If anyone here is doing a run that's so long it can't be made into a single youtube upload (for example a 15 hour run), you can split the video as long as the same level is shown at the end of 1 video and the start of the next.
For example, if part 1 ends on level 330, it shows level 330 played all the way, then part 2 shows level 330 from start to finish again and then can continue from there.
For 99% of boards recording on your phone is good enough. There's a lot of free apps that you can use to link up your phone to OBS if you want a timer overlay or something, but if you don't you can just straight up record with your phone's camera. That being said, capture cards are pretty cheap these days. You can get a solid HDMI one for like $50 which would cover your switch, but unfortunately the only real way to record a DS/3DS without spending $100s on a 3ds capture card like I have is to record with your camera anyway.
You've got some pretty nice goals in mind, hope you have fun running (and most people here don't do it full time anyway, it's honestly a really fun hobby).
If you have any questions about using the site / just general questions they're likely found in the FAQs thread here: https://www.speedrun.com/speedrunning/thread/pt010
@susimper345 that's answered here in the FAQs https://www.speedrun.com/speedrunning/thread/pt010
@Jamsamamsa depends on the game. Since you're new here I'd reccomend reading through the FAQs to answer any other questions you might have. https://www.speedrun.com/speedrunning/thread/pt010
It's generally done in 99.9999999% of games, it's just @R0main felt the need to say it again in the rules for those who wouldn't know that. It's there just so we can take down runs that might not have proof in the future (let's say if a WR holder deletes their video or something, we can then take it off the boards). Also video proof allows us to find cheated runs and whatnot as well and it's generally just pretty easy for most people to do these days.
@Kkntucara I doubt most of the people that get my polls would know who either of those people are. From the post I made off your comment, only 50% of people have even spedrun before, and 30% of those people have only done it once ever.
@floxy_dude the way you get livesplits running is through OBS, if you want to record the game AND have livesplits you'd either have to hook up a camera to your PC that records your switch or just use a capture card (or edit it in in post like a psychopath)
@moneycat105 you could probably run the game through WINE on mac or you could just dual boot instead.
@AlmightyToast anything in general. Like "do you like cats or dogs more?" or even something like "who should I vote out in amongus"
@MortexLeKing29 we need proof that the run happens and it must always be publicly available without needing to sign into an account. Generally this means a recording of your game on youtube.
I'm running out of ideas for youtube polls, so if anyone's got stuff they're curious about, I could use some good questions.
