**Escaton's Crystal**

Initially the autosave will be out of bounds, to avoid it: make a save inside Escaton's Crystal and load it prior to the autosave. The other way is to exit with exit click buffer. 

The glitch does not remove monsters from the dungeon but prevents them from spawning, so it will only work when entering the first time, hence the need for a separate save outside.

Using H key to hire makes it slightly faster.
Re-entering the inn will automatically place the cursor on the first character in the inn.

How-tos for glitches

#Change map data (Hardware mode)
The glitch allows to change the monsters, chests and items on a map with a set of things from another.

**What it does:**
* Replaces all monsters and NPCs, uses positions from the map the monsters and NPCs arrived from
* For 2D objects such as pedestals, barrels and etc the events will be transferred from the reference map, however the initial sprites of the objects will be kept. A little example will be using a barrel and receiving 2 food instead of a stat bonus.
* The chests get replaced with the ones from the reference map. What's interesting is that if there're more chest objects on the map you transfer to then it makes it possible to access some hidden chests which replace the original ones on quest completion and such. In M&M instead of repopulating the existing chest with new items the game usually has the second chest and just swaps ids when certain condition is met.

*The glitch is present in 6-7-8 however it has different limitations and setups for each. *

**For VIII the easiest way to do it would be:**
* Run the game in hardware mode
* Visit both maps one after another (just enter and leave so that it's loaded, for some reason the game crashes in VII without that step)
* Use Fire Aura scroll in Controls menu on the map you want to transfer data to. The scroll can be taken from the Necromancer in the inn (he always has it right from the start)
* Enter the reference map with Controls menu over
* Load the autosave

After that the game will crash but suggest to autosave. The new autosave will have the effects explained above.
There are exceptions, certain map combinations will not work, mostly maps connected to Daggerwound Island.

#FMV travelling
The following glitch allows to keep position when traveling to another map. It happens if a video background which plays inside houses or entrances gets glitched out. Possibly the game treats it as the player is still indoors and is not allowed to move. 

There are many ways to "break" FMV, the most easy will be to use Fire Aura scroll when in house or dungeon entrance:
	1. Make 1 save near a map edge
	2. Enter some house and use Fire Aura scroll
	3. Load the save from step 1
	4. Cross the map edge
	5. Save the game (After saving the game the position will update and since that puts the party at a map edge it is possible to cross right away to the next map one more time)
	6. Restarting the game or starting a New Game will get rid of the video on screen.

*After the video gets glitched out, it will remain on screen. Loading saves and such will not remove it which helps the setup because that way you can break it in one save and use in another, allowing to do everything with just 1 scroll.*

After achieving the effect you will need to somehow trigger map transition, to help that you can make a save prior near some map edge for example.

If a video is in a glitched state playing any fullscreen cutscene will crash the game (such as death, intro and such).

#Using not learned spells

The glitch allows to get a spell of a similar tier granted the spell of tier is unlocked in some other school. 
**Examples:**

Wizard Eye -> Awakening
Sparks -> Ice Bolt
Feather Fall -> Poison Spray
Air Resistance -> Water Resistance

1. You need to be at respawn location (Ravenshore or Daggerwound depending on the game state)
2. The main character in the slot 1 should have a skill learned of the spell that is needed (basic level is sufficient) (1)
3. Second character (any slot) should have a spell learned of the required tier, school doesn't matter. (2)
4. Open the spellbook of (1) and select the required school, then press ESC
5. Step into the water where the party can drown, once the party started drowning take Fire Aura scroll and open the spellbook of (2)
6. Click once on the spell of a similar level as the one that is needed.
7. Once the party dies skip the cutscene. The spellbook will be still open. Click bind spell button.  

*After dying the spellbook is of (1), not (2). Right-clicking on spells reveals what they actually are, however clicking will unset the selection. There seens to be a way to select spells after dying but it only seems to work with a few. It's also possible to switch characters but that seems to unset the selection made before dying.*

#Learning skills from other characters (PC & PS2)
1. Pick up Fire Aura / Enchant Item scroll on Inventory screen
2. Switch to the Skills tab
3. Use the scroll
4. Press the Tab key to switch between the characters
The skill leveling buttons will remain on screen allowing to level the skills of the initially selected characters for the entire party granted they have skill points to assign.
That allows, for example, to give dragons magic skills.

#Break UI (PC & PS2)
1. Make sure all characters are recovering (no one is active)
2. Use Fire Aura / Enchant Item scroll
3. Select any enchantable item as a target
4. From that point there are 1-2 seconds before Enchant Item function will try to close the inventory screen. Pressing ESC key will close it earlier than intended and if it is done the Enchant Item function will try to close the inventory screen while on game screen which will not work and end up breaking UI.
The delay allows to try that effect on other screens, the time is enough to enter some house / screen and such. Traveling between maps in that state seems to crash the game.

The glitch that allows to cast not unlocked spells is present in PS2 as well.
To use it open the spellbook, select any spell using the Circle key. After that switch to any other school except fire and press Square until the voice line plays. 
The set of spells differs from the PC version.
