I liked the idea of Any% Coinless and did a stinky beginner route Wrong warp run of it :D

I also did one without Wrong warp to spice it up. (somehow got coinless with 3 HANDS)

Category: All Inventory Items

Goal: Obtain at least 1 of every possible item that you can collect in your inventory. Use the items at will. Defeat Bowser. I did this run with No Wrong Warp. Could allow 7-1 Wrong Warp and make it similar to All Forts, where Mods can note if Wrong Warp is used in World 7. Or keep it NWW. I will let the Mod team decide!

Category proposal: Wet Socks%

This proposed category extension was conjured up by Metalliholisti; and the strats/routing were a collaborative effort between myself, bagler, MaCobra, Metalli, among others. The idea is to touch the water in all LEVELS and FORTRESSES which have water throughout the game (not EVERY SINGLE body of water; at least ONE per level) and COMPLETE the level/fortress. W3 hammer bro water fight and canoe are NOT required (need the hammer obtained in W3 to make W4 go faster; and the hammer bro water fight is an RNG element). Warp whistles are allowed. 7-1 wrong warp is NOT allowed (considering for the future to maybe allow it).

Time starts when pressing start on the title screen; time ends on the first frame of fade-to-black after the Boom-Boom fight in 8-Navy (since there's no more water after 8-Navy; we don't feel the rest of W8 is necessary).

Levels and Fortresses which contain water are 1-5; 2-2; 2-4; 2-5; All of W3 except for 3-6 and 3-7; 4-1; 4-2; 4-4; 5-1; 5-2; 5-4; 6-2; 6-6; 6-8; 6-9; 7-2; 7-4; 8-Navy.

This run is an example of the route you would take to achieve this. It can be very much improved upon; but it's a good baseline to get the idea of how to approach it. W4 has the worst RNG since the P-wing from the hammer bro fight you would need to obtain for level 5-1 (unless you're an absolute gigachad and want to go for secretest). You could gamble and skip W2 box and hope you skip the star bro in W3 (runaway bro is actually good here...lol).

Slight route change. Getting the W4 P-Wing bro is an RNG mess; so we keep fire and play out 3-5 and take the W1 P-Wing to 5-1 instead. Knocked off another 34 seconds. This was an invalid run since I didn't dip in 4-2. Finished it out to get a baseline for this routing. I screenshotted these then wiped it out so I can try again.

Made some routing mistakes but did ok on most of the wet sock strats I think

Hello! I'm not a speedrunner for Mario 3, but last year I came up with a challenge run that could be a fun and challenging speedrun. I'm glad this thread exists because I didn't want to just post a new thread with this idea.

No running% warpless, any, or 100. I call it "Jumpman 3" because that's basically all you're allowed to do.

Last year I did any% and warpless for "Mar10" day just to prove that it's possible to beat the game without running. Shortly after that, I figured out that actually you can beat all levels without running, just that some levels are very precise or require specific items.

So this year I streamed Jumpman 3 doing 100% and chopped the vod up to show all levels completed successfully. This year it took me over 6 hours without having done any practice since last year, but this is counting all the mistakes and game overs.

That's probably why I would prefer to run any% or warpless because in the event of a game over, it'd be harder to verify when a player has completed 100% of the levels, unless in the rules for 100% it could be stated that game overs result in a reset timer.

I do have other concerns for what the rules would be, since I know that when you jump as Mario then hold the fire button, you get a further jump, but you also move faster, so I disqualified myself from using that. There are situations where you might have to fire while jumping, and in those events, it should obviously be allowed to only press B without holding.

This run would require an input display to be on for that reason. Otherwise the P-bar can indicate if somebody is holding B down anyway.

There is one stage, I think castle #2 world 7 where you can't make the first jump onto the pipe without the hold B jump option, if you don't have a leaf. So my opinion on allowing this method or not is split.

Lastly the only time I allow myself to do any running at all is from slides. Since you're not technically running, and the P speed isn't increasing, I think it fits within the rule's restrictions.

New CE proposal - All P Switches

Goal: Activate every P Switch in the game. You must activate the P Switch (or Switches) and then beat the level for it to count. Beat Bowser

I think this run can get down to 50:0x, or maybe even sub 50 with great execution/RNG. I hope you guys find this category idea interesting! This run was alot of fun to route and play.

Since Wet Socks% became a regular CE right away, can the three current Misc. CEs (Beat Bowser, Nice%, All Special Icons) be promoted, since they all have at least 5 verified runs?

It didn't get a regular CE category right away; I just didn't put it in MISC so more people could see it. Plus, this time I used the News feature—I try my best to make sure people see the new ideas. Beat Bowser, Nice%, and All Special Icons didn't reach the required threshold in time, and we were already considering removing them from the board entirely.

Were the other mods consulted before they were removed? If you're referring to the 3 month duration in the first post, I'm pretty sure All Special Icons in particular still qualified....Regardless though, I didn't know they were on the chopping block cause you all decided to just now enforce that rule...the runs were already there, I don't see why they couldn't have just been grandfathered in.

I want to clarify a misunderstanding regarding recent decisions on the CE board. First and foremost, no decisions are made by a single person. This is a community-driven project. However, discussions about category additions and removals can take a long time because not everyone responds immediately.

The CE board is still a work in progress, and we have included several community members in discussions. In this case, my role was primarily to ensure that discussions moved forward when responses were slow.

Regarding the three miscellaneous categories, Beat Bowser and Nice% were ultimately removed because, after a thorough discussion, we agreed they should have been taken down earlier. All Special Icons was initially considered for removal but has now been reinstated.

Our goal is always to make decisions that benefit the community as a whole. Everyone’s input is valued equally, and we aim to avoid the issues seen on other CE boards.
