Nice, you definetely will get a sub 45 run soon if things go well. About your run and general:
-
In missions where you have to kill some amount of assassins you spawn them quicker if you run in the direction against the traffic on the street.
-
Final Job: They usually show up very quickly when you are on the road, should just drive them over if you are in a car already.
Because Kubelwagon mentioned it, I searched for the car stats file I did 5 years ago. The test was made on a selfmade map and includes all cars one can drive in GTA2.

Cars with light red background can only be found in Multiplayer. green text = best value, red = worst. t1, t2, t3 are times(secs) for the 3 checkpoints of the test track. XYsp are the times(secs) the car needed to reach a speed of XY. dmg is the amount of damage the car can sustain, in number of rocket launcher hits it takes to destroy the car. + or - means if you would shoot it with a Machine Gun f.e., it can take more or less shots. max_sp is the real maximum speed of the car (not all numbers in the handling file correspond to real speed). acc_t is the time(secs) the car needs to reach its maximum speed.
I would also add that if they stand at the traffic light you shouldn´t go close ahead of the car because it will otherwise start to flee no matter if the traffic light is red. I used to just trigger the bomb when I was a bit behind the car and then quickly drive a bit infront and block the car by parking it one car width in front of it and quickly get out.
@outtakes: Things similiar to the medicar happened to me with some garages in the past, annoying as hell. I once had a Mission complete and fail at once (just one or two frames between them) in Armored Car Clash, I got busted while the second car exploded. That was weird because I got the money reward for the mission and I could still redo the mission. xD Another rare event was a bouncing Molotov which doesn´t explode, happened to me only three times in my whole "career" playing this game. Too bad i don´t have recordings of this.
Yeah I don´t do it because I have the Scientist car which is the fastest there and I have to destroy them anyway in that mission.
About the skip: :It´s a matter of practise I guess, I got it 6 times in a row once in practise and normally probably around 60%. Too bad I completely messed it up in my run, I pressed right when i held the handbrake, that mistake killed the sub 1h. :(
I had the run estimated at 1:20h too at first, but when I started doing attempts it turned out to be much faster to my surprise. Now it looks more like a 58 minute run. And heh that car it was a gift from heaven, good my reflexes didn´t fail on me. xD
Also now that I think about it, why didnt I just go to the Z-Village for Zaibatsu cars at first red Redneck mission, they spawn in masses there, also I could have shot some Zaibatsu for at least -2Scientist respect and again driven over the big bridge and jump to the red phones... damn. lol
Here some little tutorial on the "Penal Ties" skip:
1.) Get a fast car from a parking lot and get inside the prison. (Hold "handbrake" button while you are on the part which throws you back and only press other buttons to navigate after you let go) http://i.imgflip.com/bo76h.gif
2.) Park the car about here and die with Molotovs/Rocket Launcher.
3.) After you start mission and get inside the prison, take the car across the stairs to this point and leave the prison. http://i.imgflip.com/bo7a9.gif
Noticed this safe (and obvious) way of leaving the prison just now, after some practising.
Also tested if it really is faster to teleport with Wang Car #2. I got a time of about 40 secs driving with the police car from the red phone to the Benson, while teleporting should be 10-15 secs faster if you get a good car immediately. So this is definitely worth it even if you get a slow car.
- I have to disagree with SWAT Van and Ambulance being luck. :p
About getting SWAT Van during "Follow That Traitor": I tested this idea back during my 100% routing and it proved to be a bit annoying because of the cops bothering you constantly. Maybe standing at a safer point like at the train station and watching the guy going in would of worked out better.
Another similiar idea i had but never tested is switching some missions so that Happy Gas Smash is after Follow That Traitor which would mean having more time to get the Ice Cream Van reducing RNG.
Doesn´t look too bad besides those few mistakes. The Ice Cream Van spawned i think about 50% of the time for me, so you dont particularly need insane luck to get one straight away.
Also maybe the different routes should be moved to the Guides section to have them not scathered around the place.
So that the opened All Missions category won´t be too empty i´m gonna post the 43:46 run too since i couldnt get a better run so far and i dont know when i will attempt it again.

Finally finished a run without mission fails, in 1:02:14. The first half up until "Murder In The Mall" was amazing, but then everything went bad. Note the game glitches out on the "Final Job", it doesnt show any messages.

Accidently picked up Shotgun by driving over Rednecks in "Granpa We Love U" mission and not noticing it until it was too late, wasting half a minute. Then failied to get a car into the prison which meant doing "Penal Ties" regularly, losing over a minute. Also got the Z-Type damaged and needed to change it, wasting another half minute and derping around before and on the way in "Penal Ties" which probably was another 30s lost. And additionaly got bad luck with tank road block spawns in "Tanks-Giving", so I took the safe route, wasting another 20s.
Congrats on the sub 50 PB at least, really want to see your route in action.
I had some nice runs going with the best one being a 14:09 Loonies part and exactly 1 minute ahead of my 43min PB after "Big Bank Job", but "Armored Car Clash" has ruined all of them so far. Also made some attempts in Residential, the furthest was dieing in "Penal Ties" jumping down from the prison to the ramp, being on 59min or 1h pace. Man those runs are a pain in the ass to get. :P
Hehe nice, keep it going. My times went from 57-56-54-50-48-45 to 43:46 mins just few hours ago. =)
Some comparison to my previous run:
- I got very good RNG on "Armored Car Clash" and could suicide on the last car which also saved me time on "Wheeler-Dealing", a total 1:35 mins.
- Applying the new idea of getting wanted level after "Yutes Must Die" gained 25 secs.
- Lost 20 secs in "Big Bank Job" because I got the van earlier and tried to go the risky way back which i came from.
- Lost 30 secs in "Bank Van Theft" because the rocket launcher guy managed to hit the van once.
- Lost 30 secs because I couldn´t find the Ice Cream Van right away. Rest of the time safe was due to better driving and execution.
Loonies part was done in 14:48 to previously (15:01), Zaibatsu 19:09 (20:29), Yakuza 9:49 (10:19). With the big time losses I think a 42:xx seems like a very good goal now, 41:xx probably possible in a godlike run.
Might as well post some time references for Residential:
I have Zaibatsu + Scientist missions mixed up which should take about 40 mins, maybe less and Redneck missions + finishing level around 19 or 20 mins, so in total a little below 1h, if everything works out.
If you got 26-27 minutes for those missions it´s not bad at all, you probably just screwed up Zaibatsu missions or didn´t know some shortcuts. My general estimates are 15 min for Loonies, 20 mins for Zaibatsu and 10 mins for Yakuza + finishing level. And a very good run should be a high 43 mins if RNG plays along.
I have the raw recording of the run, so I guess I can upload it somewhere on Dropbox. Didn´t want to put in on youtube since I screwed up my route a little and lost tons of time.

Sounds interesting, nice to have some alternative routes here. :D
The idea of getting the wanted level for the SWAT Van on the way looks like a good idea for my route too actually. I think switching mission order to something like Get Zitzaki > SWAT Van Swipe > Stop The Tank > Get Gama Rei > Follow That Traitor > Bank Robbery > Happy Gas Smash looks good.
Do you casually stream your attempts too btw?
I tested the skip and counted about 12-15 car swaps while doing the missions in order and the car still was there. Cars from traffic usually despawn, are you sure it was a car from a parking lot?
The skip is actually still the hardest part of the run, unfortunately. If you fail getting the car inside the prison, it will waste more time retrying it than just do it the regular way. Also getting the car outside is not so easy too, especially the jump down to the ramp.
Another thing what i learned from my 100% run is that shooting gang members for respect wastes a whole lot of time. In Downtown and Industrial it is probably best to just complete all missions for each gang in sequence and only kill gang members for respect two times. In Residential the Zaibatsu and Scientist missions fit quite well together and you shouldn´t ever have the need to get outside your car and waste time shooting gang members. If necessary it can be all done on the way driving them over or during a timed mission.
Btw if you start with the the top green Redneck mission, there´s a trick to get the Z-Type at the start. Wait until the Redneck has shot down the Scientist and then immediately run left to the street. Don´t forget to jump because the Z-Man will try to drive over the Redneck.
Here is the route for Industrial:
Russian Mafia part
- (green right) Mmm, Russian Sailors: Kill Zaibatsu when collecting the third guy until Russian respect +3, collect flamethrower on the highway before last guy. Lure a Cop Car to the docks.
- (yellow top) Officer Down: Flamethrower is a safe strat for SWAT and FBI. Try to get a cop car or a car with 4 seats after mission.
- (yellow top) Tanks A Lot: Collect Invisibility.
- (red) Vedic Massacre: Get full Zaibatsu respect while shooting Krishna inside the Vedic Temple and stay at safe spot for the rest of mission. (Getting in car or leave temple while the timer runs is mission failed).
- (red) Super Grass Rescue: Get cop car at the police station on the way if you don´t have one already. Destroy generators with rockets after going up first stairs, don´t run all the way to the generators.
- (yellow bottom) Karma Assassins: Spawn killers by running against traffic, make sure that after the mission Zaibatsu respect is at least +4.
- (green left) Hot Dog Homicide: You might shoot a few Russians after picking up phone or in the mission before to avoid mad Krishnas with Flamethrowers and Molotovs later on!
Krishna part 15. (yellow left) Cossack Conversion: Ignore all guards and just go straight to the truck. After collecting the workers use the ramp to the right as shortcut. 16. (yellow right) Sunbeam Contract: Go to Russian territory and spawn killers by running against traffic as usual and get blinking -5 respect so the last killers show up. 17. (green bottom) Cop Car Scrap: Get a Cop Car after crane collected last Cop Car. Drive to the red phone while the crane does its job. 18. (red) Rooftop Rescue: Take the ramp as shortcut after leaving the Vedic Temple and go straight to the rooftops. Don´t follow the captives and kill the 4 guards straight away, maybe with Molotovs as safe strat. 19. (yellow) Conversion Evasion: Take the parked Karma Bus from the yellow phones and leave it at the entrance later at Zaibatsu grounds. Run straight through, not minding the tanks, and get up the platform to the right. From there shoot every generator with rocket launcher or molotovs and kill the guards. Get the Karma Bus and finish the mission. 20. (red) Power Station: When at the station, you might switch to the parked Bulwark. After mission completed, deathwarp with Molotovs and take the Medicar from the hospital up north. 21. (green top) Deconstruction Yard: Switch to the parked Stinger on the way to pick up the mission. Deathwarp immediately after mission completed, take the Medicar from the hospital and arm the car with mines and vehicle machine guns at the shop in the south. 22. Final Job: Note: This mission starts 22 seconds after you finish the last gang mission. Drive over Jerkov and Sunbeam or kill them with the mines or vehicle machine guns. Uno Carb usually spawns at a specific spot on the pavement to the right not far away from the exit point, when you drive up north on the highway. If you are quick you should be able to drive him over or shoot him before he can even launch his rockets.
Good to know, lol. Just tried some stuff, lists and tables don´t seem to work.. or I do something wrong again, but nevermind those.
About IL Leaderboards: I tested them by submitting some of my runs and for whatever reason the submissions are already displayed if you click on IL Leaderboard. On single levels the old run is still displayed though as it should be.
Also ms would be nice for all any% ILs since they are all very short runs in old school GTAs.
