- Take at least 10 seconds off my Jazzpunk Any% time, whilst pushing for the WR in general
- Sub 1-minute on Prison 100% in Paint the Town Red
- Sub 1:40 on Biker Bar 100% in Paint the Town Red
- Arma 3 Campaign Speedruns and Routing (very general, but I want to start with trying Old Man)
- Improve my time in Proteus Any% to nearly the fixed limit
- Reclaim the Drizzlepath Any% WR
- Complete a speedrun of INCISION Any% both EP1 and EP2
- Improve my time in Sandcastle (even if just by a little bit, to claim 2nd place)
- Finally, from last year's list, claim the Original 7 Categories WR in TABS and complete the first Full-Game run ever.
Bumping to ask everyone how they did, particularly interested to hear from @SpeedRunFan2022 @ Black-Shadow @VyPr @Merl_ and @Walgrey down to their lists, but anyone else who wants to respond it'd be fun to hear about. I'll go through mine:
-
Learn Quadrilateral Cowboy I had a go, the game was very strange on my machine and without an active community I got fed up with it. I should've been more proactive and didn't manage to learn much more than the route for the introductory scene (again, as I pretty much already knew). Might come back to it again this year.
-
Secure all first 7 TABS categories by getting the Spooky campaign WR, and the Original 7 Categories WR I actually did this (indiviudally)! Mostly achieved in the Summer, and took it much further by securing the WR in every main category's 'any%' version, plus I still hold them with the exception of the RTA timing version of the Introduction campaign, if you choose to value that time more highly (I'm holding the record if we go by LRT, as of writing this post). I didn't get the full-game version, comprising the 'Original 7 Categories' because learning so many strategies which were so similar was quite tedious in itself, but I will add it to my to-do pile for this year as well.
-
Finish the keyg route sheet, which is dumb but it would be amazing if I could go through the effort Didn't go back to this at all. I realised whilst the game is a fun concept I wasn't enjoying speedrunning and routing it in any prior gameplay I'd done, so just left it.
-
Paint the Town Red - Beneath NG WR I did secure it in January this year, and held it for less than 2 weeks, then spent a lot of the year improving, before the record holder @Trident secured it more firmly each time I was close haha - very respect-worthy performance from him. I've improved a lot, and did achieve the goal in 2024 but it's a hollow victory, and I will finish the year with a silver medal.
-
The ultimate goal, which I almost certainly won't manage, is the Jazzpunk Any% record, which the same person has held for 5 years with one or two slip-ups, and it's incredibly optimised. I really tried, managed to secure second place and I could go a lot further, but I ran into demoralising problems with hardware differences and tuning the game in such a way that I'd have a good chance at the WR would've meant relearning a few things, and I pretty much left it at a good 2nd place back in September. I will continue to try this category/goal indefinitely I imagine ;)
All in all, I can comfortably give myself a 1.75/5 achieved. It's not great, but there's always next year :')
I can ask Joey to check it out via Discord, if they're not involved with the community anymore maybe they'd be willing to add someone instead of themselves to moderate it.
But I can try and help you more if you're able to send screenshots of the setup you've already done?
I don't know exactly what you've done wrong without being able to see the category editing interfaces - I assume it's creating variables instead, or creating levels obscured by a variable, so we can't see them.
GG - have been going for sub-3 myself but you've beaten me to it :D
It depends on the rules of specific leaderboards but because a lot don't make clear definitions for that line of quality it might fall to the moderators' discretion in either accepting or rejecting a run with especially poor quality video; it also might depend on the leaderboard position your run is in etc..
The site has previously (possibly current I just haven't checked) that for screen recordings 720p and upwards is a good standard to hold to, but external recordings are a bit different as you've said you wanted to do. Maybe you could record a sample of a run and ask the game moderators if it'd be acceptable in that quality?
We can see a number 7 on the levels tab but nothing is visible to us, or has been made correctly
If the moderator isn't acting on those changes yet, give them a little more time, they just haven't been online for a few days. If they still haven't responded to you/acted on changes they've agreed to after a while you can always message them outside of the website. Site admin requests demand that a moderator is offline for at least 21 days but that's for a different problem than yours; it holds a similar principle, you're welcome to contact them outside the site if they're inactive for about that long, with simpler requests like yours I'm sure you could be friendly and contact them off the site sooner/straight away to ask, just don't harass them ;)
If you have a problem with a specific part of Portal you should ideally direct it to the game's forum, or to their Discord
Sorry I don't speak Italian, but I can send a rough translation if it helps:
Su speedrun.com puoi aggiungere categorie di "livello individuale" e io suggerisco di averne una per la flotta bianca, la flotta gialla, la flotta rossa, la flotta nera, la flotta verde, la flotta blu e infine la flotta fantasma.
I found a leaderboard specifically for an old PlayStation game called SSX which I thought I was quite good at as a child, like lots of older leaderboards and forums it was attached to a larger community but it all appears to have declined https://merqurycity.com/ssxpages/mainmenu.html
Because it felt quiet I looked for another leaderboard and discovered there was one on sr.c, it was even less populated but I liked the country flags appearing next to everyone's name, and a quick search revealed lots of games I'd enjoyed as a child or more recently, and that was that.
If you think the rejection reason is unfair or that it's been misunderstood you can DM one of the site-mods through the website's messaging system. I would guess that @starsmiley looked at the request, but please remember not to hassle her (or another site mod) if you aren't getting the outcome you want.
Wondering if we might be able to have level categories for this page - usually make games more accessible to new runners and they'll hopefully provide a new competitive dimension to the game ;) Plus, with the right configuration and luck we could see levels fall in less than 10 seconds, could allow new strategies to be better documented rather than lost in failed full-game runs etc..
Incidentally, the entire Great School Breakout game forum seems to be a magnet for bots, loads and loads of threads with malicious links, don't know if the board moderators have noticed or not.
If the game takes place in one huge level and you aren't able to complete it I agree with happycamper; I'm not sure why you'd advocate for a leaderboard especially. The game may make for an interesting speedrun but from a site-moderation standpoint if even the submitter can't/doesn't want to beat it then the sensibility of a leaderboard at the current moment comes into question.
