These guides will guide (sigh) you from the very start to the credits of the GameBoy Color game Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite.



There is no glitch, no OOB (*out-of-bound*, when you go outside of the map), it is a really easy game to speedrun as its core mechanic is simply picking the right choice to progress further. There is little to no RNG (*random number generator*, self-explanatory) (sunflower seed drops can vary), so it is easy to get consistent and improve your PB (*personnal best*, your best time). Runs are usually shorter than an hour, with the current WR (*world record*, self-explanatory) is 42m 31s by loerie.

It can be run on any language, though the Japanese version has less characters per dialogue, and so is slightly faster than any other language. For this reason, and as I myself am not fluent in Japanese, this guide will refer to the dialogue menu as a grid. The right column of choices will be referred as A, and the left column as B. The lines will be referred as 1, 2, 3, ...

[A1] is green, [A2] is blue, [B1] is purple and [B2] is brown



For example, the guide will tell you to:

- [A2] the right side of the tree
- [B2] on the opening right of Bijou
- [B3] on Bijou
This mean you will need to:
- face the right side of the tree and select the choice on the left column, 2nd line
- move to face the grass opening at the right of Bijou and select the choice on the right column, 2nd line
- go back to Bijou and select the choice on the left column, 3rd line

framerate is low because it's a big gif, the game runs more smoothly

## Controls:

**Arrows:** move Hamtaro, move in any menu

**A:** open the dialogue menu, confirm a selection in any menu, interact with some specific events

**B:** closes any menu, hold to run

**Start:** open the main menu

**Select:** ??? idr but it's not needed for the speedrun for sure



## Some tips:

- GameBoy Color cartridges are *not region-locked*, you can play any GameBoy Color game on any device supporting it (GameBoy Color, GameBoy Advance, SuperGameBoy, GameBoy Player...) unlike most other physical medias
- **Hold B** to leave the Hamctionnary screen
- **Hold A** to speed up the Collection screen
- **Hold B** to leave the Items screen
- **Hold B** while mashing A to speed up dialogues
- **Hold B** to run
- **Do not step on the rock or the ice path** as you will trip if you do so (Sunflower Park and Sunflower Market maps) (banana peels have the same effect, but you need to step on some of them to finish the game)

Go to the clubhouse

Finish boss's tutorial, selecting the correct hamchat when needed
When finished, go to Acorn Shrine

Go east, see Bijou and then (Scoochie) up the tree in the center of the screen to get an acorn.
Go east and (Tack-Q) the right side of the large tree to drop an acorn, (Hif-Hif) to collect it.
Go east then north and (Hif-Hif) the flower to learn Coochie-Q.
Go north and (Tack-Q) the tree to drop the hamster and learn Oopsie.
Go north then west and (Hif-Hif) the shaking grass to learn Delichu, then say (Yep-P) to trade an acorn for 20 sunflower seeds. Go east then west and trade for 20 more seeds.
Go west then north and (Tack-Q) the right side of the tree to get Bijou out.
(Dig-Dig) on the opening right of her to get a shiny rock.
Use (Oopsie) on Bijou to learn Thank-Q and get her to the clubhouse.

Maxwell

Exit Bijou's room and go out south, then go through the red door on your left and go to Acorn Shrine.

Go east, east, north and (Tack-Q) the wall under the ladybug to lower the rope.
Climb the rope and talk to the green hamster. After, follow the green hamster west and learn Nopibloo.
Go back east and go down the rope, and go north to the dirt patch and (Dig-Dig) to get 5 seeds.
Go north under the wood and to the grey wall north, (Tack-Q) the left side to drop seeds, (Hif-Hif) to collect 10 seeds.
Go west and (Tack-Q) the wall under the broken part 2 times to open a hole in the roof.
Walk under the hole in the roof and (Ham-ha) to get Maxwell to drop down.
Use (Nopibloo) on Maxwell to learn Bizzaroo and get him to the clubhouse.

Oxnard

Exit Maxwell's room and go out south, then go through the red door on your left and go to Sunflower Park.

Go north, east, south, east (CAREFUL FOR THE ROCK!), east and use (Dig-Dig) on the hole to learn ChukChuk.
Go west, west, north and talk to Oxnard, then (Dig-Dig) the dirt patch south of him. Then (ChukChuk) on Oxnard to learn Gasp-P and get him back to the clubhouse.

Paschmina

Exit Oxnard's room and go out south, then go through the red door on your left and go to Sunflower Park.

Go north, east, south, east (CAREFUL FOR THE ROCK), south and use (Hif-Hif) on the hamster in the flower patch (south).
Use (Koochie-Q) on the same hamster to learn Hammo and get a cucumber.
Go north then east and (Scoochie) the 2nd pillar to lose Paschmina's scarf, then go west to return to the pillars.
Go up the 1st pillar with (Scoochie) to get to the crow, and use (Gasp-P) to get Paschmina's scarf back. Say (Go-P) to him and then go back down the pillars.
(Scoochie) up the 2nd pillar to give Paschmina her scarf back and get her back to the clubhouse.

Exit Paschmina's room and go out south, then go through the red door on your left and go to Ruins.

Go east then south and say (Yep-P) to Cappy.
Go east and (Tack-Q) the clock face to release the dancer, say (Koochie-Q) to the dancer to learn Ta-Dah.
Climb up the lamp cord and go east then north. (Tuggie) the plug on the bottom right corner of the pool to release the water.
Go north and talk to the frog, say (Hammo) to get Penelope back to clubhouse and learn Bye-Q and Wait-Q.

Cappy

Exit Penelope's room and go out south, then go through the red door on your left and go to Ruins.

Go east then south, and (Tack-Q) the TV button (far right button) 3 times to drop 3 sinks.
Talk to the frog and say (Bestest), then (Hif-Hif) to get the frog badge.
(Tack-Q) the TV button one more time, then go north and talk to the fallen hamster to learn Pooie.
Go south, east, east and learn Panic-Q, then go up the ladder and talk to the hamster by the crank to learn Hark-Q. Say (Yep-P) to him.
Go up to the elevator and go up the top floor.
Go west and talk to the scared hamster, then (Tack-Q) the post he's clinging to learn Nopookie.
Climb up the post and go east to talk to the picnicing family. Use (Hif-Hif) when prompted, then (Pooie) to learn Soak-Q.
(Dig-Dig) on the revealed hole, then go east to see Cappy.
Use (Tack-Q) on Cappy to get him to move, then talk to the hamster at the counter. Say (Yep-P) to play Tack-Q Bowling.
ASAP, one after the other, hit the center, then the right, then the left to get 190 pts and win the headdress.
Say (No-P) to quit after.
Use (Ta-Dah) on Cappy to give him the hat and learn Blissie, then get him back to the clubhouse.

Dexter/Howdy

Exit Cappy's room and go out south, then go through the red door on your left and go to Sunflower Market.

Climb up the string holding the newspapers together and go east twice. Approach the two arguing hamsters.
Go east, east, and then climb up the right icicle to get to Dexter. Say (Hammo) to learn Hamspar.
Go down the icicle and west, west, south, south, west, west, west, and (Scoochie) on the electric scanner to climb up. Use (Dig-Dig) on Howdy to learn minglie.
Go south, see the scene, then go back up the scanner cord with (Scoochie) and use (Gasp-P) on Howdy.
Go south, east, east, east, north and talk to the merchant. Say (Yep-P) and pick the heat patch to get him to move.
Go north, east, east and see the scene. After, use (PakaPaka) on the icicle.
Go west, west, west, west, and go down the string on the newspaper, then up the little platform next to the bike. Use (Tack-Q) on the bike then (Tuggie) on the string to get the bag.
Go back up the newspaper string and go east, east, then talk to the green eared hamster to learn Wondachu and get a newsflash.
Go east, east, and talk to Howdy.
Go west, west, south, see the scene, then talk to the merchant. Say (Yep-P), then buy the heat patch.
Go north, east, east, and try to go up the icicle to get both Dexter and Howdy back to the clubhouse.

Panda

Exit Dexter's room and go west and out south, then go through the red door on your left and go to Sunflower Elementary.

Approach the dog and talk to him. After, (Tack-Q) him to learn hamchu.
Go north, north, and (Tack-Q) the center of the right shelf to drop some seeds, (Hif-Hif) to get 10 seeds.
Go north, east, east, north, and (Tack-Q) the north sleeping hamster (pink). After, say (Oopsie).
(Hif-Hif) on the bananas to pick them up, then talk to the west sleeping hamster (grey) and say (Bestest) when promted to learn Huffpuff.
Go south, west, west, south, and then (Scoochie) up the left shelf cord. Buy the fish-bottle with (Yep-P).
Go south, north, west, north, east, east, east, north, and talk to the blue hamster to learn Wishie.
Climb up the computer cord and (Stickie) the pink computer to turn it on, then walk left to use the computer. Click on the hamster to go to Hamtaro.com then click on hamtaro to learn smoochie.
Go down the cord and south, west, west, west, north, west, north, then go up the ladder and talk to Panda to get him back to the clubhouse.

Jingle

Use (Wishie) on Panda to learn Whawha and fix your bottle.
Go down the ladder and south, east, north, west, north, and climb up the broom handle. Talk to the white hamster with the vest pattern, then (Huffpuff) on him to get the flower tea and learn hotchu.
Go down the broom handle and south, east, north, east, east, east, north and talk to the north pink hamster. Go south, then north and climb up the cartons where the pink hamster was to get to the yard. Approach Jingle and say (Pooie) when prompted to learn clapclap.
Use (Smoochie) on Jingle to get him back to the clubhouse.

Exit Jingle's room and go east and out south, then go through the red door on your left and go to Sky Garden.

(Scoochie) up the nearest vine, then (Tack-Q) to fall off.
Go west and talk to the Ukikibanana to give him your bananas, then go south and north and step on the banana peel. Use (Dig-Dig) on the pipe opening.
Go east, east, south, and talk to the white hamster to learn Hamtast.
Go north and (Scoochie) up the tree, then go around and down the steps and north, north, west, west, south, south, and talk to the hamster in the golf hole. Say (Bizzarroo) to him to learn Spiffie.
Go north and slip on the banana peel, then say (Spiffie) to the brown hamster to learn hamteam.
Go north, east, and talk to the pink eared hamster. Say (Hamtast) to her.
Go east and say (Wishie) to the bartender, then buy the strawberry juice. When the bartender is gone, (Tuggie) on the plug to unplug it.
Go south, south, west, north, and talk to Sandy. Say (Tuggie) to her, then (Lookie) to learn Hulahula.
Go south, and say (Hamteam) to Sandy. 
Go east, north, north, west, west, south, south, and east to learn Nogo and get Stan and Sandy back to the clubhouse.
