What Reset talks about (that you drive through a cop bribe) is due to pickup cycles. The game only checks if you are inside the bribe every several frames.

That video was meant as a proof of concept, not a tutorial. It sucks as that. Also, it is obsolete, can you move the obsolete ones to the end of the post and mark them as such?

In general, there is a lot to instapasses that you cannot just learn by watching runs or unedited videos. You read about them or find them out yourself (or get told by chat).

KZ had an interesting bullshit during Driving School. In this attempt, he got a phone ring sound on the "lesson demonstration TV" after every lesson.

TL;DR if you get a phone ringing sound, make sure that it is actually a call and not just an audio bug. It should show a box with the text "press CAPS to take the call" or whatever (not guaranteed). Also, calls can only come in 15 seconds after you ended them. So you cannot get a "real" phone ring (that comes from a call rather than an audio bug) right after starting a mission.

The reason is that the game simply loads mission audio into slots and then refers to them by slot numbe r :

LOAD_MISSION_AUDIO PHONE_RING 3 WHILE NOT IS_MISSION_AUDIO_LOADED 3 WAIT 0 // one frame ENDWHILE PLAY_MISSION_AUDIO 3

Something got messed up, though. I know that the game always uses slot 3 for phone ringing sounds. So for some reason, LOAD_MISSION_AUDIO did not load the TV sound into slot 3 and the phone sound that was already loaded in the same slot was used instead. :D

Btw, the reason that KZ was stuck on om1 after the HJ cs was that since the audio system was messed up, the call got stuck loading mission audio -> you cannot hang up -> you have to cancel it like a ringing call, by shooting for example (or does that not work? get onto the bike then to cancel). FIAB = Fish In A Barrel TLDR If you are too lazy to read, try using fullscreen, maybe that fixes your problem, already. The rest are rather minor things unless you do something absurd like starting pause buffering half a second after skipping the cutscene.

You can fail by

  1. being too slow to hold it
  2. not getting the call

So the solutions are

  1. Hold the call as soon as possible once you get it.
  2. Make the call come in """faster""". a) Make "pause buffering" as effective as possible. b ) "Pause buffer" as soon as possible: Start early.

In depth 1) Holding asap Preparation: Bind a shift button (e.g. right shift) to "answer call". A mouse button should also work. All other buttons should not work. In the run: Once the phone rings, hold your button (I'll use shift). If the game is paused, unpause while still holding shift. Make sure to test this: Outside missions, wait until a call is about to come in, then pause buffer, then do as above (read from "Once the phone rings).

2a) Make pause buffering more effective i) Don't use filthy windower mods ;) , use fullscreen. It has had a dramatic effect for multiple people. iii) affinity / priority:

  • set gta_sa.exe priority to high (not real-time: [10:01 PM] Anti: really choppy audio and the mouse not working sometimes iirc)
  • set gta_sa.exe affinity to a core other than #0: Afaik, every process uses CPU #0 by default ** in general, set the core affinity of other processes to the cores that gta_sa.exe does not use - if you feel lazy, only do it for OBS and LiveSplit, those make a big difference
  • maybe even set it to all cores just for the dupe. Reset claims that that makes pause buffering unstable (cause a crash - or app hang?) - test it for yourself
  • for all this, remember to have prio installed ( resources -> ctrl-f for prio, read the description ) iv) overclocking Well, look into this yourself, maybe for your hardware there is software that allows temporarily overclocking your CPU using hotkeys.

2b) Pause buffer as soon as possible Background: In your browser go to some text field and start holding some letter. You will see that there is a delay between the first letter appearing and the second and onwards. That is called "repeat delay" in the screenshot above. In the run: Once you duped the mission, hold Esc, shortly after, press LMB (to account for the repeat delay). That way, you pause buffer ASAP. If you use some other button than LMB, test it, it might drop your Esc key and you have to start holding it again.

3) miscellaneous

  • Reset claims that looking towards the casino while pause buffering helped. I have tested it and did not find any effect. Maybe it does have an effect when there are a bunch of objects on the screen, though, who knows?

Watch this Video and notice that Reset drops the call at 00:19 and onmission is set to 0 at 0:22.

If you need an explanation/context: For the Home Coming dupe setup you are supposed to use Bike School, holding a call in the Hydra and ending it roughly 14 seconds before entering the "marker". It makes sense to think that once you stop holding the call, it should end immediately, however, there can be a delay. Therefore, you have to pay attention to the minimap - when onmission is set to 0. Only then the call is cancelled (and comes in exactly 15 seconds later).

Burning Desire If Denise loses health quickly, get to her fast and jump through the fire (extinguish it later? or do "fireproof Denise strats"?). The cutscene "saves" her.

I recommend that you do not cheat anymore. You can use the gtasa center to teleport to make testing less painful (using hotkeys to remember location and to teleport) - you might need to download some ocx files and run as admin to get it to work.

Inaccurate... Your technical knowledge is too lacking to judge what goes on behind the scenes. (I don't say it to insult you, I just tell you what I think). "wipes mission counters" [Burglary] no, replaces the loaded mission "one fail/one pass" [Cut Throat] no, one pass, one stuck -> the stuck thread executes Riot,too, when Riot is started -> two instances "if you dupe x3 it crashes" [Riot] I don't know what you did but I suppose you cheated to get x2 8-track and then started Riot? Then it is a stack issue (read the "advanced" doc linked in the first doc I linked) "threads remain when starting another mission" [forgot context] The loaded mission is overwritten. The thread remains but executes a different mission.

As most people know, CJ walks after you enter a mission "marker", so he can leave the "marker" in the process. -> You cannot dupe. So make sure to enter the "marker" in a way so that CJ cannot leave it.

Missions I know can be affected by this problem are Fish in a Barrel, Black Project, and, finally, Jizzy(cutscene mission), where you actually want him to leave.
