This is a general guide on how to configure the game correctly for runs, as well as how to navigate its menus and additional helpful information. Portions of this guide are specific to versions running on your personal computer (emulator). Additionally, v1.30 may have different configuration steps compared to this guide, which was written for v1.26. For Test Menu options, if an option doesn’t exist, you don’t need to worry about it.
General Setup
- Create a batch file in the main directory of the installation. Open the file in Notepad and add the following text to the batch file: "left4dead2.exe -console -arcadeIO_InitializeSkip -game left4dead2 -language japanese". -arcadeIO_InitializeSkip is required on any version that is not on an official cabinet, otherwise you will be stuck on this screen. You can also add optional launch options, such as -noborder, -windowed, -height, -width, etc..
- Open the game through these launch options. Once you are past the loading screen, press the F9 button to enter Test Mode. Use the mouse to navigate, left click to select an option, and scroll wheel to adjust the value. Select "システム設定" first, and set "フリープレィ" to ON. Select "メニューに戻る", and then "はい". Next, navigate to "ゲーム設定" and ensure the options are set to "A", "OFF", and "0: none" in that order. Select "メニューに戻る" again, then "はい" if needed. Finally, select "テストモードの終了" to exit Test Mode.
Navigating
Left clicking while in attract mode will bring you to the main menu. Clicking again will bring you to a menu to select your character and gamemode. For most purposes, you don't need to go past this menu, since you can open the console of the title screen to enter commands such as "map" and "connect".
After the loading screen, you will be presented 4 characters to choose from. After selecting your character, press the yellow button on the bottom right to continue. You will be presented options to select how much SVP you want. For most purposes, you will want to select the far right one. A popup will appear after your selection. This is asking you if you want to do the tutorial. Select the left option to skip the tutorial.
On the next screen, you will see several buttons, most of which are grayed out. The only buttons that matter are the SVP button (the orange button with the plus symbol), the settings button (the purple button with the cog), the exit button (the red button with the cancel symbol), and the singleplayer button (the yellow button on the left).
The SVP button will bring you to a menu similar to the previous SVP menu, where you can add more SVP. It's recommended to max out your SVP from this menu, so that you don't get interrupted in the middle of playing.
The settings button will bring you to the same menu that you would see if you paused while in-game. From here, you can adjust various control and audio settings. The most important options are the three bars on the right side. The first one adjusts your sensitivity, the second adjusts your sound effects volume, and the third adjusts your background music volume.
The exit button will return you to the main menu and empty the rest of your SVP.
The singleplayer button will bring you to a menu where you can select your campaign. The arrows on the left side select the campaign, and the button on the bottom right will start it.
At the end of a level, you will be given a results screen, displaying various stats. To get past this screen, click the button on the bottom right three times, and then click the yellow button on the top of your screen.
QOL Improvements and Notes
-
You can adjust your sensitivity with the "sensitivity" command instead of using the settings menu. Your sensitivity will be reset to the value in the settings menu if you pause the game.
-
You can choose which character you want to use with the "avatarbasemodel <0-3>" command. This is useful if you want to choose your character while selecting levels with the "map" or "connect" commands.
-
If you run the game at a different resolution than 1920x1080, your GUI and HUD will be messed up. It's recommended to keep the game at 1920x1080.
After discussion among the mods, we've reached an agreement to make a couple of rule changes to the boards. These changes will go into effect at the posting of this news post, so please pay attention to the changes below.
- The callvote command will be banned in all categories from now on
