Livesplit not starting

I downloaded livesplit 1.8.15 and everything went fine until I tried to start it. I clicked on the file and this message pops up every time

This application requires one of the following versions of the .NET Framework: .NETFramework, Version=v4.6.1

Do you want to install this .NET Framework now?

I honestly have no clue what to do now.

LiveSplit is a Windows C# application, so in order to run it, you’ll need at least a runtime version of the .NET framework for Windows.

So what you need to do now is exactly what LiveSplit is telling you to do - install version 4.6.1 or newer (I believe it’s up around 4.8 right now) of the .NET framework. A simple google search will provide you with the appropriate Microsoft page to make the download.

I think you can download the required .NET framework straight from the LiveSplit popup question, with no need to download it directly from microsoft.

Oh, that’s even easier then. I’ve always had it installed so I never got that pop up and wasn’t sure how it worked.

I have clicked on the button that leads your to the install page and there are two options of .NET Framework. could someone tell me which one to download

I'm pretty sure you only need the .NET Framework Runtime (not the Developer Pack). I assume those are the two links you're seeing on the page you're taken to.

Just saw this and downloaded the latest version of .NET Framework Runtime and it is still not working, this is where I got stuck before and I thought i was doing something wrong. Sorry if im being a bit stupid i just dont know anything about computers, speedrunning just looked really fun.

If you’re still getting the same message then try installing the developer pack. I honestly didn’t know which was required for LiveSplit so I took a guess. I always have the developer pack installed on my machine so I’ve never dealt with the prompt before.
