I'm primarily aiming to speedrun ps2 games, but I don't have a capture card, nor do I know very much about electronics and stuff. So I don't want to shell out all that money for stuff that goes so over my head. So I want to record in either one of two ways: I point my phone camera at the tv and use my laptop to time it; or, I find an app for my phone with a built-in timer and just point that at the tv. Is either of these methods generally allowed for submitting runs? I don't see it outright disallowed in any of the games I want to speedrun, but I just want to make sure.
You could also take the time to learn stuff about "what you need", capture card related. It's not too bad!
But, pointing a camera at your screen and uploading that is pretty fine, as long as you take an effort into making it look good. For example, this is a prime example of another PS2 game that is totally fine: https://www.speedrun.com/dkcr/run/z1o2967m

@Riekelt Thanks! I'm planning to just use the methods I described until I can get a proper capture card. I haven't found a good timer app yet, so the other method will suffice. For runs that use an in-game timer, I won't have to worry about timing. But for runs that require RTA, I'll see if I can find just a regular timer to use. If I have to include splits in my timing, I'll find one on my laptop.
