I've seen speedrunners with split timers. I found a split timer and put it somewhere, but it needs a file to be able to automatically record when certain things happen.
I know people have done this, but I don't know how to do it, and I don't know where to look.
Sorry, I should have been more specific about contacting the community for the game on this site.
Every game has it's own forums (like the one @Pear posted above), and some games have things like discord servers where you can discuss topics with them as well. All game specific questions should go to those places, because the other runners of the game are much better equipped to help than us regular users are.

I didn't know where to look, and the first response I got here was no better than "look elsewhere". If there are specific google search terms I should use, or a specific link to another forum, that would have been useful. I had googled speed run timer splits, and after a while of clicking on links that didn't give me anything useful, I reached out here.
Most people who aren't familiar with the site and how it's laid out end up on these mains forums as well, so it's not an uncommon thing. The site could definitely do better with a user guide or something along those lines to instruct new users how the site works and is laid out, but for now, most people who use these general forums just redirect users with questions to the appropriate place.
