Hey guys, I'm about to start streaming/speedrunning, and it's been hard to find out how to get started online (I have like 0 twitch experience, and only have a PS3 and computer lol). Here's what I know I need so far:
1)Capture Card for PS3 2)Split Software
I heard that there was a "speedrunning" license you needed, and don't know if that was a troll or a real thing, so please help explain that to me.
Overall, I want to know the cheapest way to broadcast speedruns. Please explain it to me like you're explaining it to your grandparents.
Thanks guys! Jk
Can't help with a capture card, I have no experience of them. Split software runs on your PC, and several pieces of software can be found on the Resources page. www.speedrun.com/resources For streaming you will need some broadcasting software. Some of these can be found on the resources page too. OBS has more tool support, however can be unstable at times, sometimes crashing or losing sound/image from a capture card. XSplit is much more reliable, but has a bit less tools than OBS, though has been catching up in the most needed and used tech tools.
No, you don't need a speedrunning licence, however if you use XSplit and gain a Twitch Partnership, you will need to purchase a commercial copy, but that would likely be a long way off anyway.
If you get into speedrunning, a useful item to purchase may be a USB footpedal, which can be used to split rather than pressing a key on the keyboard, allowing for more precise splitting while not running a PC game.
I would suggest taking a browse through the thread posts here: http://www.speedrun.com/Streaming/forum which allot of people have already asked similar questions, you can read through the ones that interest you and see what help people have already offered and also what questions were answered already. Everything to get going should be there withing the first few pages of threads to read. It's a learning process and also should be a fun one as well, anyways Good Luck with it. <3
