I have a few IRL friends with accounts here and would like to be notified when they submit a new run, would a follow user button become available in the future, similar to how we can follow games atm?
It COULD be available in the future but most likely not.
If we had a user follow system, I wouldn't need to follow 200 games. I am completely for not having any form of public stat for follower/following count, but this feature would make it significantly easier to track competitions between small groups of users, instead of following the games that they run to get this info.
I'd like to follow some friends so I can see what runs they're doing even if I'm not talking to them. That is to say, it has a valid use case.
Following users has been requested loads of times, apparently it was rejected by site staff before but has had a probably more recently
if anything they should fix following series first
Series also act as a game, you can add categories to them https://www.speedrun.com/hypixel/full_game
I've suggested it quite a few times and I still do wish it got added in the next big update.
People would be competing for having the most followers and the site would become a glorified social media site.
It already got transformed by Elo into a social media site though, especially now that they added Supporter to the site. People are farming everything the site keeps track of, from records and runs to forum posts and even liked comments by a certain individual who just so happens to be in this thread as well. The people who farm these will keep doing it as it's not even against the rules, so adding followers will benefit those who use the site as intended as well as the farmers by giving them one more count that they can rise and brag about.
even liked comments by a certain individual who just so happens to be in this thread as well
Meπ
The people who farm these will keep doing it
No, since no one is even keeping track of or cares about given likes now
No, since no one is even keeping track of or cares about given likes now
By "these" I meant everything else besides likes comments, and well you definitely did care about given likes if you took your time to bot 10k likes given. With that aside, while you are probably the only one who cared enough to bot likes, farming posts and runs and even WRs is much more popular on this website, therefore I can see a big set of users trying to farm followers once it gets added to the site.
