@Kyle: If every guy who currently is the active runner of an established category would have the right to bend the rules as he pleases, the result would be a bunch of runs with uncomparable different rule sets unified under the same category. This is a mess and that´s why already established rules should stay unless there is a really good reason to change them.
^ u mad? )
@Gael: There are old glitchless runs, which would be probably added if a new category is opened. But yeah for now no new categories, until more runs of those get done.
So, over a week has passed and we have 3-2 in favour of option 1, but I´m the only active runner of the game who has voted here.. lol.
Don´t know what to do, guess a new category will wait then until some sufficient number of people actually do some runs and then decide. :P
Option 2 is just without the EE-glitch, I thought it was obvious. And option 1 is without any glitches. :p
I vote for option 1.
This poll concerns only those who are running GTA2 or are "seriously" interested in running GTA2. Because the EE glitch breaks the game completely, some people asked for a possible new category, so here the two options:
1.) There should be a new category any% glitchless ILs
2.) There should be a new category any% EE-glitchless ILs
I use the same version then. It has the problem with kill frenzies on trailers though, which corrupts the savegame when saving after completion of those.
The EE glitch was performed successfully in a run in Residential and Industrial so far. Some guy proved with a TAS that it is also possible in Downtown. So when someone manages to do that, it will make sense to open up a glitchless category. Or if there are enough people willing to do any glitchless runs, although no one bothered yet, because there aren´t many runners anyway.
Then, the respawning Wang Cars in Residential which give you 100k$, which is normally supposed to be achieved when you collect all 8 Wang Cars is a glitch too, so WordOfWind hasn´t done a glitchless run to my knowledge yet.
Also there is already a topic about this question, but I don´t know how to move this there. I have only the ability to move it to a certain forum not to a certain topic, it seems.
Edit: Also what version do you have, because in the unofficially patched version 11.something the Wang Car Bonus glitch is fixed.
Most cars stop from max speed in like 1-2 tiles and in about 1 second, so it doesn´t matter that much. Note that each map is 255x255 tiles big.
Btw about the max speeds, I also measured some speeds in tiles per second (tps) using coordinates:
Schmidt - 5.8 tps Beamer - 11.5 tps Shark - 10.94 tps M.Roadster - 11.2 tps Hachura - 12.1 tps Ped - 1.9 tps Tank - 3.03 tps
With this the speed of the character is roughly 62 - 63.
Never noticed that this game is listed here. Whatever, I discovered a glitch over a year ago and a few skips, so I might as well post them here in case someone wants to try this game.
Little time saver in Babylon with the rolling glitch:
And a cutscene skip with the same glitch:
Some possible shortcuts it the Tian Shan River level:
A major skip which skips a lot of the Palawan Volcano level:
Another major skip in King Sol's Mines:
There is also some more info in this topic on SDA: http://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/indiana_jones_and_the_infernal_machine_23.html
Furthermore Goggen did a segmented run of some levels, but the first level was done in one segment, so it might be included on the leaderboards. Edit: of course on Doctor Jones difficulty. ))
^Are you serious? xD
Btw Is there an overview of already submitted games somewhere? Would be interesting to see...
Thanks for fixing. I used them, because this is how it usually works on other forums. There is nothing indicating me what to use, not even a little menu or something.
Seriously, F U C K these edit options... they are worthless. :/
So I managed to complete a run in 57:22, although failed to do the new strats, which I updated in the first post. It was very ugly, but because some things went well the time is still somewhat acceptable.
Major time losses were failing to get the Furore GT to the prison entrance, which costed me 15 secs because i was late for the next mission. Getting the car to the prison entrance also would avoid the need to get a Z-Type in the "Greatest Hits" mission, which costed me 40 seconds extra. Also would safe 5-10 seconds getting the Furore GT after "Blow Job" and the time wasted to get Rocket Launcher in "Tanks Giving". Without those mistakes a 55 min. run looks very possible with the new optimizations.
About the "Penal Ties" skip... you can actually make it pretty easy if you park the car at the entrance outside of the prison instead and then in the mission, running on foot through the prison roofs and jump down.. lol.
This spares you the hard part, getting the car into the prison. It is 15 seconds slower, but you may gain time from not killing yourself. Good that obvious things come pretty late.
Reason I asked is because I want to know if people are keen on sticking to the Wang Car strats which are the most run strats on Residential any% despite there being that EE glitch.
I´m personally not in favor for too arbitrary categories like "no EE glitch" so I see "glitchless" being without any kind of glitches as well. Resurrection of tank strats haha. :D
I forgot to add that I was talking about ILs and not doing a complete run in one go. There is probably more chance to get struck by lightning than getting the EE glitch done in all areas in one run. lol
About Wang Cars: You can see it in the any% run of Kubelwagon. Taking a Wang Car, then saving and reloading respawns the same car. And when you enter it it gives you the bonus (100k$ and some cars with weapons) which you normally are supposed to get after collecting all 8 Wang Cars.
Now that Wormetti (aka Sektor) has made a proof video that the EE glitch is also definetely possible in Downtown,
it might be a good idea to seperate glitched from non glitched runs from now on.
My suggestion would be to create a new leaderboard for glitchless runs as soon as someone gets the glitched run done in Downtown without tool assistance. What you do you think about it (to those few runners who run/ran/want to run it lol)?
Another question would be if the respawning Wang Car Bonus cars should be considered a glitch or not then?
^ grathargor is the only GTA Advance runner and is known in the community. As for old school GTAs i run them, but I can´t stream in a watchable quality because of internet. The person above you could have done a run but didnt. I saw posts of Greenalink in this forum so he could have posted anywhere here in the sections.
Lack of runners or contact is not the problem, it´s more like a lack of interest of those who could have done some. Nevertheless it was a well organized event with no schedule problems, which was very nice.
