I've figured it out. You played on speed 2, which is faster and also banned in the rules. There is a 3 page locked forum about how the faster speed shouldnt be allowed and now the first place run uses it? An explanation would be appreciated
Genesis controllers work on Atari 2600s. It’s the same controller port. You can google it
I used a genesis controller so there wouldn’t be any problems with a joystick. In the first place video you can see multiple spots where several frames are lost (around the last few turns especially) which are not present in my run. Watching the two videos side by side you can see a clear discrepancy in speeds
That means that people who play on emulator have an unfair advantage over the original game
Can someone please explain how the first place run is an entire second faster than my 5.840? It's the same maze and the same route so it doesn't make sense that its so much faster. Is there something I'm missing or is the emulator used inaccurate to the original system? Any explanation is appreciated

Well i guess i should clear this up. The 30:10 run brandonjja and I did a few months back was done on brandonjja's modded wii and not played on an official disk. We were not aware of the discrepancies between the version we were playing on and the official disk. I took the run down but it is still up on my channel if anyone would like to see it. My own solo runs are done on an official disk and if brandonjja and I ever do another co-op we will be sure to play on the official disk going forward. We're sorry for wasting everyones time and promise that things like this won't happen in the future

We now have an official leader board for VS. Duck Hunt! https://www.speedrun.com/VS._Duck_Hunt (The arcade version of duck hunt)
All the current duck hunt moderators are welcome to mod this one too, just let me know. As of today there is only one category on the board so Im differently open to suggestions and I can
t wait to see the runs we come up with

I've tried 3 different NES repros and none of them were accurate enough for them to be a fair and valid for a competitive leaderboard. There might be a certain repro that that is accurate but I haven't found one. Im pretty sure kosmic used to play on a repro cart but I could be wrong. At the end of the day I found it easier to just keep a close look on eBay for a cheap disk system
As far as I found, the positioning is random. I have tried time after time writing down their spawn point and direction and I’ve found no consistency.
If RNG is in your favour, you’ll end round 1 with a time of 34 seconds. If you do what sYn said and guess their position and shoot them before the get over the grass, you can get a 33 second round 1. I call this method the “early bird”
Early bird isn’t too hard (you just need to get lucky) but it’s very uncommon for it to be fast enough plus the luck of the RNG. If there’s interest I can explain some of my methods like early birding and how to hold the zapper and stuff like that. I can answer any other questions anyone may have too
I can confirm that this does not work on console. I tested both snes and genesis. I’ll make another post if I find a way to pull it off
Thank you for your responses. I’m glad that this is allowed. And I definitely agree, this game deserves more runners
At this point, NES emulators have become extremely accurate at recreating the original hardware. However, with games like Duck Hunt and other zapper games, the is no way to accurately emulate a zapper. This means that the only way to play the game is to use a mouse. There is a great difference between aiming a gun and shooting at a CRT tv and clicking the screen with a mouse, its pretty much a different game at that point. So, instead of banning the use of emulators, I think it would be best to create two sub categories. I think we should have one category for Nes and one called EMU. (I'd include the WIIVC in the NES category since there are very few runs. You can see the Super Mario 64 leaderboard if you don't understand what I mean. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

I've been playing this game on a repro cart for a while and I've started doing some speedrun practice and some unimpressive times. I was just wondering if this was allowed on the leaderboard before I put anymore time into learning it. Any input is appreciated, thank you
i was honestly just playing around and i wasn't trying do do any glitch. I'm assuming it is similar to the veggie glitch. Someone with some tas skills should look into pulling this off
While messing around in 1-1 off camera, I managed to take a red shy guy through a door with me. I picked one up and double jumped up to the door and I threw it and picked it back up while the screens were changing . I don’t know if anyone else has done this and I don’t remember seeing it in any TAS. I’m sure this could provide a time save somewhere. Any input is appreciated
I was pretty sure it was the text. Thanks for the help
Hey, I've been looking at running MMX and I noticed that nearly all runs were on the Super Famicom. I'm assuming that its because Super Famicom runs faster but I was just wondering how much faster it is and in what way it is faster. Thanks
