Trying to keep up with everybody in here, but I can't respond to all of you at once so I'm really sorry.
I'm reading all of your feedback and bringing it to the developers, i really appreciate it
Resource links changed, so the old ones I've used in rules or forum posts no longer work. This also happened with the previous major site-update and I had to go fix all the links I had posted. Would be nice if the old links also worked so we don't have to go through every single guide or forum post to change links with every update.
The Verifier role doesn't have the ability to retime a pending run anymore? Surely that's not correct, otherwise whats the point in the role at all?
The Most Comments Likes Given and Received have been removed from our profiles as a stat!!
Please add some of these old stats back! For example, the last online date
It seems like this option is turned on for all boards by default now. (At least, it was turned on for all the boards I moderate. From other mods I asked it was also on for their boards). Seems a bit risky seeing as how a lot of communities still like to have runs from mods be verified by other mods.
Main feedback from me is:
-
Bring back Day Mode. Some people, like me, need a lighter theme due to suffering pretty badly from conditions with vision that cause major palinopsia. Dark mode is pretty uncomfortable to use for me when reading/dealing with typing at all. An argument against this is just to use a theme, but why make an extra step for something with an update that makes users constantly toggle saved themes?
-
History is a good feature. Perhaps an extension of it could be moderators inserting pivotal points in the games history within it too. What date certain tricks were found and first implemented, stuff like that.
-
Some cover art is massively cropped now. Final Fantasy is a good example of a series being brutally affected by this.
-
If following users is going to become a thing and be more personal, why not add following specific categories for games also, instead of having to follow entire games if you only want to follow 1 category?
-
Please add additional video fields that cater to runs greater than 12 hours, and cannot be fit into one video/field.
-
Info pages are now gone, so it's no longer possible to know if a Mod is inactive or not. Adding a 'last online:' to a user's page would solve that.
To go with some things that I believe haven't been mentioned yet. The sorting of runs on your profile is kinda silly now. Rather than using the predetermined order by the moderators, it goes with the most recent run.
See below that the levels are all in a funky order. I don't mind having a most recent run option, but there should be a way to sort by the standard way (or maybe I'm just missing it.
In another racing game I run there used to be several levels, with a best lap and race record existing below it. WIth the restructuring of the leaderboards those are now completely mixed together. A way to once again group them would be nice (along with the sorting I mentioned before this). See below what mean. Near the bottom those "Dinarli" records now have one between them as they're no longer grouped and sorted by date.
Overall I think the new design has potential, some parts look really clean. They just needs tweaks to some things first.
Please give us the option to be able to view all the users who have liked our posts again, rather than just collapsing them into "and [number] others like this"
We should be able to add people, remove people, and rename a group chat
The WR history of DOOM (2016) is borked. Only shows 4 runs from 4 days after release in which the fastest run is 00m00s.
Thats very fast.
^ Also doesn't look like you can even leave a group DM, and you can add anyone. Unless I'm misunderstanding, there should be a confirmation from the user who is 'added' that they want to join before they're put into the DM.
In case anyone still hasn't realised the obvious obvious flaws of this new UI...
- Can't see full names, box art format won't match a lot of game covers, can't see all games at once
- IL leaderboards not letting you view multiple categories at once, forces you to click a lot more to view the times, completely ruining the point of IL boards
- Followed game page doesn't show the game name on the second line. Plus with how they butchered the cover art, i was struggling a lot in searching for games on the second line. (inb4 they'll respond with "just use the scroll bar to scroll down and view the names...")
When creating forum posts, the X button is not pressable, in order to dismiss the dialog.
Could we please have a tab on users profiles to see series and games they moderate?
I'm going to copy my exact comments from the last layout change with respect to subcategories, as the majority of issues with them have not been fixed and in fact have only been made worse. Small credit where it's due, the extremely longstanding bug with the wrong category being selected on submitting to a subcategory has been fixed, and top level categories all show, but...
As mentioned in multiple forum threads, the change to how large amounts of categories are displayed is a huge step back for leaderboard usability. I'll be using 2 boards as my examples, the Witness Randomizer, and Ape Escape category extensions. https://www.speedrun.com/the_witness_randomizer https://www.speedrun.com/aece
To start, The Witness Randomizer is structured so that there are different randomizers as the main categories, and then specific types of run as subcategories. This is the only sensible way to structure it for comparisons, and there are 4 subcategories for each. There's plenty of space to display 4+ subcategories, and yet for some reason all of them are hidden behind a tiny drop-down. This is a problem- perhaps some games are better served by this, but having an override to "show all categories" in multiple rows would be a huge improvement. Or dynamically show as many as possible- in any case, this is top level important information that should not be hidden.
Ape Escape category extensions is even worse- again, it's divided by game and then category within a game, and it's very hard to sort through what categories are even there. The information should be visible. Make it visible.
My only other complaint is another longstanding decision - in the mod hub, it's probably better to show the date of the oldest submitted run for a game, rather than the most recent.
Imma add my thoughts on the overall look on the site as well as voice some of my opinions on this update
1 the overall look for the games is nice but when looking in the series you have to go to the games tab to view them when originally you didnt have to i have no idea why this was changed I much prefer the previous look really
2 In my opinion the mod hub seems TOO simplified even though I welcome the ability to assign runs to other moderators but I do not like the new look of the moderation hub
3 Having a recent runs menu on the game leaderboards was nice for people to see what runs are fairly recent to the leaderboards was a very nice thing to have idk why its been removed that gave some people the ability to be able to see some newly verified runs added to the leaderboards if they wanted to check them out
4 please bring back runners stats on their profiles was a very nice way to view how many hours a speedrunner has got in submitted runs across all the different games they have ran
5 To be honest the size of the game banner is just a little too big and I really prefered the old look where it was same size as the leaderboards and the game stats was next to it
that's some of my main issues however there's some things i like about this update and that's being
1 Viewing the games actually shows the box art set for that game in the followed games tab and its nice it is neatly at the top of the screen when opened
2 as much as i dislike some thigs about the leaderboards like the drop down menu placement for IL runs the cleanliness of the leaderboards is actually not that bad and I welcome the addition of the little icon that shows if there is splits attached via a splits.io link
3 the overall UI looks nice and clean a little too simple but yea it seems nice from my POV depending what it is though
Overall I have mixed opinions on the new update a lot of things in the previous one felt so much better than this one but yea I'm stubborn witch change and this update to me I a little too much done too soon and some things are too simplified but that's my opinion take it with a grain of salt
