Before you start: it is advicable to alter the default controles to something more usefull. I kept the default settings and regret it till today ^^'. So I cannot advice on a sensible layout.

I use screenshots of the map with color-coded lines to show were to go and which path to take. Eventually you won't need those anymore, but for starting to learn the run, this can help a lot.

I thought about a textual discription on what to do, and why, but if you played the game once casual and watched a run once, it should be pretty self explanatory.

Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny speed run guide

Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny may have the most convoluted quest lines in any game ever. That whole bit with the orbs and the graveyard and the ashes, yikes. In any case, having just watched a very impressive speed run of the game (and the only one as of 2020-08-01), I'll make an attempt to run through the sequence of what one must do to finish the game as quickly as possible.

Keyboard and mouse setup is pretty important. The default keys are pretty wonky. WASD movement keys are not used by default. Take the time to set up the controls in a way that is comfortable to you. Note that there is a "Skip Conversation" key binding. Using this will allow you to skip various cinematics, both the "in-game" bits of acting and the full-motion video (FMV) segments.

As a brief digression, I'd recommend doing a playthrough and seeing the cinematics. Many of them are quite entertaining.

Also note that there is a run and a run toggle button. You'll want the run toggle on, naturally. There is also a mouselook toggle. With the toggle on, the mouse changes where you look, as you might have guessed. Toggling off allows the cursor to move around and interact with things. There is a use item keybinding that will allow you to quickly stow things you have grabbed, so you won't have to mess with opening and closing your inventory.

On to the run:

As per spec's run of 2017-02-24, time starts after the opening cinematic and load screen finishes and the first image of the cave is present.

The Caves of the Draracle

- Grab and stow the green crystal. These crystals act as a key near the end of the game. You will want three.
- Move in a northwesterly direction to an opening. There is a compass around the avatar of the game's protagonist, Luther. Pass through the opening and go right.
- Grab the a second green crystal.
- There will be two passages, one on the left blocked by a big boulder. When you go down the right passage, you will transform into one of the forms. The lizard form is faster and the ideal one at this point. I'm not sure how to always or usually turn into the lizard. I seem to be turning into the beast guy about 90+% of the time. I'll have to edit this once I have it figured out.
- Grab the third green crystal.
- Proceed over the pond and to the moveable rectangular column things. Move one of them out of the way enough to pass through and continue forward. Stay to the left as you go into a room with a bunch of fire down in a pit. You will transform at some point but as you continue forward, you will transform back into human form shortly.
- Wind around until you have a scene with Kenneth, cross the suspended bridge and pass through the doors and get to the Draracle. Skip ahead to the next location.
