Confused about emulator rules and other questions

Hey runners!

I'm kinda confused about the emulator part of the rules which states:

"All emulator submissions must be done on Bizhawk 2.8.x or higher using the SNES9x Core, with the following displayed: FPS, FrameCounter, Input, Subtitles, Status Bar, Messages. All can be found under the "View" tab. All other settings to remain default. Each attempt must begin with a core reset (CTRL+R by default), and it must be included in the submitted video."

I've watched some runs and never saw FPS, FrameCounter, Inputs, etc. shown, nor do I believe that everyone's using Bizhawk.

So my questions are:

  • Do I have to show those parameters when people who got WR didn't show them? (I'd prefer not to view them as they'd block my field of view and wouldn't be pretty for streaming.)
  • Is it okay to use the SNES9X 1.60? If not is it okay to use the Nintendo Switch Version? (I've seen someone here did this already for Any%)
  • Are there any guides, tips and glitches collected besides the ones here somewhere which would help me (especially for something like "Max Ranch Master Rating")?

I'd love to run "Marriage%" on the long term. I even consider running someday "Max Ranch Master Rating" if it's possible to run in ~30 hours.

Thanks for the help in advance! :)

Hi, the current emulator rules were instituted in November 2021, so any emu runs from before then probably don't have all of the proper information displayed. The NSO version is currently allowed, but flagged as "SNES emu", and may be banned/removed in the future since the NSO version isn't a permanent download like Wii and WiiU, and may have faster loads and/or less lag. There's some loose notes in the HMSR Discord server ( https://discord.gg/3F8kzWc ), but no real guides since there's several different strategies that would give you similar times; one isn't definitively better than the others.

Thanks for the answer!

Okay, that all makes now sense to me! Just to be safe, since I don't want to have an unvalid run in the future: Do I understand that correctly, that the SNES9x 1.60 is allowed as my choice for the emulator? I'd prefer emulator over NSO and the SNES9x over Bizhawk.

And can the SNES9x 1.60 view the following things since I never had to use those (are they even really necessary): Subtitles, Status Bar, Messages

Thanks again, have a nice day! :)

No, the only allowed emulator is Bizhawk:

All emulator submissions must be done on Bizhawk 2.8.x or higher using the SNES9x Core, with the following displayed: FPS, FrameCounter, Input, Subtitles, Status Bar, Messages. All can be found under the "View" tab. All other settings to remain default. Each attempt must begin with a core reset (CTRL+R by default), and it must be included in the submitted video.

The reason for this is to make sure the runs can be accurately compared to other runs.

Alright, thought SNES9x would be valid because of the mentioning of the SNES9x Core, too bad.

Thanks again! If I have further questions in the future I'll come back to this thread :)
