But i still think as you can also solo most of the raid content it also makes sense to add it to the Individual Level leaderboards.

With this layout it is nicely sorted and accesable and you can even (if it is possible add the respective game banners instead of just the name) i think

Hi,

Kind of new here, but I had this idea and was wondering if we could get it added.

Basically it's a new character run through the 1st part of the MSQ until you board the airship for the 1st time. Rules would be simple. Time starts as soon as you have control of your character, time ends when you board the airship for the 1st time and the cutscene starts to play. And by 1st time, I mean the very 1st time, where you get the extended take off of the airship cutscene and everyone runs out of the platform to wave and watch you leave and then it cuts to the garleans and Nero killing that one guy.

Not sure what you'd call that category though. "New Character Airship Run" maybe.

@Neflarion We're still waiting on an actual full game leaderboard (lvl 1-50 and 1-60 MSQ) apparently 2 people have confirmed to finish it already and i'm doing it somewhere next week.
But to discus your idea, timer should start from the moment you hit confirm on the character select screen, if you do it from when you gain control you risk that people miss time it or something of that nature. and ofcourse we got the loading problems, my new PC loads every area in FF14 extremely fast as to my old PC takes about a minute orso to load areas (more if it's limsa for example)
not sure if livesplit has an automatic loadless timer build in without having to fine tune it.

  NeflarionNeflarion

Well that's fair. But a Full 1-50, 1-60, and 1-70 MSQ run would run into the same issues. Would also have problems with queues for different classes for the various dungeons and trials that need to be run. But that's neither here nor there. What you could do for load times though is just subtract load times from the actual run time. Not sure there is a way to do it automatically, but if load times are removed, it should make it more competitive for older computers and people with slower internet.

Hi, I wanted to inquire about the MSQ speedrun as well. I saw some discussion about it on reddit as well as the Level 1 - 2.0MSQ speedrun, and I wanted to see where things stand.

I have had experience with speedrunning the MSQ, and I am currently thinking about/planning to do a live-streamed attempt at the ARR category. That said, I don't want to go through with it if I'm not informed ahead of time regarding the particulars.

I saw on the FFXIV listing that there are apparently active categories for ARR and HW. If I were to run the ARR category, I would need to start from character creation, continue to the end of "Before the Dawn", and could not use any assistance from delivery moogle, FC/FC buffs, and would not be able to premake any parties for group content. I also understand that using the 'Road to 60' buff is an allowed option. So long as there aren't any developments since then that I am unaware of, I'd be willing to make a live attempt at this, but I want to know that it would be accepted if I were to do this fully with record. There are still no runs uploaded (and I know the one run I've seen stopped at 2.0 which is probably the reason) but I'd like to make sure the run COULD get uploaded at this time.

Additionally, any new details that could be shared would be appreciated, especially regarding timing and restrictions. I want to make this happen, and I have plenty of opportunity to do it sooner rather than later, so any guidance is greatly appreciated.

I kinda feel like ARR%, HW%, and SB% are good categories for whole game, and make each DLC self-contained. So, if you're doing Stormblood% (when it's finished, anyway), you can use RDM and SAM whenever you get them to help routing the ARR patch 100, but otherwise nah. That's...honestly like the only time I can think of DLC content being available before accessing the expack itself.

I think that the Road to 60 buff should remain its own separate category, as imho should segmented and marathon runs. The reason I say that is that doing the run segmented opens the door for IRL time abuse like making sure to segment it in such a way that each segment gets access to daily roulettes and weekly challenge log for ease of leveling while marathon you wouldn't get that. Or we could just disallow picking up the challenge log (since you can't willingly only do it once per week segmented, it sorta happens whether you want it to or not) and only allow roulettes to be done every 24 hours of clocked game time, though that would involve using real time and not in-game time.

In order to allow for online content only like dungeons and trials, we could also implement timer stops from the time someone queues until the time they kill the final boss of the instance which would open the door I feel like for DPS classes to step in (since right now it really seems like the speedrun is green plate or blue plate exclusive atm), though idk if people want to micromanage speedrunning that badly.

Just some thoughts.

  kazarienkazarien

Oh and then the thing with segmented runs would also be accrual of rest which wouldn't happen much if at all during a marathon run, so you'd have to make sure to end your segments outside of a sanctuary in which your character would accrue rest.

Agh and another problem with ARR% running all the way to patch 2.55 is the increased level cap from having HW installed unless we're going to say that the only way to compete in ARR% is not to have HW installed and the only way to compete in HW% is not to have Stormblood installed, etc. etc. I'm not sure to what degree we'd care about that though because as far as I'm aware, unless you have access to expack locked gear (which you don't since you can't trade or use marketboard or moogle mail at all), it won't affect combat ability all that much, plus you don't actually GET abilities from future expacks unless you've completed the MSQ that unlocks it (and in the case of everything but the aforementioned likely disallowed DLC classes, the respective class quests).

So maybe my second point is sort of a nonissue in hindsight.

Just a Question/Sugestion:
Fates Speed runs:
in the gold saucer there is a event caled: Leap Of fate, its a platforming Jumping thing that has a fate timer>
it start with 10:00 and counts down. pepole have gotten time scores of 9:00 and there is not offical record place for this, i was wondering if this is the rigth place for us Leap Of Fate speedrunners to post times.
problems with it "metals" are random and there are 10 versons of the map.
to get good times you need good RNG, and spped.
so i was hopeing for a Any% for any "metals caought" and a Full% for geting 6Broze,, 3Silver, and 1 gold Meatle.
anyway just wanted to post here to see what others though. i have a link to a redit from from 2 mounts ago.

@ZlinaDoom I am guessing there isn't a category for Gates right now, but there easily could be if you do post some times and drum up activity. I am, of course, speaking for myself and not the mods, but it sounds like a fantastic addition to this game's speedrun options.

@kazarien I can see how the uncapped level-up could be a bit of a problem, with the issue being that it isn't really possible to turn off. The raw attribute points are still awarded, and you're granted other benefits such as aggro immunity to enemies a few levels higher than people capped at 50, but I don't know if it makes a difference just yet. I can certainly keep it in mind when I attempt a run that goes past level 50.

On the other hand, regarding roulettes and such, I agree that abuse of daily/weekly roulettes are a thing, but I'm unsure how often segmented runs happen nowadays. It seems like they have become a LOT less popular, but that is probably just because games are getting shorter. This is a long run, so I wouldn't be surprised if it came to that. I would agree that abusing the roulettes would ruin segmented runs, but that sort of thing can be done in marathons as well by timing your character creation a little before the reset. So I think that daily/weekly content is fair game for a speedrun, so long as they are only used one time each in the run, regardless of whether it is segmented or single-segment. Then it simply cannot be abused and would ultimately fall within the confines of (one use guaranteed for anyone who creates a character, regardless of what time or day.)

  kazarienkazarien

The issue is that you can't not do the challenge log once you pick it up. The moment you do three dungeon roulettes of any kind or five dungeons or X number of FATEs or X number of Leves, you'd get a bonus. In a marathon setting, you wouldn't get that but maybe once, but in a segmented one you could just only play on Tuesdays after reset for a week, which would add maybe 2-3 hours to your run but give you access to your roulettes/challenge log.

Also, I wanted to pitch the notion of having a DPS% on each of the runs too since queue times are being measured. I feel like those are going to end up really needing a category of their own.

  NeflarionNeflarion

As far as segmented runs are concerned. There is a simple solution. No roulettes. Unless the goal is to reach a certain level, not a certain point in the game quickly, there is no need for the roulettes.

As for the level cap, I know on Steam you have a key for ARR/HW and a key for Stormblood. I don't know if you can go beyond 60 if you don't have Stormblood. If you can't that that gives a level cap for at least the HW runs.

Hi, I'm new here but I was wondering if it's possible to add a category for the fast climb on Kugane Tower?

  Sir_VGSir_VG

We need the BLU Carnivale in the list. It's perfect for speedruns. Clear timer at the end too. And there's some absolutely insane strats for fast clears.

DelnDeln and awsmPhilawsmPhil like this.
  DelnDeln

all of them should be in the list now

Awesome. Thank you!

Time to encode and upload some runs.

has anyone suggested that the categories be reformatted in this structure (outside of the MSQ category)?

Solo - Synced
Solo - Unsynced
Coop - Synced
Coop - Unsynced

Unsynced would mean that the minimum item level box isn't checked.
Synced would mean that the minimum item level box IS checked.
Solo means exactly that. Undersize has to be checked.
Coop means a party (min. of two) is required. Undersize can be checked. The meta would obviously favor a full party.

Duties not eligible to be unsynced and undersized will eventually be able to sooner or later in a future expansion so it would cover future content as far as categories go. I saw someone suggest minimum item levels but i think they only suggested it for solo. I have a friend friends who'd help me achieve some golden runs for sync'd runs. Unsynced co-op runs i would assume will always be able to be broken upon new updates with new gear (so i can understand if this is not considered but the possibility of actually retaining activeness after every patch is there in my opinion).

Currently all records of all dungeon runs in solo are unsynced as far as i'm aware. As far as video proof to show what category is being ran, names are italicized in the party member list and they have a special icon next to the name: https://i.imgur.com/XMGI38A.png if it is synced so you would not even need to show what duty finder settings are checked.

A category for every job in my opinion would give too many categories. IMHO if your going to do a speedrun, your going to end up using a meta job, though the ability to be able to view by job would be great solution to this. This won't matter in co-op synced obviously.

  kazarienkazarien

Regarding MSQ completion. Can we add a "solo-only" category which discounts time accrued during mandatory multiplayer instances? I think this would encourage more people to run it and would open up a lot more routing/variety in runs, since right now it's basically "war/pld or bust".

Edit: A recording would still be needed to ensure accurate timing and obviously this would be RTA only, but with clock stops at the correct times: When the queue is entered and before moving again once the instance has been left.

  NeflarionNeflarion

So you mean like any time spent in queue for and inside the required dungeons is just not counted? I kind of agree with that. Even if you get a fast queue you can end up in a slow/bad group and it take far longer then it realistically should to do the required dungeons through no fault of your own.

  kazarienkazarien

Yeah. Basically in order to level the playing field on plate color AND remove the possibility of harassment/stream sniping/whatever from the community (or speedrunners toward the community, or perceived acts of any toward either party), the following would happen:

The run begins from the moment of character creation and ends from the moment you turn in the quest: "Before the Dawn."
At any point the Duty Finder is used for the FIRST RUN of a MANDATORY MSQ instance of any kind (dungeon or trial), the timer is stopped and the character must remain where the timer stopped from the moment the "join" button is pressed on the dungeon. During the course of the dungeon, the player must continue to follow the rules of the category. You can use food buffs or whatever on EXP while you're in there since leveling isn't really the main focus, though routing in level lock avoidance is still a major part of the category, it'd be tantamount to basically like, using RNG manip in other games to get good results on random spawns and such.

The timer is resumed when the final boss is killed and the player essentially has solo control back of their character, no longer beholden to the group in question. Now: I would like to point out that being kicked from the dungeon at any time during the run would invalidate the run, but I think the rare occasions that happens (if you're not a harassing player and such it wouldn't be very often at all), but that again is basically like getting really bad RNG in other games and other categories. Basically, you'd be able to get more EXP with the timer off by getting kicked out and/or would have to restart the dungeon.

Now, an important part of this is that any time you use the DF for NON-MANDATORY uses (running dungeons multiple times, using your once-per-run allotment of roulettes, doing guildhests for some ungodly reason, whatever the case may be) you have to run the timer the whole time.

This will lead to more competitive, fairer, shorter times in runs that would make the focus less on whether Duty Finder is kind and would future proof the category in a big way. The focus would be more on routing and adequate EXP management and such.

Edit to add content:
Though IMHO a recording of all non-timed Duty Finder instances should be required as though the timer were running to ensure that the run isn't being invalidated in some way during that point.
