I updated the rules and added the IL board. I think sticking with 'any% ending at the final credits' makes sense for the time being, since it is more convenient to discount one level afterwards in case a majority agrees with leaving out Peru than having runs being invalid if this rule prevails and people only run 16 levels. Any more ideas and suggestions?

Yes you can, but you don´t get the credits which mark the end of the game, if you complete it before Aetherium. When you buy the map then you get the credits in Aetherium, if not, then in Peru.

From story standpoint it makes sense, but the problem with skipping Peru is you would skip content and end even though the game isn´t over yet. The credits don´t roll in Aetherium either if you don´t buy the map for Peru. About difficulty I agree, but maybe someone wants a challenge, so leaving a variable for difficulties like in the Half-Life boards wouldn´t hurt. Another things I forgot about ILs:

1.) imo ILs should be viewed from a standalone point of view, which means only anything from start to until the box that appears at the end is of importance. So for example in Pudovkin level you can finish it without getting Azerims part and move on to next level, but you will miss that part and you will get stuck in Meroe. In a full game run a problem, but not in an IL with this definition.

2.) ILs should be run without autosave since it is easily abusable (easy to edit out failed attempts). Maybe having an extra board for segmented runs is the solution here. Although I don´t have a clue how to deal with it in full-game runs, it kinda sucks... Another idea would be to give some sort of time penalties for using it, I´m not sure here.

And the "Glitchless" category... not necessary for now i think unless someone wants to do it. Even then glitchless what? any%, 100%, ILs? btw this is only about PC version, I dont have a single clue about N64. Heck i even just found out there is a GBC version of this game..

Don´t think so, i just looked up their profiles, one guy got mod two months ago by saying no one verified his run which he submitted, yet there is still not a single run on the leaderbords with him as mod... lol. Also might be one guy with two accounts, both have same video on their youtube channels.

@Racingmonster: I actually just read the topic name and assumed I should ask here, since I never asked for mod before, but OK it is cleared up for me. About no level runs connected to me, well the IL leaderboard kinda disappeared, but i remember there being one when i first posted in the forums of that game (it was empty though).

I think for ILs you don´t need to get the Azerim part since you can always replay levels after you complete it once. For full game any% you would need it though.

Here a suggestion about the rules:

1.) I don´t know the N64 version, but from looking at some videos and reading the gamefaq here: https://www.gamefaqs.com/n64/914232-indiana-jones-and-the-infernal-machine/faqs/60011 it would make sense to have seperate leaderboards for each version.

2.) The PC version has six difficulty settings: Very Easy, Easy, Intermediate, Hard, Very Hard, Doctor Jones (translated from German, not sure what they are called in the English version). The changes among these difficulty settings is mainly the damage you can take from enemies, so having a leaderboard for each difficulty seems to be too much, also considering that the game doesn´t have any runners yet, lol. I think having a variable for the used difficutly would suffice here.

3.) The current any% rules state: "Timing starts as soon as you gain control of Indiana Jones. Timing ends as soon as you lay the final blow to the final demon girl boss." Don´t know about N64, but the PC version ends after level 17, which can be either "Aetherium" if you buy the secret map before or "Return to Peru" if you don´t buy it. Also the game doesn´t end when you kill the fused Marduk, you have still to escape.

4.) Another point is you can´t skip cutscenes and they can be everywhere, at the start, in the middle and at the end of a level. A level starts normally when the loading screen disappears and ends when the IQ box appears showing your results of the level. To have have a consistent timing and because some recording software doesn´t record the IQ box, I suggest to change starting timing to when the scene starts to fade in after the loading screen and end when the scene faded out before the IQ box appears. For the full game any% it probably is enough to end when the credits start rolling after last level, but that happens after the last custscene fades out anyway.

Reason: I actually did play this game a few years back and found some glitches and strats, so I have some knowledge about it. Also now another person appeared who is interested in the game and found some stuff and I did a run now for some level, so it is time to refresh that section. :)

Some of the stuff is already known, but still good to have it on video (not sure why you have the videos on private though). And the chalk glitch is amazing, saves a ton of time, so good job finding that. Btw do you havy any intentions to do some runs or stream?

About too hard for any%, there are always individual level runs, so anything might be feasible in it, please record. ;) And the last part you are talking about, I never encountered that, but would save a lot of time in some levels if you can go back to normal state without commands.

You definetely should record and post your findings here. I also played with the 64 bit installer, but Goggen, the guy who did runs years ago could reproduce the glitches on his system too, so there shouldn´t be any noticable differences.

Just the new update, based on Nukulars run and some little additions:

  • Grab a fast car at the start, drop by the Russian HQ and get -4 Russian respect, also if possible some wanted level so that you might grab a cop car while you are killing for respect

  • Go to the green Krishna phones and get wanted lvl 2 on the way, take the lower phone

  • Lure two cop cars to the crane, so that you have all three that are needed there and shoot a few Krishna to get Zaibatsu to at least +2

  • Head to the yellow Krishna phones when the crane starts pulling the last cop car, you might pick up the machine gun next to the ramp on the way if needed

  • grab the yellow phone to the right (the Russians provide possible machine gun ammo too)

  • after completing the mission go to the Zaibatsu crusher located in the west by following the highway

  • do the EEs with the car and there are two cop bribes nearby which are faster than respray, but might screw you with spawning road blocks

Also question to @Nukular, how do you do the quick camera twitching?

@moderators here for this game, the any% rules are not really correct as you get automatically to the bonus level after completing the "Aetherium" level. Complete all 17 levels would make more sense for any% and timing should end when the IQ infobox appears since cutscenes can´t be skipped. Btw are you even planning on doing some runs for this game and if yes what platform on?

Updated the first post with some new routes I came up with, also with some images. Should be slightly faster than the one we had (displayed in the images as route C), but not necessarily easier. ) Also got a 4:29 with route A, but couldn´t do a stair jump on the last part because of traffic which costed me 10 seconds.

Depends on how many people want to run the now old route.

I would go for option A and wait a couple more weeks to observe if the interest for the old route becomes extinct. If it does, then rip the old route as it is an analogy to the assets category.

Some optimizations i "stole" and combined from WordofWind ideas:

  • Use the Electro Gun from the "Tanks A Lot!" mission for EEs later. You won´t need to collect extra machine gun ammo and it is safe as you can´t really lose a ped combo. But you will need 9 EEs instead of 8 with machine gun, which is no loss because Electro Gun is more reliable and probably even faster anyway.

  • get Zaibatsu respect to at least +3 in teh Vedic Temple (you can use the machine gun, as not much ammo is required for EEs, only a bit for gathering)

  • "new" EE strats: instead of running down the long path to gather peds, stand just below the road-end near the EE spot and move camera up and down (three times?) to spawn some peds while shooting one machine gun bullet to scare them into the corner when the camera goes back to normal. Then run down to the right and shoot a few more bullets to gather the rest, then switch to Electro Gun while running towards the "EE" corner and zap the poor basterds. If you are lucky you can get three EEs before you get wanted lvl 4 and need to respray (also park your car not far away and on the left side, so that the crane won´t take it). With perfect luck you should only need to respray twice, saving 30 secs. (Police bribes sometimes don´t reset road blocks which seems to affect ped spawns, so respraying the car is probably more reliable.)

Compared to the method before this saved about 1:30 min on the EE part (~5:45 min to ~4:15) in my runs.

There don´t seem to exist any particular rules. But I think as for the timing it should start when the loading screen is done and stop when the score screen appears since you can`t skip cutscenes. One could make categories for different difficulties.
