Wow, I never managed to complete Los Desperados. It always softlocked in the last cutscene.

4¤ desert seams problematic. Something is wrong with my game and there are no San Fierro barriers after loading a save. In proper games, the barriers are still there if you don't beat Yay Ka Boom Boom.

Based Bastant applied phone call delaying to this and I verified that it works. So you can dupe indoor missions now. Stupid me had had the same idea but gave up after the phone stopped ringing as soon as I was indoors.

You have a ringing phone during Quarry, press F1, hold tab, end the replay, go into the marker inside the interior, fail Quarry while inside the marker.

Too bad Quarry takes 3:30 min to fail. And remote flames via replay didn't work for Trucking for me so I'm skeptical.

limited The time saves I found add up to 3-4 minutes, I didn't do precise timing. I think that that's all we can do with this method but that might turn out to be wrong.

I found a way to start any story line mission twice (not more) by getting the onmission flag to 0 while having a phone call and standing inside the mission marker. The mission sets onmission to 1 again but 2s or so later the phone call that was cancelled due to onmission being 0 sets onmission to 0 again - that's my hypothesis.

There's been some heat due to lack of video in combination with an incomplete explanation, so have this. I used a teleporter mod.

To accomplish that, you need the Trucking or Quarry mission. First you start one of those and a phone call at the same time, then you stand in the storyline mission marker, then you fail Trucking or Quarry.

With the Quarry mission you just get out of a vehicle into the marker so that the call starts right after standing still in the marker. This is already known. For Trucking you need a different method since the Trucking trigger is only checked every 250 ms and therefore most of the time you get the call before Trucking has a chance to start. The method is: you trigger Trucking shortly before the call comes in. After it is triggered, the onmission flag is still 0 for ~0.6s after that. You can extend that by a whole lot by pause buffering after Trucking has been triggered. Details at the very end of the post.

Uses: Since the game uses counters ( if woozie_total_passed_missions = 3 then start Amphibious Assault ) and having two instances of a mission adds two to the counter, you can dupe one mission and thereby skip the mission following the duped mission (long known). I found these uses: Dupe Ran Fa Li after Snail Trail to skip Lure and the insanely long drive back to SF that mission would make you do. Jizzy > T-Bone > Mike Toreno > Mountain Cloud Boys > Outrider > Snail Trail > Ran Fa Li > Ice Cold Killa > ... Dupe High Jack after Monster to skip Interdiction. This saves only little time.

And now I have to shock you... 4¤ LV and desert hype! Well, probably not worth it... Segmented run anyone? The third use is duping Toreno's Last Flight. Unlocking Monster requires 10 passed syndicate missions. The tenth one, Yay-Ka Boom Boom requires 5 passed Woozie missions. Duping Toreno therefore not only skips Yay-Ka Boom Boom but it also skips all Woozie missions. The problem is that you need to pass Yay-Ka Boom Boom to not have the SWAT on your tail for 1:15 hours of LV and Desert missions (passing Saint Mark's ends the horror). I timed ~16.5 minutes saved in SF (by doing my own timings and using the WR) and 8 minutes lost in LV was the result of me guessing or timing the major time losses in LV ( 1) no helis since they get shot down; 2) detours to save points that are outside interiors to use the fraction of a second of zero stars after saving for phone calls and wasted warps; 3) detours to the country side for phone calls). So if you are good enough to not lose 8.5 minutes to all the "minor" problems in LV due to 4¤ for 1:15h, that's ~7s of losses per minute, then this is your new route. Maybe it is 10s per minute, I didn't time things properly. It would be hell for the runners but fun for the viewers, probably. But probably it will turn out to be slower.

The Truth's call that creates the optional TT marker for AYGTSF sets the max wanted level to 5. If you never take it, you can get the Patriot outside missions with 4 stars. Missions that use "set max wanted level" set it back to 4 again, not 5. Interdiction sets it to 6.

Edit: Do you have to take that call because it is "in tge way" otherwise?

Replays have nothing to do with the way OBS records the gameplay. They are an in-game feature that allow you to watch the last few seconds of game-play. So don't let that rule confuse you. :) They can also be saved and played back with F3, hence the "name" "f3 replays". When you play a replay, then the cars appearing in it are more likely to spawn in the "real world" some time after that. The "replays have to be recorded earlier in your run" means that you can't record a replay that is full of sports vehicles before the run starts and use that every time you need a fast vehicle.

Nope, the destination is over-ridden by the fare's destination.

GermanyPatrick_9 years ago

This is not useful, yet, but if it is understood or people test a lot, it might become useful.

This is what I did, in detail - alternatively, watch the video and notice how I start Taxi Driver during Taxi Driver

launch the japanese version which I modded with American text (probably works in all versions) load save save point start taxi driver start taxi driver again without cancelling the first instance (it only shows the "taxi driver" text and nothing more seams to happen) get out of taxi to cancel taxi driver vigilante start taxi driver

Now I get a destination immediately after starting the mission. It is always the cop station in Washington Beach but if you are in the same zone (probably that is what is about) then you get a random destination. The fare counter is only increased by one when I reach it, though. The police station is near the Malibu club and at the edge of the zone it is in so that the club is outside it but it is still too slow - iirc I times 35s with a Cabbie, that would take 35¤100 = 3500 ~ 60min. Feel free to time again with optimal execution and the Zebra Cab.

When I save and load after "double-starting" taxi and then vigilante start Taxi Driver, the instance with the police station destination fails and iirc the other one doesn't increment the fare counter.

Does not work.

You need to go through all the triggers in order for the end trigger to be active.

Disclaimer: no guarantee that this still works and whether the part about chrome works for this site.

In chrome you can hopefully just type speedrun.comTABmario into the address bar after having searched once. you can tab earlier, no need to type it fully. "Speedrun.com" is called the "keyword", it can be changed by going to the settings and searching for "search engines" there. Manual setup (Firefox/chrome): right click into search bar, "add search engine", enter keyword, in this example: sr Now you can type sr mario into the address bar (chrome needs a tab after "sr")

GermanyPatrick_9 years ago

Is this a new idea? F2, start with F3, end with F1 so that you can start it with F3 immediately after. In VC, you can end F1 replays with F3, in III that only works with F3 replays...

http://www.prnwatch.com/prio/ this saves you from having to set the affinity setting every time. You still set it via the Task Manager, but prio saves it in the background. MisterPost has also said the game has never crashed on him with this setting, I don't know more about it.

Thanks. :) The conversion process was a good reading lesson. I overlooked the lack of an opening quotation mark for the marker names. :D It didn't give me syntax error messages. :( Edit: Why didn't I use the JavaScript console? DansGame

Edit: Good that you recommended the alternative mapping software. I seam to have messed up the wikiGTA map. Their coordinates seam to go from 0-767 instead of -3000 to +3000 and I must have messed up the conversion formula...

GermanyPatrick_9 years ago

I heard about a trucking destinations doc. Can you link it please and what else is there?

This might be useful for export routing discussions for non-runners (Powdi and Gael) (only one destination near the airport :( but many near Hashbury^^ / barely anything near the Patriot spawn...). It took half an hour I guess, I keep overestimating my computer skills. :D

Yes, desert taxi is possible, it is a pain, though. :D They keep asking me to go to LV.

I didn't create this by hand, I copied the coordinates and stuff.

Update for traffic lights: I analyzed the traffic lights on the way to the hotel.

Results:

  • Synchronization: All North to South traffic lights are in sync (every light "shows" the same colour as the others). --- The same applies to West/East traffic lights.
  • 12.0sec shift: West/East lights "show" green 12.0 seconds after the North/East ones --> when one light turns green, the light for the other direction turns red at the same moment. Btw, when one light turns red, the other light is going to turn red in ~9s.

The traffic light I used in my first post is a West/East one and I used turning green as a reference. Most lights on the way to the valet car park are North/South ones and it is easier to "witness" a green to red change. So using North/South lights turning red is better.

Explained again: when you see a North/South light change from green to red, then location 2 is ideal for the next 9s. After that, location 3 for the next 18s, etc. Table:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/q2ew20gis9p90vy/table.png?raw=1 link to image

When you "witness" a light turning green, that means the other light turned red at the same time, so look at the opposite column of the table.

@house Party grenade fence: If you tap D in the same rhythm you tap sprint, then the angle at which you run should have you end up left directly next to the fence when it gets bright again and then you are near enough to the marker to almost make it there until the mission is passed. -> I think that this grenade should be used somewhere else.

@vertical Bird: Omega did a 8s or so mistake in the comparison so this is slower. The flying strategy is very hard, though, so I don't know what is better. I mainly wanted to point out the mistake. I am going to use this strat though, so thanks. :)

Nice "solid time save". :D

@High Noon: one despawn area is roughly around Pulaski's body so you can't get much closer than this.

After Black Project, you can push the Sanchez like this (front wheel left to the hut): https://www.dropbox.com/s/2hwdts5rgbn5wck/after_black_project_push.png?dl=1

shoot at your bike(a bit)/friends(a lot) during Doberman/Nines and AKs/end of Just Business to get pistol skill for Gangster level, which is useful for Small Town Bank and Freefall (firing rate, accuracy). Unless pause buffering strats get more consistent.

1/2) There was a misunderstanding. The looking positions aren't required for the re-spawn. But without looking at those places, he spawns miles away and once he has re-spawned, he never re-spawns again. The "right" location is the one where he has to wait for traffic lights the least.

  1. I know they move sometimes/always/whatever. I don't know much about that since I push them so far that they are always far from home as the waiting for D.A. part starts.

Edit: Demo:

The variables at the bottom: Notice how fast the valet values change to 3 (requirement is: not equal to 2). Right after, he re-spawns.

You should therefore be looking at the "right" place right from the beginning. != x means: has to not be x for the re-spawn

Update: I'll call the thing in front of the valets "parking space". It is in-between these two CJs ^^ https://www.dropbox.com/s/uk5hjmspo20n7dy/555_parking_space_corner1.png?raw=1 https://www.dropbox.com/s/98a3ckm6dobn3ml/555_parking_space_corner2.png?raw=1

Short version: Park a car into the parking space to fool the game past a delay of the D.A. re-spawn that Rockstar put in there. For it to work, it can't be a taxi/Cabbie, Bobcat, bike, or cop car [incomplete, but should be enough].

There is one thing that Rockstar tries to delay the D.A. re-spawn with: As you trigger the "wait for D.A." marker, if there is no "customer" on the way or already parked in the parking space, then the D.A. re-spawn is blocked until a customer has parked there. And afaik, unless you park your car inside the underground garage when killing the valet, no customers ever spawn until triggering that marker.

The R¤ way of testing the latter ("already parked") condition is checking if there is any car inside the parking space, so you just put your own in there.

It can't be a taxi/Cabbie, Bobcat, bike, or cop car [incomplete, but should be enough]. The parking space is kept clean of them. [ They are either annihalated if they are outside of your view or stolen by magically appearing car thieves if you are looking at them. ]
